Lee Marvin's lack of a singing voice is what nade the song so powerful. Lee gave us the contemplative feelings of a lonely, homeless, wanderer. The character he protrayed in this movie. A better voice couldn't give us that.

Lee was nervous because he couldn't carry a tune to save his life. But, this song was a hit and he earned a gold record. I can't imagine this song being sung by anybody else. Sometimes imperfection can be a plus.

Watched all the old Westerns with my Dad, when l was a kid growing up in the seventies. We loved them all. Shane, Rio Bravo, Magnificent Seven, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. All of ‘em. Dad loved this one too. For some reason, one way or another we never watched this one fully together. Now he is gone, and it saddens me we didn’t. One day Dad, one day.❤

Well the British government puts all the illegal immigrants and economic migrants in top hotels, gives them vouchers for restaurants and posh clothes and taxis - all for free.
They even hire security guards to stop.snyone going close.
Meanwhile those homeless born here have to starve/freeze on the streets or live in hostels with violent career criminals, drug dealers and murderers.
      I don't understand it Vince. ☹️

I was born under a wandrin' star
I was born under a wandrin' star
    Wheels are made for rollin'
    Mules are made to pack
I've never seen a sight that didn't look better looking back
I was born under a wandrin' star
Mud can make you prisoner, and the plains can bake you dry
Snow can burn your eyes, but only people make you cry
Home is made for comin' from, for dreams of goin' to
Which with any luck will never come true
I was born under a wandrin' star
I was born under a wandrin' star
Do I know where hell is?
    Hell is in hello
Heaven is goodbye for ever, it's time for me to go
I was born under a wandrin' star
    A wandrin' wandrin' star
(Mud can make you prisoner, and the plains can bake you dry)

(I was born under a wandrin' star)
(I was born under a wandrin' star)
When I get to heaven tie me to a tree
Or I'll begin to roam, and soon you know where I will be

I was in this movie and was talking with Lee Marvin just before we started shooting this scene. We were talking about a movie I was in with Elvis called Double Trouble. I was in the band with Elvis as his lead guitar player in the film. The producer of Double Trouble was Judd Bernard who was the producer of a movie called Point Blank starring Lee Marvin. Lee was telling me how he and Judd has a little understanding before he agreed to do the film. Lee told me that the agreement was that he got to do his thing and the producer got to do his thing. In Lee's case it was to get to take a nip or two whenever he liked. Lee also took a nip or two during the filming of Paint Your Wagon. Which was a blast to make by the way. Three or four hundred hippies high as kites playing drunken gold miners. It doesn't get any more surreal than that. What a way to spend the Summer of 1969 living in the mountains 50 miles out of Baker City, Oregon. A time I will never forget.

Don’t know how I found myself here - fair and square down Memory Lane. Dad loved this film - he and Mom took us to see it on a rainy day whilst on holiday in Paignton, Devon. Being a brat I complained as I never expected to love the film like I did. I lost my dear Dad in May this year how I wish I could turn back the clock. Miss you Dad - sorry I was such a grump, I’ll be seeing you and Mom again sometime
