I tend to do narrations only with history readings 😬 I’m bad about requiring narrations after every reading, even though you’re probably supposed to. That being said, the literature readings are usually so captivating to my kids that they can’t stop talking about them anyway. So those are still narrations, just less formal!
I have a soon to be 5th grader who is a wonderful reader and possibly above his age, on the other hand I have a soon to be 3rd grader who does really well in most all subjects but is still not reading himself...I also have a new Kindergartner that may sit in with us and a toddler who I wont be doing much with. But i want to teach the 2 older ones together as much as possible, almost everything outside of math if possible. I want to follow the Ambleside Curriculum the best I can but I'm wondering if I should teach 5th grade hoping my 3rd grader follows or Im considering teaching 4th grade to try to meet in the middle. Any suggestions?
I think you could meet in the middle and be fine. You may also want to check out AO groups (www.amblesideonline.org/groups) that structures the curriculum slightly differently to cover more grade levels at the same time.
I think the only difference is the formatting. A book of centuries is potentially a little more rigid (with a century represented on one spread of pages) whereas a timeline might be a larger representation on a horizontal axis, not as confined by space on a page. Again, not an expert, just my opinion!
eBay is another place I check out for books! :)
Oh yes, good idea!
How do you do history and science for multiple children?
Hi there, just wondering whether you have your kids do oral narrations for the AO literature readings, or just treat them as read alouds? Thank you

Did you do year 3 along with TGTB??
I am using TGTB for all years going forward now. I hope to talk about that in a video again soon!

Difference betwen timeline and BOC?
