  • Marie Belloc Lowndes' classic "The Lodger" was by far the most adapted Jack the Ripper inspired story for Old Time Radio. The "Suspense" program alone covered it three times.
The first of these adaptations is of major historical importance for OTR as it was the pilot program for the series featured in the "Forecast" series.
It also was promoted as featuring none other than Alfred Hitchcock who had previously adapted Lowndes' novel in his silent film classic starring Ivor Novello. Listen closely, however, and you will easily spot that Hitchcock was voiced by another actor and his actual involvement in the program was nil.
This show as well as many other Old Time Radio episodes inspired by Jack the Ripper are covered in my new book "Yours Truly, Jack the Lodger" that is currently available exclusively for Kindle at a price of just $0.99/£0.99.
Over the coming weeks I am planning to upload all the relevant OTR episodes discussed to TH-cam as a compendium to the eBook.
The book can be purchased from
    Amazon US: amzn.to/3NpIDag
    Amazon UK: amzn.to/4aiErTL
as well as all the other relevant Amazon stores.
