Clarens Free State Day Hike Weekend Adventure

Ababili Hiking adventures took us to visit Golden Gate Highlands National Park to do a day hike which is about 4.5 hours from Johannesburg. We slept over at a beautiful farmstay lodge called the fat Mulberry which even had electric blankets. The next day we hiked at Meiringskloof and then we went wine and cheese tasting at Bald Ibis wine sales and restaurant to taste the mile high vinyards collection. We had delicious pizza for lunch and then we went to the charming village of Clarens for gift shopping and dinner at Roter Hahn restaurant. The next day we also had a delicious traditional afrikaans breakfast at Kooperasie restaurant and then we made the journey back home.
Disclaimer - I chickened out of the hanging chain ladder but well done to those who did it! Also not all the pictures were taken by me. Thanks to my fellow hikers who contributed videos and images.

This tour looks like great value for money.
The accommodation looks quite luxurious and cozy at the same time.
The scenery is exceptional, especially the mountain scenes. There is such a variety of things to do and out of the ordinary places to visit and even shop. Very unusual to find wine tasting/making in the Free State.
One can see why so many people have chosen Clarens as a retirement destination.

Yes the scenery was breathtaking and we certainly got excellent value on this tour. It exceeded my expectations. Clarens seems to be doing very well and those views would make it a wonderful place to retire to.
