Amazon has the Heritage back in stock. I bought one this time around and wow am I happy I did! It's very similar in blade feel to my 1957 Gillette Tech Ball End. Although the Ball End Tech is slightly heavier. But yeah I'm very happy with it. I also agree with you Gillette should have branding on the top cap like they used to do with the Tech razors.
I found the king c Gillette on a black Friday deal on amazon yesterday for 9.89... Bruh! Bought it as my first safety razor and I don't think that you can go wrong at this price. If I like the whole safety razor experience, I will treat myself to a muhler r89 later on.
The reason the baseplate rattles without a blade is because they goofed on how they threaded the handle so the handle cannot tighten the razor all the way. It means the blade doesn't get clamped tightly enough. That may be why they are out of stock everywhere, I think they had a lot of returns because of the way the handle cannot tighten the razor fully.
It would be nice to see an Old vs New comparison with a 100 year old brass & nickel Gillette Old Type Razor versus the Zamack & chrome King C. Gillette or the Heritage.

The Heritage is definitely much more aggressive and efficient. This safety razor is outstanding. Frankly, I didn't expect it would be so excellent. Originally, I bought the Gillette Heritage just as a cheap traveling razor, expecting it would be too mild and little inefficient; but I was completely wrong. Even though this razor is quite gentle, it's very, very efficient. I achieved a perfect BBS result in a standard three-pass shave. As an experienced user of expensive safety razors on the aggressive side, I'm really surprised how excellent even a cheap razor like this one can be. In short, I'm astonished.

One reason why I won't buy a King C Gillette is because it's just a rebranded Chinese razor. Wal-Mart has the King C Gillette under a different name. The Gillette Heritage on the other hand has a US made handle and a German sourced head which is made by Muhle. So Gillette put more effort into the Heritage.
The King C head is the exact same as the Muhle R89 as well. And as soon as you unpack it there is a paper where the blade will sit, and all the writings on it are german as well. I have no info about the handle.
@@szilagyi0613 I have an R89 and the King C head looks more like a Merkur head. The bottom plate looks nothing like an R89 head. The Gillette Heritage shaves just like my R89. The King C I'll probably pickup when it's on sale.
