Love seeing that impact hoodie!!!!!
Great hike thanks for sharing your video. Lots of high climbing on that route!!!
Bro beats the crap out of his socks and expects no wear.. they’re durable, not magical.
@@kmccurdy21 not my fault they market themselves as the toughest socks to ever live.
Do you warm up first in a hot tub or just go straight from normal temp to ice?
@@jeremyrbell I do the wim hof breathing as soon as I wake up, then straight to cold plunge
40 years?! In America you work til you die brotha!
Bro got glammed for this haha
@@babijii well everyone is an expert at waxing a board don’t you know
I almost died trusting the R rating on klymite sleeping pads. Love your content. I just cringe everytime you blow up that pad.
@@patrickdolan. did you take it in the snow?
@ChadLubinski Yes I was using their highest value R rating pad 3 years ago. I got so cold that night I had to hike 2 miles back to my vehicle. Luckily I was just out in late fall in my local hike in camp sites. I've camped with other pads under 20 degrees just fine. There's numerous videos on TH-cam of others saying their R ratings aren't close to what they say.
Very interesting, just bought the book.
@@MrProphetius nice! Let me know what you think of it
Split boarding tip, you are gay.
Any recommendations for good sun hoodies on multi day or week expeditions? I’ve been wearing Kuhl but they have some stank to them after a while. Can’t find any good ones with merino like properties.
@@UnmannedExplorations you know.. I haven’t found any yet either. I want to get my hands on the Alpha Direct hoodies. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them but they’re always out of stock.
@ I’ll have to check them out. Until then I’ll stay stanky lol. Not like it matters that much anyways in alpine climates but I try to mitigate it as much as possible.
Real men don't Wear gloves
Please go out to an alpine summit and don’t wear gloves. Then report back with your findings.
@@ervinclark6572 lol
Wear gloves,let's not get frostbite
I got slammed with AMS after moving from Paradise to Muir which I didn't expect at all (but I've since learned is very common). I had a terrible night but luckily recovered enough by morning to continue. Agree with you that Hood was more technical. Climbed a very icy Old Chute which was much scarier than anything I did on Rainier. We were able to glissade down from Muir nicely w/o trashbags but this depends entirely on the snow conditions so that's a good point. Glissading from Muir is so much better than walking. Paradise to Muir was roasting hot. DC to summit was freezing cold in my heaviest gear. Gotta have the layering system dialed in. Really bad traffic in this park...no joke.
Glad you recovered from that AMS!
So this is actually pretty cool. I happened upon your channel looking up content creation (something I'm wanting to branch into) and came across this video. This is one of the exact videos I was hoping to create. A solo hike across the highline trail. What a small world. Awesome video!
Nice! I'm glad you liked it. They are by far the most fun videos to create.
Im telling you Altra MT King's 2.0 are simply the best running shoes I've owned..
how come?
A wrist sling once saved my life when falling off a ridge off rope. Ice axe wedged behind a rock and I ended up hanging from my wrist instead of tumbling further down the slope.
@@landdreugh9955 wow! What mountain?
@@ChadLubinski If I recall correctly, it was along the Warenkarscharte near the Daunkogel in Austria. I'm climbing Monte Rosa and Grand Paradiso this June. Would you recommend I bring my Petzl Summit (66 cm) or my Petzl Ride (45 cm)?
Thank you for the great advice. You changed my mind about trekking poles. I’m thinking I was too cool for them. But at the end of the day, who am I trying to impress? I’m there to enjoy my hike not be hurting at the end of the day.
@@noelspyro7473 I’m glad! they’re the samurai swords of the mountains. You won’t regret them.

