Ben and MP! It is so exciting to see you chasing your dream. Also, seeing MP's family along to help with sailing is so nice. They appear to be enjoying the experience so much.
Please keep this up. Yes, love vids with Yaba sailing, but also love seeing where you go, the history, the food, the people. And then we sail again, or work on the boat.
Is good to see your Mom and Dad enjoying the boat with you. They did help out a lot on it with you. Good they are enjoying it before you late off to the big sea.
I know, right? They already have a lot invested in theirs all plan, but Yaba would make a great junk rig. I love junk rigs, but my current boat is a cutter. She was converted from a ketch in 2006 by a previous owner. I also like ketch rigs, but in my size (50 foot) a single mast is more efficient
Yaba looks beautiful under sail , once you get to know how she handles under sail and can trim her right you’ll be able to pick up a few extra knots. Keep the dream alive best wishes from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 ❤❤❤
I doubt that very much. Maybe another 1/2 to 1 knot. Do you realize how heavy that boat is? The sails are tiny compared to the massive weight they’re trying to move. T
Oh my. What a wonderful video and first I must say. MP you are so adorable. And happy ! Your parents have got to be so proud of you for the accomplishments you and Ben have achieved. MP you put a smile on my face watching you. I got a kick out of the cannon pyrotechnics. 😂. Lots of smiles on board Yabá ! I really enjoyed the video thanks for sharing and putting a smile on my face. Hugs for everyone ❤
About a week ago, I stumbled across your video when you first raised your sails and MC got emotional. Well, that led me to your very first video and for a week, I have streamed every episode, I was fascinated. Not only that you bought that piece of junk, but that you actually sailed her in that condition. But as time wore on, and you were in the yards with what I can only describe as ARTISIANS, and the boat was completly rebuilt, I bagan rooting for you. MC's emotions became mine. Your growing love of your boat became mine. I fell in love with Brazil. I am a dog lover so of course I fell in love with your two. Now, to see you actually sailing, the beautiful work you have done and your adventures ahead, I'm jealous. Please extend my marvel and admiration to the ship wrights that built your beautiful YABA and fair winds ahead.
I'll be back for comments. 🔥 @ the moment 🔥. I did leave a reply to one. So after I cool down. I'll add my comment thoughts. Crews job well done today !
Congratulations on your amazing progress. You, your families, friends and ship yard craftsmen have done an astounding job of restoring Yaba. You and those of us lucky enough to follow your travels have much to look forward to. Best regards
Good morning ben and mp .....the best way to start the week is with a new Yaba video.....thank you for sharing and greetsz from friesland.......max......👍😉👌❤️
Thanks to OLC I already know how beautiful Florianópolis is, and that I have traversed Ponte Hercílio Luz's sister bridge daily for several decades, which makes me feel like Florianópolis should be my sister city, so Florianópolis already has a special place in my heart too ♥ from Brisbane Australia 👍
Hey guys, thanks again for just a wonderful video. Really love the way you’re learning to sail, learning your boat and have fun with each other and exploring everything! One tip from me, Don’t tow the dinghy,it can give you an extra knot of speed.. Lots of love from the Netherlands Bjorn
Would love a sit-down video where you let us know what your future sails and destinations , plans are. Obviously things can change because of weather and wind, but just curious where you might want to sail. Love your channel
Just watching it really looks like we could improve your sail shape signifiantly. You need a couple running pulleys mounted down on the deck right under the clew of the forward two sails. This would allow you to capture a lot of the wind that is currently getting dumped out the bottom of your sail. Probably worth a knot or two. IMHO. fair winds guys!
The sails are a bit small for such a huge heavy yacht, and the rigging allows for far too much slack. You might want to get some help with new schooner rigging to get some speed out of her. Great looking boat .
Thanks for all the great videos over the years. I'm having a lot fun watching the post shipyard days. Keep having fun and keep posting. We are in Havre, Montana and we're far far from the ocean on the high windy plains.
