  • A lot of people think that since 2021, hotrod prices have doubled or tripled and they would be right for the majority of cases, easy chassis to work on with minimal work are going for a premium and will sadly never go back down, but all hope is not lost.

    Cheap Hot Rodding is still very affordable in 2023, You just have to think outside the box of what to start with now. 2 years ago I went to look at a 67 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible the guy wanted $3500 for with no motor or trans and was not budging on the cost, Sitting beside it was a 73 Buick Regal, so $1300 and pulling out the air tank to inflate the tires later I was DRIVING a 73 Buick Regal home, 6 months and $1800 later I have a cool ass daily driver that is still good enough to take to cruise nights and cars and coffee's and have fun with on the weekend. I've got $400 less into Regal than he wanted the for the "cooler" car without an engine and trans......

    Good work ain't cheap , and cheap work ain't good . LoL You get what u paid for nice build and words of wisdom . I agree about CaseysCustoms love his channel too . Sometimes u gotta work with what ya got unless you got the bucks otherwise .

    Lol, I paid $80 USD for a sheet of 18g satin finish 4x8 steel sheet...I assume you're in Canada...

    If you're resourceful, have some basic welding skills and an idea in mind anything is possible. And it will save you a ton. The satisfaction in knowing you done everything yourself is the best thing.

      I like to say that rust fears me and it checks under its bed at night to make sure I am not there.. because I have a sawzall and a mig welder.

    I like rusty hoods, doors, and trucks/vans for flat metal, the factory curves in body panels can be used on other vehicles. I get all kinds of creative because I like Pontiac and I have a 67 Cougar. There's not nearly as much available for some of my cars like the 65 GTO and Cougar as there is for other cars, even the 69 and 70 GTOs I have. Everything I do is low buck, even when I spend a lot on it, like my 68 LeMans. Finding a running Pontiac V8 is nearly impossible these days, but they are cheap enough to rebuild if you aren't buying parts from the local stores and aren't spending cash on things you don't need... like shiny stuff. The factory parts can make a lot of power and everything in a Pontiac engine is mix and match interchangeable.
    There is a 72 Ventura two door in my yard, its UUUUGGLY!! A six cylinder auto with manual everything else, so its a perfect swap candidate. I traded some Chevelle bucket seats I had zero money in for it back in the 90s. I will not be touching the body at all, will probably recover the factory bench seat, the underside will get sandblasted and painted because I am spoiled from working on the 65 GTO and 70 Cuda. They are my 'nice' cars. I have an untouched 400 short block I got for free, a set of $200 heads that will give it actual 10.5:1 compression to run my home made E100 or E85, and a $150 set of ceramic coated headers. The wheels are rusty 15" ET lookalikes to Cragar SS wheels, heavy but perfect amount of rust and flaking chrome. The plan is to make some caltrac knock offs using stuff around here so I can make it hook on the cheapest 255 wide tire I can find. Should be a low 12 second car for less than $1000, just using parts I have laying around.
    Sure I can turn it into an ugly 10 or 9 second car with one of my other engines that I have $3k to $5k in, but I want to see what it will run with a ring and bearing, oil pump, head swap, factory cam, and a stock intake. Its fun doing low buck builds, more of a challenge and you can do more of them in your lifetime.
