I have always just used a DC clamp meter and a voltage meter to get real time analysis. I do the math myself. The amm1 and the BHG meter are just fancier and do the math for you. That is a good price on the BHG and I would like to have one. Less than 100 dollars seems like a very fair price. The SMD is imo always had a very inflated price. This is what the market needs. Some competition is always a good thing.
Only problem with that is these devices compensate for correction factor. Usually when you clamp and do the simple math you will read more than you are actually putting out.
Another thought is the BHG meter taps into the vehicle's power supply shared with other devices similar to how headlights dim under heavy bass and the SMD meter has its own battery and doesn't have to share. I wonder if that makes a slight difference? This is the best video of this comparison.
I have one myself, been using it for a few weeks, curious to see how it performs and compares to the other above 2500,3500+ watts. Great content as always!!
I bought one of these when they were preorder and I still need to hook it up. Pretty awesome if you ask me. I love the age of modern technology. Will be interested to see what my JP23v2 is putting out to my SSA Evil 15” sub.
I believe I'm having issues with my BHG Meter. For context I'm running two 1200 watt rms subwoofers and 3000 watt Hifonics amp (around 2400 rms) at 1 ohm. The meter won't start reading until I get around 3/4 of the way on the volume. And then the meter shows around 30 watts with high ohms in the 5 to 7 range. When I crank it to the max unclipped volume then it shows about 500+ watts. Any suggestions? Does it have anything to do with the amp having 4 connections for subwoofer (two + and two -) and the fact only one power wire passes through the transformer? As well as the the "V" wires only being connected to one of the amplifiers output?
I have both smd amm-1 and basshead garage BHG-WM WATTMETER and at higher watts its off like a little over 1,000 watts the smd amm-1 reading higher? I don't understand that
One of the meters could be off my first Amm-1 was kind of wonky then I replaced it with a new one which is the one I used in the video and it has been fine.
Watch hooking the V & C wires up backwards... i smoked my first BHG meter rushing the install at night 🤣 I wonder if I should try the clamp that came with yours mine came with the smaller one. Fun video
What you mean you put the clamp green plug into where the speaker green plug should have been ? I don’t think that was what your problem was because I’ve already mixed them up before and haven’t smoked mine ?
@onesikm3 it didn't literally burn up but after I did that I was reading 4w from an 8k. I ordered another hooked it up correctly and it worked properly
I like the way you tested the different models but I need a comparison at 10000 watts or more because I’m using a 12000 watt amplifier along with a 5000 watt amp and a 3500 watt one just for my subs. I noticed in Parker’s video that the BHG meter was wayyyyy off when it got into the thousands of watts so it would be great to see if you get the same results as he did with that.
Thanks so much. I actually wasn’t aware about it being off At higher wattages that’s why I didn’t even think about that aspect. But I will do a part 2 video at least up to 8k and see how it goes. Also I will run tests like 3 times exact repeats to see how much the meters vary from themselves without touching a thing. Stay tuned!
Would of liked to see the same 1 ohm test done several times to see if all the meters would keep changing total watt numbers or they would of been consistent
I've had it in my car about 2 months now. I really haven't messed w it too much tho tbh. I added a temp probe and taped it to the heat sink of my amp. You think it's the best place to place the probe in your opinion?
This is the very reason why I haven’t gotten one yet myself because I have one 12,000 watt amp one 5000 watt amp and one 3500 watt amp for my bass and a few smaller amps for my mids and highs and I don’t want to buy something that is not going to be accurate for my current setup. Please let me know what you find out when you receive the one that you are waiting on.
@JonesCoWoodworks I will let you know tomorrow. Sorry I'm just seeing this comment. I've had it since about 2 days after my comment but just now getting time to install it. I'll let you know tomorrow man and wow! I want your setup. Lol
@@Clare.1985 thanks for the reply and I look forward to hearing the results. Thanks also for the compliment. It took me a while to acquire everything that I have now but be patient and keep saving up and you’ll get there soon.
@JonesCoWoodworks ok man. I installed it and it is absolutely awesome! I've not figured it all out yet but readings seem very accurate. I'm wired to 1 ohm and after impedance I'm metering a little over 2k at 2.3 ohms after box rise.
I will be doing another video soon with 8-10 k watts. I wasn’t aware at the time of the video that some were saying that on wattage above 3k the accuracy decreases. So stay tuned and we will compare again with more power.
I have one. The only problem is I can only accurately read lower frequencies with it. The higher frequencies are to close together, and I'm not able to detect distortion.
@@HiFiVector I believe it has more to do with the dynamic reading being much lower while on higer power but very close under 1000 watts from what i've seen on other channels. I believe the peak hold numbers are very consistent with the AMM-1.

Would need to be an AC clamp meter
do u do the 40hz test at the volume where gain was set? or a lower vol? to determine watts/box rise
Just got mine in the mail an hour ago. Tried for months on BHG's site with no luck. Then it popped up on Big Jeff so I had to grab it.

Thank you!
Unbeatable for the price.

What the heck is the power factor and the other watt reading?
For $90 I totally agree
Nice product and excellent review 👍🤞
Thank you!
@@HiFiVector yes sir 🤞
I just bought one of the Basshead Garage meters.
Can we compare it with a hard clip at the amp? A lot of bass heads don't understand how clipping can make the power output look insane.
Yea I’ll try and do that sometime soon.
I just bought one because I'm assuming this video will go well
Try to just before clipping & light clipping

Yeah that's a good idea I will try that next time.
What’s the link to the other option to buying this meter
bass garage is constantly out of stock
Link is in video description
The audio edit is messed up 🤷🏻♂️ but great video 😎
Sorry about that first time that ever happened. Dang… oops
Ordered one the 8th of Oct. Still waiting..

That is a good spot, the heat sink will give you a good idea of what the amp is doing.
@HiFiVector ok that's what I figured. Thanks for getting back to me! 🫡
You are very welcome 🙏 thank you so much for watching my channel!

Definitely handy to have
Shhhh don’t tell Tony…😂😂😂
dammit ive had 1 of those in my cart for 2wks!!! now its OOS
The BHG is junk it works at low watts but the higher you get the more it is off.
I’ll do another test at higher wattage this week. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Next test we will see if that’s the case.

It’s because it try’s to power factor correct it which you can’t not really if use va you’ll get accurate reading
Who was that jerk trying to talk over you 😂
lol oops
When both voices lined up and said, "Press and hold again to go into peak mode," it was kind of creepy.
You’ll get a more accurate rating if you place it on an apparent power.

Thanks so much
This is not a reliable comparison. Put the meters together and test the same wire.

i almost turned the video off when you started talking over your self
