    There were 146 cars in this train, just three cars more than the intermodal train hauled by 3985 in 1990. If you include 4014's own train (minus the water tenders and 4015), that means 4014 moved a total of 153 cars. What a historical moment this was! Hopefully 4014 gets a chance to haul an even longer train in the future.

    It's obvious that this train is too long and under-powered. One of only two locos dies from poor maintenance and the whole train stalls. It was sheer luck that steam locomotive 4014 was returning on that track and volunteered to push this messy mistake over the hill.

    When 4264 got back to the yard, he was most furious.
    There, telling stories to the diesels. Was 4014. “And he had Bailed out on his train! So I had to come help them all the way up! 153 rail cars isn’t that difficult”. The engines in the yard we’re having themselves a wonderful time. Except 4246.
    He was most annoyed, “ I come all the way back here, just to find you morons with an uninvited guest!? And I thought I’ve been embarrassed enough today!” 4246 then rushed into his shed, but not before a loud cough and spluttering noise was heard by all the engines.

    The train stalled? Soooo, the engines basically did the the train equivalent of flopping on the floor and throwing a toddler tantrum, refusing to move! Then 4014, their great, great, great grand dad had to come give em a nice kick in the ass and force them to move.

    Even if most of those were empties, it seemed a rather raggedy assortment of empties, that length of train would never have just 2 engines where I live (CN and CP territory). They always seem to run 3 or 4, 2 or 3 on the head, one in the middle, and sometimes one farther back, I saw a cut of 3 rusty gondolas, looked like a scrapyard run, whizzing by on the mainline today with 2 engines on it. Hauling nephelene syenite from the mine just east of here I think they run 4 or 5 engines on a short little train 20-30 hopper cars.

    • @benscamihorn8065
      @benscamihorn8065 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They did use diesel 4015 once or twice when first starting as Bigboy was slipping the front engine. However, it is for a VERY short time. Like 30 seconds to a minute or two max. In some other videos you can hear it throttle up, and then shortly after throttle back down.

    • @fryloc359
      @fryloc359 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      4015 is there to provide power to the coaches and communications to dispatch. I think 4014 has been refitted with comms anyway.

    • @benscamihorn8065
      @benscamihorn8065 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@fryloc359 it is also there for dynamic braking as well. When they were just starting to push the freight train when the front engine kept slipping you can hear it throttle up to work briefly then when the front engine stopped slipping on 4014 it throttles back down. Ed has even said before that 4015 is there for if they need it in an emergency, for dynamic braking, and for PTC as the controller in 4014 uses 4015's and piggybacks off of it. There are normally 1-2 generator cars in the consist as well. Depending on the video you can see and hear them as they go by.

    • @844SteamFan
      @844SteamFan  11 หลายเดือนก่อน
