  • This is what my typical day of homemaking, during summer, on a work day looks like for me.
    I struggle a lot with meals on work days. If I don’t plan ahead, I’m planning for failure! This is something I am working on, as a homemaker. Especially one who aspires to cook from scratch meals.
    I hope you enjoyed today’s video!

    Good morning. Your video shows you hard at work around the house. Hanging laundry was always enjoyable.nothing beats the fresh air. I can remember the summer days in the 1980's my children and no air conditioner. A large garden, laundry, preparing meals in advance if possible and always some dessert. I loved to bake and only recently have I stopped. Thank you for sharing and letting me remember my home life. Hope you made it to the beach. Take care, Joan

      Awww, thanks Joan!! I am so honoured that I can help bring back those memories for you. You seem like the sweetest lady! ❤️ Thank you so much for sharing. My mom also made dessert often. I don’t, only because I need to watch my weight, but my family enjoys it when I do!

    It wasn't boring! It was real and enjoyable which in my opinion is relaxing. I too love hanging out the laundry. NOTHING smells better than sheets fresh off the line. I started canning my own beans from dried a few years back, and it's turned out to be quite a money saver as well as consistant quality. This winter I want to can enough beans to get me through the following summer - it's currently 105 here...ugg!!! Were having salad for dinner - way to hot to cook!

      Thank you! ❤️ I need to start canning my own beans as well. That would be a huge money saver! Sounds like you’re getting the same heat!! It’s too hot here to cook too!! 😩

    I enjoyed your "boring" video. Lol. I too love hanging laundry outside. I do it regularly when weather permits. I am so lucky, my current husband loves to cook. Our deal was he cooks, I clean up! Works for me! I should add, we are retired, so that helps!

    Hi Suzanne! So good to see how your day is going. Your fields of lettuce look just beautiful! I can imagine it's more difficult to grow through this heat wave, but it looks like it's not affected by the high temps. Your videos are not boring at all, and I think it's because your narrative is so thoughtfully done. I always get new info and new ideas from you. Hey, there's nothing wrong with cheese & crackers - so my husband also puts in long hard days, and he always says on these hot days that simple is the best. So now our tomatoes are ripening , and it's really hot here. I told him yesterday we will be having some form of tomato sandwich all this week for supper..and he's all happy about that😅. Thanks for the nice visit, I'm so glad you could relax at the beach.❤

      Tomato sandwiches are the best!! ❤️ I’ve completely stopped baking homemade bread, because of the heat. I miss it! It would be so good to have a BLT with some nice homemade bread 🍞.
      A note about growing the lettuce in the heat. It took us several years to figure it out. Our lettuce would start dying, one by one. We thought it was some kind of disease or something. But what we figured out was that they needed consistent watering, several times a day! Because their root system is very shallow. So they don’t do well with drought conditions. My husband has the sprinklers set to go 3 times a day - morning, afternoon and evening. Since making that change we have had success! They still want to bolt this time of year, of course. We just keep planting new lettuce.
      Have a great day Roberta!! ❤️

    Hi Suzanne, I can so relate to the high temperatures you are experiencing. I also do not have AC, so our most recent and unprecedented 10 day heat wave was so challenging. I am up at 5am and finish all the household chores by 10am. This morning's laundry is almost dry and it's hung in the guest room, not outside!

    • @thefarmerswifecanada
      @thefarmerswifecanada  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Leslie!! 😀 I figured I’m not the only one struggling without AC! It’s been so challenging, but I suppose being pushed out of our comfort zone is supposed to be good for us….right? Lol 😅 I hope so. I’ve had a couple of nights sleeping in the basement on a spare mattress. So uncomfortable!! Horrible!

    I’m visiting salmon arm this week! I’ve been hitting up all of your thrift stores ❤️

    • @thefarmerswifecanada
      @thefarmerswifecanada  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh awesome!! Churches thrift store is the best (across the tracks). If you are looking at buying any clothing, I highly recommend looking upstairs in their boutique. That store gets really busy, so it’s hard for them to keep up downstairs on the main floor. Plus they keep a majority of the nice clothing to put upstairs. It’s a bit more in cost, but not bad. It’s such a fun store to shop in!!
      Hudson thrift store is across from Tim Horton’s. I will go there occasionally, but they don’t have much except clothing. I find that the inventory doesn’t move as fast. Might be different in the summer though!
      Have fun!!! Salmon Arm is so great. Also check out Demille’s Farm Market while you are here, if you are looking for fresh, local produce and fruits! They have the best selection. A bit pricey, but worth checking out. They also have a little petting zoo area for kids and families to check out farm animals.

      Oh! Also, if you are here for a bit, the locals all go to Canoe Beach to swim. That is where the dog beach is!!!! In my opinion, the dog beach is the better side. Everyone is so focused on the dogs. But there is a playground for little kids, washrooms, and a food stand. Very refreshing! ❤

    Drying laundry outside on washing lines is the way here in UK
    It irons better
    Smells divine
    And is CHEAPER than dryer drying
    What a video
    Lovely
    Real life experience
    Fabulous
    Thank you x

      Yes!! Loving the line drying.
      Here in Canada, people mostly use dryers, but some people will still hang outside. In all honesty, homes are no longer being built (here) with enough yard space to afford room to hang clothing. Stupidly, I think it could also be a status issue. You look more poor if you hang your clothes. I don’t really care!!
      What about winter months? Do you get any snow? Or just rain? Do you still hang your clothing in that time of year? I’m so curious!!

      @@thefarmerswifecanada as much as we can hang outside we do
      Frost makes whites whiter
      Then we bring them in and ayer them on a clothes airer overnight
      We do get snow ❄️ yes and rain a lot
      It’s quiet good drying season here right now
      But I still like to hang outside I love the smell of laundry wafting on the line
      Divine
      And tumble drying can shrink clothes quiet often
      I do use a dryer but only in an emergency
      Love you content thank you x
      I love that you don’t t care about what people think about hanging laundry your

      So strange!!! The fact that I’ve had 2 comments saying the same thing, means there are a lot of hard veggies in cans out there! Might be a better option to buy frozen veggies. So unfortunate 🥲

    • @brendamaas4293
      @brendamaas4293 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @thefarmerswifecanada it is disappointing, I used to enjoy them. A lot of things don't taste the same anymore, which is why I cook from scratch almost all of the time. I find the frozen veggies to be very mushy, so I buy fresh or do without.

      @@brendamaas4293 I feel the same way about produce that is in-season. It’s hard for me to buy the tasteless grocery store veggies and fruit. I would rather wait all year to have the good stuff! 😄
