I make it completely different and still comes out amazing. I use 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water ratio. For example: 2 cups of rice and 4 cups of water. 4 cups of rice and 8 cups of water, ect. Boil the water 1st and then add the rice, stir, let it boil again. Lower the heat to the lowest setting and cover well to prevent any steam from escaping (some will still escape). Cook for 15 to 20 minutes, turn off heat and let rest for 5 minutes. After the 5 mins, open lid and serve rice. You may add butter or salt or whatever the heck you want, but this is how you make rice. Try it
How- thats so much water- mine just requires a half cup to a cup more of water. So 1 cup of rice w/ 1.5-2 cups of water. 2 cups rice w/ 2.5-3 cups of water😭😭😭😭
Its easier than that. Wash your rice in a fine mesh strainer then put it in the pot. However many cups of rice you use put in double that in water. So 1 cup of rice gets 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil then turn down to low. Cover with a lid and set a timer for 18 minutes. DO NOT REMOVE THE LID during the 18 minutes.

So you say, once was water is boiling, go from medium to high heat for 10 minutes. The water doesn’t boil at medium. Then put the lid on for five more minutes on low. Then turn it off for another five minutes? So do you put the lid on after the ten minutes from boiling to medium heat or before?
You said “from medium to high” but showed yourself going from high to medium, so I’m lowkey confused, and what did you mean by a “base?” What was the five finger technique for? Soooo many questions

There's a much easier way than this. 1) Buy a rice cooker. 2) Keep washing the rice until the water turns clear. 3) Put clean water in the pot. 3) Put your finger in and water should be up to the first line on your finger. 4) Press the start button That's literally all you need to know xD
Hey bro, almost got a little confused because you said go from medium to high for ten, then to low for five. But your dial showed you went from high to medium then to low. Maybe you could clarify which one it is? Thanks!
I like that 10 - 5 - 5. I usually do 10 medium, 15 on low/simmer to evaporate. So 10 on high is to soak the rice. 5 on Low to get the rice soft without overcooking/burning. And 5 to rest to evaporate, and keep the rice nice and fluffy.
I wash my rice 3 times then soak it for 30 minutes in cool water. This hydrates the grain into the center so that it steams evenly, then drain and add water1 1/2 cups per 1 cup of plain white or jasmine rice, I use this method on most rice. You can use this with mexican rice as well and just fry the rice in oil until its dry after straining it and then add the broth or water. then its bring to boil and 15 minutes med/low heat and 10 minutes off the burner, then open lid and fluff with fork.
So you get it boiling on medium then turn it up to high for 10 minutes then cover for 5 minutes. Then allow to sit for 5 minutes? Doesn't the water boil over with lid on it ?
Not too long ago I was struggling making rice. It always came out hard and crunchy. But then I saw your video and now I can make edible rice. Thank you for your help.
You can always use the 2 : 1 ratio. Some 1.5.. some less than even that. For short grain rice, such as sushi rice, you can use 1 1/3 cups of water to 1 cup of uncooked rice. But this is a matter of volume. What you're trying to control is the rate at which the water evaporates. If the pot changes dimensions, amount of water and cooking time changes. So in this way, the 10 -5 -5 method is a catch all that takes the math out of the cooking. Which is nice, and convenient. But it's also good to know how to adjust your methods to any kitchen and any tools.
