    A great Pedal.I used it for a long time with the remote footswitch.That boosts some extra power for Guitar solos.

    So I have started playing my SD-1 with DS-2 and it's clearly so good. At the moment I use the SD-1 as a mild Overdrive and the DS-2 as Distortion and it works well, and both together is clearly heavy and fun. I use a Wampler Ego Compressor in front of all as a "always on". It looks like my setup for the next few month. In the same idea I ordered a JHS Charlie Brown to use with my Angry Charlie, as an alternative to the Boss duet... We will see! So much fun to try all these combinations!

    I use mine with BD-2 I think they go very well together. Also when in second mode, you can turn the distortion about nine o’clock position, tone about noon (more or less, whatever sounds better), add a flanger pedal and you’ll get this swirly, electric guitar equivalent of an circus-organ type of sound.

      Nice! I like it. I don’t have a Blues Driver at the moment. I’ll put it on the list. 😉 I do like using a Dunlop rotovibe on vibrato along with a boss chorus ensemble for swirly type sounds. Add a POG and it’ll get super circus organish. 😂

    I have just received one that I plan to use with a SD-1. Your tips are interesting! My amp is a Victory V40 the Duchess (can't wait to get it back from repair!).

      That’s awesome. I actually got an SD-1 this last Christmas. It’s overall tone is a little darker than the 1991. Although Frusciante has been using an SD-1 with the DS-2 so if it works for JF it ought to be a good pair. Would love to hear your thoughts after you spend some time with it.

      @@MineLikeMeMusic I definitely will. I will try also with a more "transparent" OD that I have, the JHS Morning glory, and compare. I use a 1990 Stratocaster Plus with Seymour Duncan California 50s pickups. I will be close to his style at least for the specs!

      I picked up the MXR super bad ass variac fuzz a month or so ago and it sounds amazing with the DS-2. Especially on mode 1.

    I need to share my setup with you after some days of experiments to have a tone close to Frusciante's on a low budget, without using a Boss CE-1 (for its preamp) or one of the expensive clones. First use a clean amp. Then from guitar to amp, plug: a compressor (I use Wampler Ego comp) as a light boost, SD-1 as a crunch (for crunch parts), a BD-2 as a treble boost (always on), a DS-2 as a strong distortion on Turbo mode (and eventually a second one for a light distortion), then as a chorus I use MXR micro Flanger (you can find chorus tones in it...). The BD-2 is always on with the compressor for the clean tone, and I use the other pedals according to the songs played...

    Nice video. Just bought one and was wondering how to deal with the huge volume jump when turning it on. You and Dave Simpson said basically the same: Use a basic drive before DS-2. Can't wait to get home and try it.

    • @MineLikeMeMusic

      Awesome! The volume jump isn’t an issue unless you’ve got the volume all the way up. Which is always really fun to do 🤣

      @@MineLikeMeMusic I've used it different ways. As a clean boost in the Turbo mode II into a Marshall and Peavey VTM60 it's great for any kind of metal. Jon from Dissection used them into dual reverb Jcm900s and got a great sound. Sometimes I add a little hair on the pedal for death metal. In regular mode 1 it's more flat and works well for rock and blues.

    Does anyone here have experience using an original Boss CE-1 with a ds-2? I'm running my boss ds2 --> CE-1 --> front of amp and getting a ton of noise. I'm trying to tame the thing and can't tell if it's the ds2 or the CE-1 causing the noise, but I'm thinking it's the ds-2. When I isolate each pedal, it's not nearly as bad, so that tells me the two pedals aren't getting along well lol. Wondering if anyone knows how John uses these two pedals and if I'm possibly doing something wrong given how sensitive these pedals seem to be. 🤘🏻

      @MineLikeMeMusic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wish I had experience with that chorus pedal. Congrats on having one! I’ll have to research that for myself. Have you checked out any Dave Simpson videos to see if he has covered that issue?

    I'm a long time user of the DS-1 but have used the DS-2 in the past. My two cents: Both pedals d e s i r e a dirty amp. Yes, you can emulate that with a pedal. But save yourself the real estate and give your amp some grit. As for the pedals: keep the tone way down, waaaaay down that is. Adjust the level to unity gain or a tad above, then crank the distortion at will. More = Better. Don't want to do that and your amp shall remain clean? Okay, can be done. But in that case, well, ah, forget about it, there's no point. Give, your, amp, some, nice, dirt!

    • @MineLikeMeMusic
      @MineLikeMeMusic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed! I’m starting to feel that way about all gain pedals. They just sound better when you get some dirt in front of them.
