    Finally finishing my Wild Beyond the Witchlight coverage, we have the new monsters in Wild Beyond the Witchlight. There are significantly more in the book than are found in the Creatures Appendix, so I was glad I took the time to go through the whole book. What do you think? Which monster is your favorite?
    Thanks for watching!

    Here is a plot hook for when using the Jabberwock. The reason the why no immature jabberwocks have been sighted is because the jabberwock is in fact a humanoid that has been possessed and changed by the spirit of the jabberwock. The player party could come across or travel with a green dragon bloodline sorcerer npc that turns into the jabberwock when the party least expects it. Depending on the party, they could be giving the option to kill the npc or try to save it by exorcising the spirit of the jabberwock.

    I’d change the following for the jabberwok. Change the regeneration being turned off by slashing to magical slashing and adamantine weapons that deal slashing. And Like with many magical creatures I add magic weapons so it’s attacks are dealing magical damage.
    Iggwilv is awesome. I’d be adding more to the glass Pegasus and golem (magical attacks and perhaps some other minor trait).
    Base official stat locks are usually too weak, and I find I super often tweak them. Particularly max or more HP and adding magic weapons to lots of creatures especially all dragons! Fun video thanks.

    There are some good characters and interesting stat blocks in there.
    It's a shame this vision/these themes of the Feywild are so vastly different from what i like about it :/ I had really hoped for a darker more 'primal' Feywild book with less quirky animal folk and more otherworldly and weird Fey creatures.

    • @Gauldame
      @Gauldame 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I run the feywild heavily influenced by the old myths with a sprinkle of mythos. Switching from the "Black v White or Shades of Grey" moralities to a more "Blue and Orange" morality (as per tv tropes for reference).
      There are rules, yes I have guidelines as the dm, yes if you read anything about fey deals you have a general outline of how they work. No it isn't going to make sense and no they don't play by alignment rules.

      @@bluebird3281 From TV Tropes: “These characters have a moral framework that is so utterly alien and foreign to human experience that we can't peg them as "good" or "evil". They aren't a Chaotic Neutral Unfettered, though they may seem to act terrifyingly randomly; nor are they necessarily a Lawful Neutral Fettered, because our and their understanding of "law" as a concept may not even be equivalent. There might be a logic behind their actions, it's just that they operate with entirely different sets of values and premises from which to draw their conclusions. It's also worth noting that such cultures are just as likely to be something we'd find appalling, as they are to be something we'd find benign and/or weird. It is a shame we wont be seeing the new Mage subclasses in Strixhaven. I actually really liked the idea of cross class subclasses. Problem is Lorehold was absolutely INSANE OP and wasn't available to clerics for some god forsaken reason.
    Speaking of Lorehold, Imma be honest, cantrip extra attack is something I wish more classes had a subclass for (Artificer's would make alot of sense since they cast spells through their weapon, if you are swinging a sword that also shocks people when you activate Shocking Grasp why can't you do both). I really don't want to play a Bladesinger.

    This is my unpopular opinion/dnd hill I will die on:
    The adventures are *not* written correctly for use as a dm.
    TLDR: They should be written as technical work/screenplays because as a dm you need quick access to specific information, because of course players are going to...well be players. Adventures are recipes, screenplays or protocols. Not novels.
    The adventure should be summed up as a paragraph, with key themes, like an abstract. At the front.
    There should be an Index of the *All* NPCs after, with a one sentence description. Further description can be in the splat text later. (like in screenplays or playbills).
    There should be an outline of "Acts" or "scenes" for the adventure next. (pg xxx, pg yyy etc) (like in screenplays or playbills)
    Indexes. Index of Figures. Index of Encounters. Use them. ( Firbolg...p 3. Ettercap horde...p 12. Epic Lootz...p. 57) (like in technical writing.)
    Each "Act" should have a paragraph (One, and no more than 4 sentences) explaining the key beats and highlight what the point is. (Ex. Act three. The players have left town and are attacked by bandits sent by the BBEG to throw them off the scent of the Macguffin.

    I really don't like the new spell casting NPC blocks. Makes creatures harder to customize and makes casters not feel like casters :(

    • @bleddynwolf8463
      @bleddynwolf8463 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      how so?

    • @shadowmil
      @shadowmil 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bleddynwolf8463 It breaks the verisimility of the game by having a seperate way spells work for player spell casters and NPCs who are supposely represents the same style of caster (cleric, wizard, etc).
      In addition it means NPCs can nolonger do things like upcasting spells. Which is a big deal for certain spells that actually affect plot.
      For example, Geas can be an interesting plot point if a BBEG is manipulating an friendly NPC to the players. But not being able to apply the effect at a higher level could break certain plot points of BBEG being able to manipulate another NPC for a longer duration.
      Another example, is NPCs are nolonger able to upcast counterspell or dispel magic to counter the pc spells.
      Additionally the rules for customizing spell lists include swapping spells of equal level. But if a spell is made into an action (E.g. Firey blast vs fireball), well it's a lot harder to swap that out for say a lightening bolt spell. Since it might not be obivious the indended spell the action represents.
      I get it makes things easier for new DMs. But at the cost of making it harder for intermediate to experienced DMs.

    • @bleddynwolf8463
      @bleddynwolf8463 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shadowmil i guess i see your points, since the overwhelming majority of Dms these days are brand new with maybe 1-4 years experience, i'm sure they'l appreciate it, but, as you said, homebrew heavy DM's might struggle

    • @shadowmil
      @shadowmil 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bleddynwolf8463 @Bleddyn Wolf As someone who started DMing (and playing) in the last 4 years ago. The hardest thing about being a new DM and running a spell caster is not knowing the spells meta (E.g. which spells and combos are hard) and in general what spells do.
      Generally I think adding a "creature tactics" text box, either to their description or maybe to the stat block it self would be the most helpful thing. They had this in 3.5e and think something like that in 5e would really help new DMs. Instead they are given a stat block and no helpful information on how to run the creature in combat.
