  • A visit to Jew town in Cochin Kerala in India, completely taken my attention. I lost my self in exploring the Jews street and the Paradesi Synagogue in Cochin Kerala.
    History:
It’s believed that the Jews came to India by sea route in 13th century from Europe countries, they have settled in the adjacent of land Muttencherry Cochin Kerala. Indians welcomes the refugees(Jews) from foreign countries. The Kochin Kings gave portion of land besides to the Kings palace. Not only that they started to live in the land of Malabar cost in Kerala too.
They have started doing some business in the land of Cochin.
It assumes that during the reign of King Salmon son of King David in the Bible, there was trade between India 🇮🇳 & Israe 🇮🇱 Spices, Ivory , Sandlwood, Peacock 🦚 were imported from the land of Malabar Kerala.
    Paradesi Syngogue :
When Jews peacefully established their lives in Cochin, they have build a Synagogue 🕍 in 1568 which is named as Paradesi Syngogue, which means in Indian Languages “ Foreigners Syngogue “ the Syngogue has spectacular architecture. From outside of the synagogue you were encountered to see the Colck Tower which is build in 1760 by Rabbi Ezekiel one of the renowned Jewish businessman🕴️
Inside Syngogue, entering the Syngogue where you can notice the beautiful hanging Chandeliers from the ceiling. The beautiful colour lights brought from Belgium 🇧🇪 The tiles which you see which are dates to 15th century these tiles, one marvellous thing is here the tiles are differe from one another; these tiles were brought from Canton, China 🇨🇳 by Rabbi Ezekiel.
Apart from that you will see beautiful balcony chamber for women.
    Architecture:
You will thrilled to see the beautiful architecture in the synagogue 🕍 entrance you will see the Brass pillars which are signifying the Pillars of 1st temple of King Salmon son of King David.
In the middle you were attracted to see the Bimah with brass, where Rabbis or Chazan stand over and leads the prayers. After that you well see the Teak Ark which houses for the Torah Scrolls. The Torah is like a Heart Core for Israel 🇮🇱 and it was pass down from generation to generation. Untill today the jews were called as people of the Book, why because they give their entire life in learning and practicing the Torah.
In 1968 India released a postal stamp issued on commemorating of 400th years of aniversery celebration of Paradesi synagogue. India 3rd Prime Minister Indira Gandhi made a visit to the ceremony. She acknowledged many things from her father jawahala Nehru first prime minister of India 🇮🇳 .
They were very uinque in their life style they believe in monotheism ( Belief in one God ) until today they have not Changed their God , their language and their beliefs too. She was veey much impressed to acknowledge the history of the Jews. In the same year 1568 the indian government realesed a Postal stamp which named after Paradesi Synagogue 🕍 it was a remarkable year in the history of jews in india. 🇮🇳
After the decades many jews are migrated from Indian to Israel 🇮🇱 at present we see less numer of Jews in the Cochin Kerala.
My visit makes me so delightful to acknowledge the hidden history of the Jews. Moreover i was very much admired by the beauty of the Synagogue 🕍
Hope one can make a visit to the Jew town if you find a time 🕰️ in your life time. There are Home stays and hotels are near by.
