I have just recently stumbled upon Amanda and TCT and decided to buy it. It sounds like I have a lot to learn myself which will be exciting to do right along with the kiddos. My questions- do y’all purchase all the books on the lists? I’m finding that to be the most stressful part. Also, time wise, how do you read for 2.5 hours with your kids a day just for school hours, not including bedtime reading?
What a fantastic interview! I am considering adding it to our year because I'm undecided on literature picks and I also love the idea of a long-term plan so I can rest assured that the good books won't be missed - there's a plan to get them!
I am really trying to discern, Ambleside Online or this. Any wisdom? I read the article that she wrote that you sent me. it was great and very helpful!
I was all set to do Ambleside until I found this and I’m so glad I switched. Once I started looking at AO books I realized so many of them are asking the children to analyze ideas about things they have yet to learn/love. They also ask them to assimilate culture ideas while making connections for them. I’m thinking specifically the Foster books for an example. TCT gives the mother a philosophy that she can then expound upon into making book choices and setting the atmosphere for her children. It’s also gentle but very robust while keeping the family together as much as possible or desired. I will be keeping the AO free read books as supplement because they tend to be more classical in nature, aligning with TCT. I hope that helps in some way! Your desire to raise your family in the instruction of the Lord will bless regardless of your final decision! 💜
It's interesting that you said that about the Foster books, I enjoyed prereading them but my children weren't fans at all, they found the books confusing with the jumping around and all of the characters.
@LionWolverine exactly! I find that with a lot of the AO core books. The free reads are fantastic but it seems the core books are definitely at a higher analytical level than appropriate for our kiddos.
I loved this interview! Thank you both! One question I had for you was if you plan to continue to use our island story (I am around ch 30) Would you just read that and then go through other biographies even if they don't line up in that history?
I would continue if you’d like or just move to biographies. I’m still undecided to be honest. But we will do biographies recommended for sure, regardless of time period. I’m so glad it was helpful to you! Thanks for being here!
How time consuming did you find it to alter the curriculum? My children are nearly 13, 11, 10, 6 and 3. We've always used CM curriculum and have read many of the books on Seniors lower forms list, so I would need to adapt for my older three. Would y5 be enough for my 11 yo? And I'd have to craft something for my 13 yo, as Amanda said. I love the idea of TCT as AO didn't quite fit our family, but my budget (both time and financially) is small!
It actually didn’t take much time because I can group a lot of my family together! We’ve read many as a family so I am just moving down on the list through the years. She does include Y6 and Y7 in the Senior booklist so that should definitely help you. Most are also free online too.
@@RevivalAcres Thank you! Do you mind if I ask how old your y6 would be? How difficult did you find it to arrange y6 yourself? (We're coming from CMEC so I'm used to laying out our own timetable already)
@LionWolverine you’re welcome! My Y6 is 11 years old. She is actually doing more Y5 work since she hasn’t read many of those. We used CMEC too. I’m almost done our timetable, but I may try looping this year. Still undecided, but book choices have been so easy with TCT.
Amanda is a delight! I love learning from her.
Agreed 🥰
What a blessing to have others share their wisdom! Thank you, ladies!
Thank YOU for being here friend!! ❤️☀️
I recently got TCT and it is fantastic!! 🎉
I feel the same 👏
I’ve been patiently awaiting your return, and then you bring Amanda and TCT. Truly, worth the wait. Thank you so much. 🙏🏼

@@RevivalAcres Does TCT set the recommended biographies/historical fiction reads for each grade/year?
@@mariajscheller1284 yes!

What history spine do y'all recommend?
TCT does not recommend a history spine, but rather historical novels.
