    📌 When are you planning on hiking the Uinta Highline??

    Hi Chad, enjoyed watching your thru hike of the High Uinta trail or should I say route. I'm planning on doing the hike in mid August 2024. Starting at Hacking Lake and spending 6 days doing 80 miles. I'll be 66 Y/O and possibly doing it solo as well. Should be less boggy and less bugs hopefully too. Thanks for the info on the trip, makes planning easier knowing what to expect.

      Hey you bet, Jay..thanks for watching. Would love to know how your trip goes next year!

    Hardly anyone started at McKee Draw until TH-camrs became a thing. Before that, the decision was to start at Leidy Peak or Chepeta Lake.
    And it's Chepeta, not Chepecka.
    Good video.

    Can confirm that the UHT going south, then up to Rocky Sea, is just as terrible or worse than the Jack and Jill trail. Just finished it yesterday.
    The UHT was fire ridden, not maintained, and terrible to traverse. Had to use All Trails, cairns, and hot pink trail tape to navigate.
    Not worth it. Go the upper trail as All Trails recommends if you can. We made it going on the UHT. It may have been less miles but more elevation and just terrible try and navigate. Blown down trees all over the place and very difficult to find the trail. Had a great time with the rest of it though.
    All in all it was a great hike!

      Thanks for this! I kinda figured the same thing when the trail I took ended up meeting the UHT and there looked to be nothing there.
      Congrats on the finish!

      At the moment, the upper, Northern trail between Helen and Lightning Lake is the way to go. The fire devastated the other trails.

    Good stuff here! Planning to do this next year. Are there any alternate routes you (in hindsight) would have taken to avoid certain areas? Besides the Jack and Jill trail, that seemed terrible 😂

    • @ChadLubinski
      @ChadLubinski  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Vinnie! Hahaha yeah wouldn’t recommend J/J, though most of the trails in there were super fire ridden so idk what would’ve been a better option.
      Other than that, there’s no other trails I would’ve taken! The UHT was fine…. Probably would be in a little better condition if it wasn’t a huge snow year!

    • @colbypark1311
      @colbypark1311 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Finished this yesterday, go the way All Trails recommends if you have the time. Stay high, the lower trails aren’t maintained any longer and with the burn out and blow out trees it is terrible to navigate.

      @@ChadLubinski I REALLY appreciate your reply and the review. I'm 70 years old and I'm not a runner/racer on the trails. Honestly I never have been... Lol. My backpacking experience has been confined to the northeastern US. ADK'S and Alleghanys mainly. But next year (2025) my plans will be taking me to Utah, so I'm looking at some bigger things! More challenging, especially for my age... Even though I am experienced and in very good shape. So my foot ware is kind of crucial. And from what I am seeing, you have logged a LOT of backcountry experience on some very rugged trails so I value your input. With that said, knowing I'm not a runner, but a plodder on the trails... Do you have any different footware recommendations for the backcountry in Utah?
