Awesome. Thanks for teaching me. Can you tell me where these mines are near canoe rd. And Perth area. Want to head up and check it out. Please and thank you.
I've been reading about this place, even took the tour on google strreets looking around haha. This is set to be one of the first places we hit in the spring. I'm curious what's off the road cut and in the back woods a bit. Thanks for sharing!
You are truly a blessing, I have learned so much from you. I thank you so so so much. I live in Pennsylvania, USA and I've been interested in finding caves. I live in a section of Pennsylvania that is mostly known for sinkholes. Most of the area is dolostone, dolomite, or limestone. Do I have a good chance of finding any caves? Thank you for your videos, and sharing your knowledge with the world. I appreciate it, Have a great day!
Thanks - Yeah Lui is a real cutie, but with some major social issues. He has only 1 tail feather left. I hope he's not to violent with the chickens when I introduce them. I don't want to let him loose as he has no fear of cats, dogs, people etc.
Hi Caver, great videos. I noticed, where you spoke of introducing the pigeon to the chickens, a large birch in the background with what appears to be a large black mass growing on the trunk. That would be chaga. Lots of information about chaga right here on youtube, search will bring up all you need to know.
Great vids!! Very interested in rock hounding, lots of cool rocks and minerals up at the hunt camp. (Perry Sound). Found a cool spot the old boy call the Mica mine, lots of Mica, quartz etc. What can I expect to find digging around that area? Hoping to learn more about rocks and minerals in Ontario. Cheers
What are the chances.. I have recently started watching rock hounding videos on youtube. I grew up on Canoe Lake road, and I know there was apatite in the area. Any chance you could share some good hints on where the best place to look would be? Were you on a road cut right on Canoe Lake Rd?? Thanks!!
nice find, If you're ever interested in rockhounding in the Guelph area you could try the old dolime quarry between Guelph and Cambridge, there have been some impressive sphalerite crystals found within the calcite. you may need to obtain permission from the land owner as there are security guards patrolling the property in the summer but they're mainly looking for partying teenagers.
To make quicker work of the calcite you could get some phosphoric acid (driveway cleaner) and citric acid ("fruit fresh" type stuff in the canning section). Those two are the main acids in coke, but there’s barely any in it which is why coke takes ages. The concentrated stuff should make it go quick. I don't know if it will help, but concentrated hydrogen peroxide from the beauty supply place (hair bleach) could also boost the speed at which it dissolves - it works for dissolving metals which is why I'm suggesting it.
Not a bad idea. Just wondering what phosphoric acid will do to the apatite though. I was wondering if heating the coke a bit might increase its ability to dissolve.
Heat will increase the reaction rate, but if its too warm or it cools off too quickly the apatite might fracture more. As for phosphoric acid, I can't say. Apatite is used to make it so it won't dissolve the apatite, but it might damage the surface finish. It might be fine if diluted since coke doesn't do much. If I had any on hand I would test it on some junk crystal I have around.
There is a trick to using the coke to dissolve it, basicly do the same thing after you poor hot water (just below boiling point) over it first , it will make the surface area dissolve like 3 times faster when you poor the cola later :p
If it wasn't so far away from Hamilton, I'd ride my bike there to search for more of thar wonderful Blue Apitite. I've also just recently just had a few health issues crop up . so I'm grounded here at home . I'm off work for at least a week or two , Evan though it's against my doctors and my girlfriends wishes I'm heading to my cave in a few days to dig out where I found it was draining a couple of weeks ago. I'm not a guy that sits around when there's things for me to do , like you - I'm a do-er.
As for exposing the pigeon, Loui, to the chickens, it's best to aquaint him/her to the hens a little at a time by holding the pigeon,Loui,at first or making a small harness and leash, which won't be to harmful to Loui, and would still allow the chickens access for training. It might work best if he doesn't try to get on your head as his legs and wings jumpin and flapping might make the hens run. Training it to the lead should help first tho. I've trained birds before and have broken bad habits as well as trained them to do little tricks. I see you've trained it to sit on your shoulder and it is training itself to climb/fly? up to your head. Say Good Boy, Loui!! a treat after helps. But only after! Good Boy, Rockhound!
Land owner here, the parking in my driveway will not be tolerated any more, there is a small garbage dump created by the rock hounds, the township road department is going to have to fill in large excavations along the road, at the tax payers expense,
I just discovered your channel. What a treasured channel it is. :)
Blue Apatite is one of my favorite stones of all time.
Nice to meet you Louie. Louie seems to like you and your appreciation for geology. Just keep your fingers to yourself Caver.
actually just as I was doing the video I turned my head toward him to see what he was doing and he took a bite out of my eyelid.
Dang. Glad it was only the eyelid itself.

That bird steals the show, I'm hoping he appears in more videos
Nice video and I also love finding gemstones 💎

Would love to see the results of the Coke solving trick when completed.
woulda been nice

Some good quartz crystals in that direction and a beryl deposit jumps to mind.
😍 thank you for your videos. i hope you watch videos and find a way to soothe Louies poor anxiety hes feeling. poor boo. ty 🥺🙏❤❤❤
GRRRR! I moved out west and im from that area and never knew!! Well good the parents are back that way

Hey when are you coming back to Kingston Ontario I would love to help I am really interested

Hey that sounds interesting. I know that there was a big pocket of calcite crystals in that quarry by the Manor.
Wait, what quarry near the Manor....
Lol, nevermind
I cant wait for the dissolved calcite results
Just checked - It'll be awhile. I wish I'd taken more now.
still waiting? :D
Aww good luck Loui
I can't wait for the Bancroft gemboree

This precious little mineral collecting in the snow so I'll give it a try
I found some blue minerals in the Lanark Highlands, how do I send it?
Awersome video
i found a nice truncated piece once - had a slight red/purple middle with blue and green all around and it pointed- it was a find

Hey lloyd, hope all is OK. i'll give you a shout next time I'm headed down your direction.

try putting rainx on your windscreen look the stuff up
i was there about 1 year ago got some samples and returned this after noon not much there now on surface

Thanks for the advice

why dont you dissolve it in a diluted hydrochloric acid solution ? coke is an interesting method though, probably the citric acid in the coke.
I always used coke but it is very slow - so slow in fact I think i'll go with something a little stronger, just do't want to damage the apatite.
Whatever happened to Louie?
Sadly he got stepped on by my dog and he broke his back. Had to finish him off quick, but I still miss him.
lol. I meant- even not Evan. silly spell check.
grt vid not to far from me 10 miles maybe