It's awesome to see Yaba under sail. I can't help but wonder if you wouldn't get better performance with a boom and mast mounted sail on the fore mast instead of the big staysail mounted there. Of course, being a bit of an unreconstructed traditionalist I'd rather see her as a full gaff rigged boat but whatever. Cool video, guys!
Lovely to sail with family. MP's parents, parents did so much to support the build, perticularly her Dad, who passed on his electrical knowledge. I would suggest using a lanyard for the hand held radios, it only takes a moment to drop the radio, and as you learnt from the outboard story, most things are gone. It also means that when you have to rely on devices at critical times, there will be much less chance of things going wrong. As the UK's MAIB (MArine Accident Investigation Branch) puts it: Accidents are usually a series of events, that accumulate to to make a situation much worse.
Looking good. Just a friendly remark (not meant as criticism!!) if you point the boat against the wind, it is a lot easier to hoist or lower the sails. Also causes less stress on the rigging, therefore your it will last longer. Keep up the good work!
Good morning favorite TH-cam folks! I’m alone today as I watch your adventure. How cool it is that you take us along to watch your adventures unfold. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I know it is a lot of work putting this together for us every week. You are awesome! You made it!!
i’m thinking you should rig her as a gaff rig…seems like you need more sail area to get her to cruise at 6-7 knots in these conditions…i think it’s very doable…it will also keep the sail power down lower to waterline to maintain stability even with your short draft…she would also have better proportions visually… she’s a beauty!…great work!…what a fine party boat you’ve built!…exciting! cheers!
13,503rd tag-along view gonna set sail soon... 1:51 - it gets real... I'd rather spend 5 hours sailing like that than spend the same time confined in a car in heavy traffic. 2:52 - great drone footage! 12:17 - word: a sense of 'authentic re-creation' of an era not that long ago. Yabá fits right in.
Have you considered adding some dabits to the back of the boat to hoist the dingy since it is so heavy might be a good idea? Plus you could add more solar panels on top of it.
Hi. MP: now I know finally were you got that captivating smile of yours, obviously form your mother. Guys: if I were in your place I would consider strongly to build some sort of a lifting crane at the aft platform to raise the dinghy with its motor so you can get rid of the drag it produces when sailing/motoring. And BTW why not attach a stainless steel lather so you can more easily go in and out of the water? Fascinating story about the defense system in Florianópolis. Cheers from NE Patagonia, Argentina.
Have you considered a wrap for your ship's wheel topmost handle when sailing straight? You can be certain of the helm direction without taking your eyes off the gauges, etc.
@@SailingYaba just a thought you could ger a presure washer take the workings out of it to hiide in a box for looks so you can clean the anchor chain as it comes up just a thought
I did wonder, seeing the dinghy getting pulled left and right as the tow-rope tensioned and relaxed, whether it might be a smart move to add a second, slightly looser line in case the first one parted... At least you'd have a chance to notice the issue before you lost the dinghy for good! Alternatively, you could make a point of always hauling the dinghy onto the platform, or you could fit davits.
I love seeing you traveling the waterways..How does she sail ? It looks like she could use more Sail ⛵️ meaning a little more mast..How much weight are you displacing any idea or guessestiment lol😊.. fair winds and following seas 🌊 to ya all

Yaba looks as though she has come directly from Thailand or the Philippines! Simply gorgeous!

Sailing Yabba looks amazing. The country looks amazing too. You have a wonderful life. ❤❤😊
I hope y'all will give us an updated tour of the interior of Yaba and what spaces that are not finished will be in the future.
Well done! Great to see Yaba coming alive again! Dont worry, she's only beginning to awaken! Carry on!
I am history fan too, so cool you got that ship to sail again.
So fun to see your smiles as Yaba gets her decks salty for the first time.
Yabá IS the scenic route 👏 We loved this video so much!

Are we sailing yet? Too much iron wind. Need to keep more canvas up and trim better. Maybe later?
Thank you for this nice tourist tour of Florianopolis. It's a beautiful island.

Yaba is a great lady moving at a stately pace...enjoy.
Seems to roll a bit more than I like in those conditions. Do you need more ballast or maybe a keel weight? She's not a deep keel boat.
Nostalgia is the word you were searching for Ben.
Thanks guys it's like seeing family. Love it.
