By asking for a wheel comparison you mean what? Cars, airplanes, coal mining machines, every 'wheel' used in any machinery (for example: clocks with their 'tooth wheels'). Such comparisons are technically impossible - you can't count them. There's to much fluctuation in their amount due to unregistered productions and destructions.

If they did make a highway that connects all continents, as a trucker, that would be pretty lucrative. But also would never get home on time to see the kids grow up.
Cargo ships are extremely cheap per unit hauled. The only downside is they are restricted to ports. If there were bridges from Alaska to Siberia, or from Canada to Iceland and Scotland, that would also be a constriction (inflexibility of route). However, someday rail *might* be able to compete with ships (using such bridges), since rail is superior to trucks when it comes to large volumes and constricted routes.

So that otherwise the only major bridge would be the one crossing Bering strait between Alaska and Russia. We're actually so close to having a global highway network.
The USA alone has over 10% of the world's roads, with India not far behind. I know America has a lot of roads, but I didn't suspect the percentage to be that high. Crazy.

Even being in 4th place, there is still a long way to go to connect important parts of the country, mainly from the south/southeast with the north of Brazil where the Amazon is located. I think this is due to the fact that Brazil has stopped investing in railroads, so much so that railroads today are almost irrelevant to the size of the country, leaving the investment year after year in federal and state highways since the 40s. Fun fact: there is a federal highway that has not been completed since the 1960s called the Transamazônica Highway.
I thought for sure Russia and China would be top two simply because they are the 2 largest countries by land. It’s interesting to see the US has so much more road than everyone.

@@ItsJefin Not really. Western China would be in the top 50 countries by population (above Canada and Australia), and the rest of China is still bigger than India. Alaska is the biggest US state by far and it has way fewer people, and the smaller 48 states have fewer people living in the Mountain States too.

Perhaps you'd like to see high speed rail, or electrified, or double track if you're interested in passenger rail? As Dan mentioned we have a massive amount of track, it's just used for 25mph freight.
Yess America has the most! This is probably because we are very populated, and don’t have enough wildlife preservation laws, so we have A LOT of farmland, and the crops are all surrounded by roads.

I have news for you, we probably have by far the longest rail network. It's just freight rail. Since freight is actually useful.
