  • Skip / DX is when you are able to talk with far off stations hundreds or thousands of miles away when conditions are right

    When I was in my early twenties I had a CB station, I called it Oscar November because I am from Belgium. In those years (+/- 1973) the propagation was very good and I spoke to almost all States of America.
    I also visited someone in New York and Pennsylvania whom I had met on the CB radio. I even visited two English CB radio's in South Africa who lived in Johannesburg.
    I spoke to someone in Brazil who was sailing on the Amazon River 🙂
    I spoke with the Netherlands Antilles, with Australia, South Africa, so many different countries outside Europe. Unfortunately, after all these years I lost the QSL cards I received 😞
    CB is a wonderful hobby for whom real HAM radio is not possible.

    Can you spread the word in DX community not to flood ch19 , as a trucker we use that channel ( especially in wintertime to warn eachother of hazzards) some overpowered home stations just for / looking for skip overpower the truck CB's so we can't warn eachother, ( love the hobby but channel 19 is so flooded, it's to the point I gotta turn it off.

      Back in the 1970's & early 80's we used Channel 19 as the am call channel. I never go on that channel anymore because it is a train wreck with noise when skip comes in. When the skip is gone there is nobody on it at all up this way. Not a lot of people around here in to CB radio where I live on this remote island in the North Pacific. Channel 1 in Canada was the truckers channel

    Hi Joe, I like your style and your station bro. Favor to ask you can you please do a detailed video explaining the free band channels the 40 below and 40 above that you get when you do a extra ch mod. How to tune each frequency without having a frequency counter using the dial on the radio. Which frequencies are popular and when to use lsb or usb on those extra channels. I think a lot of people will find it very helpful including myself which have extra channels but just don't know how to use it exactly. Thank you very much 73. Dynamite Kid 919 NJ

      Thanks for the comment and yes indeed I can do a video like that for sure. Sounds like fun! I have been running the freeband channels since 1980 and when things get to noisy on regular CB radio it is nice to escape it by going below channel 1 or above channel 40. Back in the day they were far more quiet on the free band channels. Cheers & 73's

    You know you like to remind me of days that when I start hearing you skip myself the furthest I've talked away on those things was I guess I was in downtown Seattle and I start talking to somebody out in Honolulu Hawaii that's 2,000 miles away I mean I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe what was going on I mean I'm glad that somebody out in Hawaii heard me. I guess that was during the skip conditions. But here's the thing about FM I don't know if the skip condition will probably cut right through FM but I can tell you this if you had an FM radio that does the CB part? I think what you're going to start seeing is basically a lot of people going from a.m. to FM anyway. Doesn't matter what conditions come in. As a matter of fact I don't know what condition might come into play for that. But not I'm beginning to understand it.

    QSX? Q Signals are for CW Communications not Voice or Phone.Also you are eating that D-104 and it should be about a foot away from your mouth.Yes I know how they work since I have been using them since the 60’s and I currently own 45 of them.If you need to hold it that close then either turn Up your microphone gain on the radio or the bottom of the microphone if it’s an amplified model.It’s a very good microphone for many radios if used properly but it’s not for every radio or environment.They pick up a lot of background noise due to the type of elements used in them.

    • @junglejoecvideogates9705
      @junglejoecvideogates9705  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have always talked close to the mic head on my D-104's just habit. I have been using them since 1977 and still use my original one as well. I have the gain turned way down as well so it doesn't over mod or pick up back ground noise. Q codes are also used on SSB 11 meter band radio and not just for constant wave. The 10 codes people use on AM side of CB radio . I have both amplified and no amplified D-104 mics. My TUG 8 stand puts out decent audio too. Cheers

      Well what I am doing in these videos is talking to dx / skip stations. Which means I am working stations that are very far from me. Normally with a CB radio the talking distance is not so far, maybe 70 miles. However when these skip conditions roll in it makes it possible to talk much farther. It is the radio waves bouncing off of the ionisphere skipping them along to far off locations. Some times it can be a challenge, just depending on conditions. I have been doing it since 1977

    I started with cb when i was 14 or so. Back then it was just AM 4watts, did talk to some people in Miami from my island (Curaçao.) I stayed with the hobby, even got my general license, but for some reason i keept going back to cb. Now i have an RCI2950 going into some amplifiers. Total output is around 2500watts, going into a small dipole only 14ft off the ground, held up by some dinky trees by the shack. Today i reached Arizona, Ontario, Iowa, and Ohio. Plus i got a nice rf burn due to the antenna being so close above the shack, that my body absorbs enough rf that then concentrates at the tips of whatever fingers happen to touch a grounded piece of metal, like the antenna tuner i have between the driver amp, and final amp. It was fun today on channel 38.

    • @junglejoecvideogates9705
      @junglejoecvideogates9705  ปีที่แล้ว

      What is skip? Normally CB radio transmissions are "line of site," or considered to be short range. However, there are times when the earth's atmosphere acts as a mirror and will bounce signals to distant locations. Remember your CB signal also goes up as well as out and away from your antenna.
