    Yeah, spend as much time as you can with your parents now as they might be gone sooner than when you plan to do so. There is a Chinese saying that goes "树欲静而风不止,子欲养而亲不待" which kinda translates to "The tree wants to remain quiet, but the wind won't stop. The son wants to serve his parents in their old age, but they are no longer around.". There is absolutely no better time for filial piety.

    For local food in Singapore, highly recommend the not so widely mentioned Malay Muslim food such as mee rebus, mee siam and mee soto. They can be easily found in most hawker centres and food courts at a reasonable price.

    • @Neednoy2

      "Mee Siam" (literally "noodles in Siamese style", the former name for Thailand). I must try this dish to see how similar Thai dish it is. Love shared cultures. Makes me feel close to our neighboring countries.

    I love this! My husband and travel with our parents as well. We have totally different experiences on trips with them than without. You are absolutely wise to recognize just how special this opportunity is and the memories you will treasure. I lost my dad several years ago and I would give anything to have another trip. When I was younger I learned how to travel from him as he was a globe trotting business man. But as his health declined, we also learned how to slow down, how to travel at a different pace, how to sit on a bench and take in the experience rather than rush through. We leave this week for our much anticipated (and delayed thanks to Covid) trip to Italy. We will be taking our 1yr old daughter and both my mother and mother-in-law. Always treasure these experiences. Thanks for another great episode. (I love your dads side commentary videos).

      Hi Emily-thank you so much for watching and for sharing. This means a lot to us. Not sure if I can do 2 month trip with parents, but my family of 4 took my mom, mother-in-law and my aunt to Italian trip to celebrate all 3 of their 70th birthdays (all born same year). Yay for touristy. If you haven't done it before...join the tourists and do it at least once. You'll never know if you don't go. Love Sentosa. As a solo tourist/traveller I have no compromises, but, I am responsible for EVERYTHING and logistics can be headache inducing. Meeting new people also travelling is fun and I have relatives all over the world...71 first and second cousins and there are some I haven't met yet...until 2023!

      @LisaAndJosh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes!! there's a reason why things are called touristy :) that does sound quite challenging too--hard especially if you want to bounce ideas off of others too. but we agree--solo traveling is so fun when you get to meet new people along the way! and wow! are those cousins all over the globe? good reason to go visit :)

    Hey how come you guys don’t include accommodation in your daily tally of costs? Your experience of Singapore is totally different to mine. I found it really expensive and every cab driver short changed me.

      Hey Rick! Good q! We didn’t include accommodations in our budget this time because we were able to use our hotel points to cover our five nights at this hotel, luckily, so we didn’t have any costs there. Sorry to hear that that was your experience there!. we found the Grab ride app to be the most affordable and straightforward to use when not taking public transport or walking.

      All cabs in Singapore are metered and exact, so there should be no chance they could short change you, unless they went about a longer route than you’d expected. Or did you mean they didn’t give you the correct change back upon cash payment?

      Hey. I was paying by cash. They short changed change by as much as $20 in one instance. In another the driver distracted me by disputing the amount I’d given him. I should have held my ground and called the police but I was in a hurry. Cab drivers in Singapore are the most dishonest I’ve dealt with.

      @@rick7081 I'm sorry you had that terrible experience, and you should definitely report them! But I can assure you it is definitely not common. Still, it's always better to pay by card, if only just for the transactional record.

      Fort Siloso is free though. Good for history lovers. The beach is free too
