    Ok… we’re not starting until next year but you really sold me on the DIY section because that is 100% what I keep coming back to so I love that you provided information how to use your curriculum with that in mind!

      As a second generation homeschooler I am very familiar with the fact that most homeschool moms do not strictly follow their curriculum as-is. We all make the necessary adaptions that suit our family and particular student(s). If your educational philosophy is rooted in Truth, there is so much freedom in the application!

    Thank you for putting this on TH-cam! I wanted to watch this after your interview with Autumn but don’t have Instagram. We are two years off from formal schooling and I am practicing so much restraint in not purchasing this curriculum before we need it. However, I am so excited to revisit this in a few years as it looks excellent!

      Aw you are in precious years indeed! I plan to write a resource for the pre-school years soon, so that will be right up your ally!

      That sounds wonderful!! I have three children (1 month, 2.5 years, and 4 years as of next week), so we will still be in these preschool years for quite a while.

    This is encompassing so much of what I’m wanting in my homeschool! Like many other moms, I am making my own DIY curriculum this year using many resources.
    Will you be sharing an example of a random week in the curriculum? I know that would definitely help me! 😊

    • @TheWonderYearsPodcast
      @TheWonderYearsPodcast  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is wonderful to hear, Emily! There are no weekly lesson plans, only 10-week term lesson plans that you plug into your personal timetable. I have added sample pages of how the lesson plans are formatted in the shop: www.thechildrenstradition.com/shop/p/the-childrens-tradition-beta-version-digital-download

    How long is an average day for 1st year? I know CM does short lessons, does this follow the same idea? It’s so beautiful!

    • @TheWonderYearsPodcast
      @TheWonderYearsPodcast  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am so glad you think so! We do follow short lessons, and I would say the average day, when you include everything from the Benediction Table, gymnastics, and lessons, comes out to under 3 hours.

    I love this. Does it provide for things like handwriting, religion/catechism, spelling, geography? I see most of that missing. But I suspect it has to do with a different philosophy of education. I guess what I’m asking is can you explain how this philosophy accounts for teaching these things. Do they come naturally? Or are there studies to go alongside these books that would teach these things in round about ways?

    • @TheWonderYearsPodcast
      @TheWonderYearsPodcast  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ashleethomsen6735 Hi there! We do cursive for handwriting (it is called copywork in the curriculum). Spelling is taught through dictation exercises beginning in 4th grade, before that we focus on copywork and oral narrations. In my experience, my oldest (who is going into 4th) can already spell at a 3rd grade level without having done formal spelling because she has indeed absorbed it naturally through her reading, copywork, and asking me for help in informal situations like writing cards, making lists, etc. We use Elementary Geography by Charlotte Mason, but geography is certainly integrated into many of the books we read as well. I address general Christian education of prayer, singing the Psalms, and Scripture memorization. Beyond that, I direct families to their particular Christian tradition for catechism. Let me know if you have any more questions!

    Ok I just watched your previous video. What will you be transitioning to after 5th/6th grade? I have a 6th grader this year and a 4th grader. Not sure if it’s too late for us to use this or if you have any suggestions for older grades.

    • @TheWonderYearsPodcast
      @TheWonderYearsPodcast  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AA-gu4mw 4th-6th can be easily looped in this curriculum, so probably your students could do a lot of the books together, with the 6th grader needing to have more written narrations and composition added. Beyond that, I do plan to write an article on this, but the short answer is use TCT to inform your philosophy, make book selections from the Adolescent portion of Senior's 1,000 Good Books list, and add in a composition curriculum. Personally I am drawn to following the Progymnasmata (the Scholé Sisters have a class on this). How much you use TCT for your older students will also depend on their previous exposure to the Good Books. I am working on a list to share of which books from Nursery and School Years are "must-reads" for those who are on-boarding to TCT in older grades. So their first year might begin with reading books like the Greek myths, Grimm's Fairy Tales, Pinocchio, etc. to build up their literary foundation. Because they are older, they would read them at a much faster pace than younger students, so they could easily "make up" lost ground. Not that I want anyone to think of it as lost ground though. In a sense, no one is "behind" in this curriculum, we just go into it wherever we are and pick up the next book. It is very freeing from that perspective!

      @@TheWonderYearsPodcast thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! I am going to be looking into everything you’ve shared. I’ve already have been digging into your info a little more and see you’re in Cali! I live in northern Cali near Sacramento and so wish I had a community like this near by. Anyway thanks again for everything you’re doing. This approach to education has refreshed my spirit in a way. 🐻🐻If you are able to get an Epson Ecotank Duplex printer (such as from Costco where they can run as low as $199) then the printing is so much cheaper. I looked at reviews from the Robinson Curriculum for printers they recommended since you have to print a couple hundred books with that curriculum and they claimed that one book would cost about 60c in ink with one of these printers. I went ahead and bought one and have not been disappointed at all. It has been the biggest blessing. Printing The Children's Tradition's 175 pages was no problem at all. The ink will last a couple years even with frequent printing. 🐻🐻
