I remember back when Katy Freeway had chain link fence separating East / West traffic and Beltway 8 was nothing but a two lane road, Highway 290 ended at Mangum, you could smell coffee on 610 Westbelt (anyone remember the coffee plant across from the NW mall?), we had train tracks and trains running on the Northside of Katy Frwy... and of course the road crews were still working on I-45. This town had done a lot keeping up with the explosive growth.
I used to live in the Memorial Dr./Dairy Ashford area. I used to drive that every day to I-45 north, then up to the Greenspoint Mall area. That was back in the 80's. So much has changed.
My Grandparents lived in an apartment complex off the Eldridge Pkwy exit. I remember that freeway well. The apartments were razed in '84 and is now part of an office complex that house the Halliburton offices.

Great video. I live in Düsseldorf, where we also have many freeways ("Autobahn"). Mostly two lane per direction, larger routes with three. But we have a huge network an no general speed limit. Did you ever drive 150 mph ? I guess on a racing court.
Thanks, and yes the Autobahn is quite a system! However I think you meant 150 kph (as opposed to mph), which translates to about 95 mph (which is still really fast). The fastest speed limit here in Texas is 85 mph, but that's only on a short stretch of road. In professional car races though, cars do exceed 200 mph.
With a ford ghia. But only for 5 kms. 150 is maximum of my recent car. Ford ka. We have a law here to stay as right as possible, so on the left lane you must drive at least 150 kmh.
3:40, to answer your question, KATY FREEWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE KATY FREEWAY IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE KATY FREEWAY IS AWESOME!!!!!!!! Man, it feels good to live in Houston(my home)!
No, you wouldn't. The main lanes of I-10 Katy Freeway are free. The middle two lanes (the ones divided by those plastic sticks in the road) is the Katy Tollway. If you get on that section, you will have to pay a toll unless it is at certain time (something like 6am-11am and 2pm-8pm) and you have 2+ occupants in the car. To pay, you'll need one of the following: HCTRA EZ-Tag NTTA TollTag TxDOT TxTag Metro HotPass and, if I'm not mistaken, Kansas K-Tag At some point, Oklahoma's Pike Pass will be accepted as well. Despite what the video says, pricing is based on time of day. The peak amount you'll pay (somewhere near $7 for the entire length as of 2018) is during peak rush hour.
@Windex from the 1990s, Thats not true Houston is bigger than LA by land.I’m not counting both metropolitan areas. LA does have more people living in the city than Houston. Houston is still growing and they will pass Chicago in becoming the 3rd largest city in the nation right behind LA.

No one cares which one is largest. Houston proper is bigger than dallas but Dallas metroplex is larger than greater houston so they both have "biggest" titles.
+Daniel Tinoco: Dallas, in itself, is small compared to Houston (1.318 million in Dallas versus 2.303 million in Houston). Now, if you're talking metroplexes, Houston is smaller than the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex (which consist of two cities: Dallas and Fort Worth) with 6.3 million people versus 7.1 million people.

Everything is bigger in Texas I love stuff like this great video
I am so glad I no longer have to make that long drive from the city to Katy anymore. Live in the city now and the time saving is worth it.
I used to live in the Memorial Dr./Dairy Ashford area. I used to drive that every day to I-45 north, then up to the Greenspoint Mall area. That was back in the 80's. So much has changed.
Sooo miss my hometown. Ill be back hopefully soon.
Use to drive this when I lived down there and had to drive to the Whse to restock my van when I worked for DirecTv. Goodman Network.
My Grandparents lived in an apartment complex off the Eldridge Pkwy exit. I remember that freeway well. The apartments were razed in '84 and is now part of an office complex that house the Halliburton offices.
Schön angenehm chilliges Video, Daumen hoch ^^
i drove though this. made me cry. however money to be made. advanced in freeway engineering
I-10, I-69, and US-59 are the top two best freeways
That's me on the Left lane 5:28
That yellow car?
if im not mistaken the katy freeway is the widest freeway in the world. then again texas has got a rep for big structures.
It's one of the widest, but China has even wider freeways.
CascadianPatriot no houston has

Beautiful.
Anyone in 2019? Great video btw!
Marko Pajovic me
It’s helpful to post the distance and travel time. Using the length of the video we can compute the effective average speed shown by the video.

240kmh = 150 mph

Near citiex of course the local speed limit is 100 or 120 kmh. But on three lane autobahns and in the countryside you can go faster.
+Culmen222 i can see someone going 240kph down the countryside and BOOM hits a flock of sheep and dies instantly.
Epic video !
The Katy Freeway even though i haven't been on the freeway before
I know Houston has a bigger skyline but sometimes like at 1:18 it really feels like youre in Dallas about to go north on 75...haha. kinda similar:)
***** Real mature, dude.

omg nobody gives 2 fucks
-_-AwesomeBlues then why are you here 😑
So, If I lived in Katy and worked in Houston, Would I have to pay tolls everyday that I drive into Houston?
no, you only pay toll if you have an EZ tag and if there is too much traffic and want to get to your destination faster.
Mark Poulsen no only if you get on the left two lanes aka the median which is I-10 toll the other lanes are free
Get EZ tag
Nop

2:38 Did that truck nearly merge into you?
+Trellux Looks that way, you could see the driver jerk to the left as well in response
I like the Katy freeway
love the song. who is it. ?
drove through. from Colorado
Kinda reminds me of the 281 freeway in San Antonio and just as high
Yikes, it's not so great during rush hour though. Lol. Great video!
Poor Houston, damage cleanup from the hurricane is going to be terrible.
Texans are strong people, they will recover from this.
UnitedRoads It was actually a tropical storm when it reached Houston.
Houston Strong 🤷♂️
U know that houston is the biggest citie of texas!
Yeah, but Dallas-Fort Worth (where I live) is the biggest metro. That said, Houston has, without a doubt IMO, the superior freeways.
Ohh you live in Dallas I dont live there too cold for me
Houston's temperatures are not that cold
Wow! (:
InterstateJD Houston has been having floods and loads of rain this week......wonder why
+Abner Yanes HAARP and chemtrails my friend.

Did that truck really hit InterstateJD's car?
I saw the truck suddenly move left and the fimer's car goes off the lane
old people just can't seem to get out of the left lane
Almost crashed 1:39
The Katy freeway is obviously better
Los Angeles has wider and bigger freeways with more traffic and LA is bigger than Houston. You can fit 4 Houstons in LA
+225BRwhodat That's all false. And the Katy Freeway is the widest in the world.
wow, but LA is bigger than Houston in land and population size though ChromeAmazing
225BRwhodat Not in size, but in population yes.
+Zentro 😎

Dallas should be the number one largest city in Texas
