Hay Rick and and of course the photographer very well....I love your channel, have bought a Nuffilfid universal 1955 model hehe,, greetings from the cold Nor. Norway ;-)
Hi, very good video that helped me immensely when I replaced the half shaft seals in my Universal four Nuffield, i took the half axle off because the washer between the final drive cog and the bearing had broken into pieces and there was extreme end float of the half shaft, made a new thick washer and its all back together again with just zero end float
Hello Rick, I have to say how helpful this video has been to me whilst sorting out my leaking half shafts. However, I believe I heard a yawn from the camera operator during the film. I think it's time you swapped places and let Mary do some tractoring!! Regards Andrew (nice to see you at Carrington)
I have been round nuffield tractors for 55+ years, I know every nut bold and washer and have replaced more than one halfshaft was advised bye nuffield machanic all ways replace bearings with new ones. as for copper slip just a little round the axle just were the bearing sits.I drive a large grimme varitron harvester and replace every bearing on the multi sets 32 bearings in all, whether they need replacing or not as like a halfshaft not a quick job if you need to do it fast.
Hi Rick have a Leyland 253 with a leaking half-shaft will the procedure be the same on this small tractor and where can I purchase a suitable seal kit nothing turns up on ebay thanks for the very informative video's on the nuffield..also have a 460
Hi Rick and apprentice . Why would a Nuffield 4/65 get so hot it feels like it will burn your skin , after a couple of hours work . I have a 344 ,do exactly the same work and the gearbox on the 344 is only warm to touch . Is this an oil issue or something more ? Both gearboxes have the same part numbers and the casting dates are 18 months apart . Any ideas ????? Thanks in advance . Johno .
Hi. Many thanks for all the very informative nuffield videos! I am restoring a nuffield universal 3. Do you know if the mudguards for the universal 3 are the same as for the 10/42 10/60 3/42 4/60 and 4DM. I am looking at part numbers NT5594/NT5595. Many thanks in advance for any info 👍😁
The three cylinder wings are smaller than the four cylinder wings and are like hens teeth to find, not what you wanted to hear. They are the same as 3/43 & 10/42 wings
@@montegoson Many thanks for the prompt reply! I had a feeling that was the case, but some sellers are listing the same mudguards for all the models I noted above... Any idea who would stock the universal 3 wings? New or second hand. Thanks again! Your videos are invaluable.
Hi ric I'm doing the same seal on a Layland 270 it is the same as this Nuffield where I have to take off the hydraulic casting but I'm having trouble removing the casting and was wondering how you get it off I have removed all bolts and pto shaft but something it still holding the casting in at the bottom do you have any ideas Thanks
No idea mate, there are 4 bolts along the bottom row. There is no need to remove the pto shaft first though but I cant see any problems from doing so. Do you need one of the 8 sided sockets i have made?
montegoson I have undone the four bolts on the bottom but there seams to be something still holding it at the bottom so the casting is leaning and open at the top but cannot understand want is holding it I have had pry bars behind it and still no good where are the four bolts at the bottom as I only found 2 Cheers
Hello i have a 344 Leyland and just wondering what is the correct position of the lever for raising your top links so when you're mower is up that the pump isn't always running
I've made a homemade press using two pieces of square plate, a bottle jack and some chunky threaded rod in anticipation of tackling my leaky axles. I just had a thought that I might not have made it big enough to get the carriers in between the rods when I come to press the seals in! Did you put felt seals in between the seals? Thanks.
Ok, I will measure it up for you tomorrow. The felt seal goes in first with the two lip seals on top. You will see when you take it apart. I sell the spanners that fit the 8 sided nut if you are in the UK
Thanks ric you're a gent. I should be ok with the nuts as I have a socket made from the parts you supplied. Also, a nice local chap used to be workshop manager at a now defunct Nuffield dealer and he has the original bearing puller, very convenient!
Has he ever used copper slip,if not he would get on better removing bearings ect, he should no better, and all so do not fit old bearing replace with new one, and when you fit new bearing heat it up a little in oil it will fit with ease,
Good Video series. A true service to humanity. . Thanks

Hi Iv got Nuffield universal and the clutch pressure plate we are struggling to get remove it. Any suggestions ?
Dual clutch or single? Have you removed the pressure plate and just have the friction plate rusted to the flywheel?

I would guess a fault with the valve block causing the hydraulic pump to blow off constantly is heating the oil.

@@drsocrates3 They are not available new you just have to watch the internet for sales. Some people use International or Ford small wings
@@montegoson Thanks for this. I will keep searching! If we had to opt for an International / Ford guard which model would be the closest match?
@@drsocrates3 I think its Inty B250 or Ford 3000
great work,,did you reuse the old,, bearing
singtracks yes they were in good order

Not sure how to add a picture here. can you email me about this. therickyard@aol.com
Diff lock?
It locks the wheels together for additional traction.
Can it be retro fitted to an older tractor without differential lock?
please do you remember the size of the large nuts on the half shafts? Thank you
Thanks!
But i do have some laser cut tools to fit!
+montegoson really? Sockets? Where from, and how much please.
+montegoson I've emailed you, please look out for it. Thank you. Andrew

Hello ric, do you know the diameter of the seal carrier please.
Andrew Moore not sure what you want to know. or do you want to know the seal sizes? I have some seal carriers if you have broken one!
