Thank you everyone for supporting our academy and providing some amazing feedback to make our channel more helpful for you. I would love to know what you think of a new series "Behind the Vocals" as opposed to Vocal Coach Reactions. I feel renaming our series provides a more accurate description of the analysis and breakdown of some amazing artists and songs. Leave a comment down below and let us know what you think!

This isn't just a song. This guy is expressing his internal struggles in the most creative and genius piece.😮

Regarding Ren's "breath support", he did say in an Instagram video a couple of years ago that he is a student of the Wim Hoff Method and can hold his breath for 3.5 minutes.

I am not a singer by any means but I LOVE analysis such as these. I'm not sure if you had ever heard of Ren before this, if you haven't I definitely would recommend moving onto the "Tale of Jenny and screech (Full version). It's 13min + and many consider it the ultimate display of his storytelling and character embodiment skills 🙏

Rodger, you are a singer! It’s simply a tool you need to master with the right guidance :) thank you 🙏🏼

During the beginning falsetto vocalizations, the second grouping he's modulating every other note a semi-tone away from the root. It is that half step modulation that is creating the dynamic much more so than "fry" or compression. Those are present, but again, I'd say the tonal modulation has the most impact. Wonderful reaction, very insightful. All the best

a great analysis i think! one of the things you spotted that not many others have was his vocal clarity. whether you are british, or from even another english speaking country his voice is very clear to make it very straightforward to understand (and even if english is your 2nd or 3rd language) everything he says which i think has helped spread this track around the world in a few short months

I have watched perhaps half a dozen "reactions" by vocal coaches but in all honesty, your breakdown of the song/story, is, without doubt, the best, most educational and enjoyable one I have seen. It may interest you to know that Ren's mother is also a vocal coach/singing teacher and his father sings and plays Stringed instruments in a group that performs 12th and 13th century music.

Ren has so many wonderful songs. You should check them out on your own if not on your channel.

From the thumbnail of your video I always thought it was something else, not sure why. Finally checked it out and glad I did. Great reaction.

Having just discovered this song by Ren, I've gone down a rabbit hole of react videos. It's interesting to see the analysis by different professions. Everything from musicians, psychologists and teachers. Your technical overview of this was one of the highlights in the sea of videos covering this.

HI Tina! Wecome back to reaction/analysis!

I didn't see anyone say it but I think it must be explained that this whole video was shot and recorded live in one take as a lot of his videos are. I enjoyed your reaction. Thanks!

As I understand it, he did four takes and picked this as the best one. Talk about stamina.

@Kevin Mauch That's what I understand as well. 4 takes, and that was the 4th. Amazing!

Loved the analysis but for an academy of music you could have had the mic and background beat coming through both channels lol. No hate just something to look out for. Subbed

0:22 Yes, there’s a difference between an analysis and a reaction. Only an expert should quality for analyzing, whilst anyone may have a reaction. Yet, only an expert could do either.

Great reaction but “Hi Ren” might not be the best subject for vocal analysis considering it’s more of a performance piece, rather than a song. The vocals take a back seat to the message and visuals, rightfully so. Some fantastic songs that will give you a much better idea of Ren’s capabilities as a singer are his duets with Chinchilla “How To Be Me” and “Chalk Outlines”, or his songs “Heretic” or “Diazepam”.
Another artist I’d love to see your reaction, breakdown and vocal analysis of is singer Ethel Cain. It’s a shame that the world is missing out on her beautiful voice but I believe she will make it big very soon. Please check out her songs “Crush (stripped)” or “American Teenager”

Good analysis but it REALLY bothers me when reactors censor certain words (I’ve watch probably 100 reactions of this and thankfully this is only the third time I’ve seen someone do it). I think maybe reactors that don’t want that kind of stuff on their channel should maybe just skip those songs, instead of altering the original words of the artist… imo

Playing music in the background while you talk is very distracting. There is no need for it.

Literally paused at the worst time possible throughout the entire song, completely lost the context of the song....not hate just saying
