Makar is an incredible offensive defenseman (and admittedly no slouch on defense either) but Seider’s defensive skills and ability to shutdown opposing forwards are already elite. @@AWCTB As a Wings fan I don’t want to compare Seider to Lidstrom until he plays 20 years, but I see him playing more that style of game and not as flashy as Makar (who is by far the best d man in the league). He’s got a quiet game where he’s always in position to make the defensive play and get the puck moving the other way. He’s going to put up wayyy more assists than goals and as the Wings get better his defensive numbers will be off the charts.

    When Detroit visits my team I will be getting tickets.
    He is a tremendous Defenseman. I play the same position (in the stereotypical beer league now).
    I understand how some are shocked it wasn't there guy. 50 points for a rookie is really amazing. 50 points as a rookie defenseman is supernova explosion amazing. People who didn't get their guy to win the trophy have to sit for a few minutes after calming down and read my previous sentence a few times.
    There are people out there who think that if a player doesn't score over 30 goals a season that they suck. You are gifted in the nhl if you pot even 10 goals a year. secondary scoring never gets justice because people want to have love affairs with star and marquee players.
    While it's a great game for everyone to enjoy, there are many who truly don't understand the game very much. That's ok of course.
    any of these guys could have won and i'd be happy for them. At the same time, I think Seider outshines them on so many levels while coming close to what these fine forwards did during the season.
    They're all great of course.

    Zegras first off, he didn’t score a point in 42 of the 82 games and lacks consistency, secondly his puck skills and flashiness makes him appear more productive than he actually was.
    And for bunting, lackluster on multiple occasions and no help in the defensive end, and also, you could take any AHL player and they’d score 40+ points if you put them with Matthews and Marner.

    • @matthewkabel6246

      if points was the criteria (which it isn't), than defenseman would be at an unfair advantage. And goalies would have no chance at all. That is a stupid reason to win the Calder.
      Also Seider had more assists, as a defenseman, than Bunting had playing with 2 All-Stars. Your points argument is silly.

    • @reedmathews
      @reedmathews 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Toughest position outside of goalie for a rookie to play is defenseman and mo played it with the skill and the maturity of a guy who’s been in the league for a few years and I don’t think we’ve seen him play at his best yet and to top it off he’s the best defenseman on his team and he’s a rookie