@@daviddepodwin4579 you bet David. Thanks for watching!
Have you noticed any problems heel striking vs neutral or toe striking? I thought that was bad for your knees..
@@r1pperduck I don’t physically comprehend how people run on their toes tbh. I have flat feet and have always ran on my heels. With that said, I think the knees are very resilient to all that
@ChadLubinski fair enough.
You did it all wrong. 😁 It's a myth that ultrarunning needs endless hours of training. 25 -80 miles is usually what it takes. With 80 mile per week you are in world class ultrarunning territory. In the range of 25-50 miles per week you can do most if not all races if you build up to it properly. You might not win them but you can do them. And no long run needs to be longer than 3 hours / 20 miles whatever comes first.
@@fritz4345 yeah the most miles I ran a week for my 100 was 40
No one even considered starting at McKee Draw when doing the Highline until 5-6 years ago. The Highline Trail was always Leidy Peak or even Chepeta Lake to Mirror Lake Hwy. Locals were only concerned about hiking the Uintas, not trail 025. Even the authoritative book on the Unitas by Jeff and Brad Probst say the Highline Trail is Leidy Peak to Mirror Lake Hwy. So don't feel like you didn't complete the Highline Trail if you started at Leidy or Chepeta...both are just fine. And in Rock Creek Basin, going around to Helen and Lightning Lakes and even up to Gladys and Rosalie Lakes is prettier anyway (even more so after the fire).
I did the John Muir Trail in the early 70s things were different in those days almost everyone that started finished and I did the whole hike without a food stop. I also left really early June 23 to be exact going north to south. I had all the topo maps and Starrs Guide. I got lost once and it was mostly because of a lot of snow. There was a lot of snow, but I also left really early and walking on snow when it’s frozen was a lot easier than when it started to thaw in the afternoon I also highly recommend to start hiking even before you can see where you’re going. It does two things: to get you warm you get over the passes early And allows you to spend the afternoons, relaxing. I was occupied fishing every day and of course I ate trout every single day. I also never had a drop of rain fall on me. I’ve hiked sections of the trail and some of the side sections many times and usually the rains come in July and early August And can be pretty nasty. Also, in those days there were no Bear buckets we slung our stuff in the trees. I only had a problem with bears in Yosemite and that problem is still the same. Those bears are not necessarily really wild anymore today the ones you meet like in Kings Canyon Sequoia Keep their distance. It took 21 days with one easy day
@@greggnovotny3492 you carried 21 days of food?

Not necessarily saying that I am going to abandon Altra (currently on LP 8), but i second what you said re their durability. this is concerning; if it's not resolved, we will see more users leaving this brand.
Agreed. By the amount of comments on this post, it looks like it's happening!
Love these Chad. For the past 15yrs I've been big into weightlifting. In 2024, because of an accident, I had to take some time off and with the reality that I am now 40 (haha) I have started to incorporate Yoga 3x a week. The fuel into your car, maintenance, and rest are crucial and I have found in just doing this for a year has helped me mentally as well.
@@ColbyontheTrail thanks for sharing and glad you’re getting that maintenance in!
Just started watching (I had nobo permits a couple years ago but had to cancel due to high snow). Glad I checked settings as it defaulted on 360 and now I’m watching in 1080p ! So much better -)

Save more by dabbing the wax block on the iron for a second, then rub it on the board, repeat. You use half the amount of wax. This is called Crayoning because it looks like the texture of a crayon on the board. Once it's covered then iron it.

I have so many good memories on this trail. It’s a shame you didn’t stop and fish Duffy or Mowich. Both lakes hold some of the most gorgeous trout I have ever caught in my life. Truly magical fishing in those lakes. Mowich is especially known for holding absolute DONKEY trout! Thanks for the video!
Would love to get back on this trail and do that...good call!

I had a similar experience. When I got the Lone Peak 3's I became a fan, and bought three pairs of Cayd, some high top hikers and over time, three more pairs of hiking shoes. One pair the sole started coming off, as with yours, and another pair damaged my right big toe, though I couldn't figure out why. That was unforgivable, and I threw them away though they were not used that much. What I think is that VF Corp bought the original Altra brand from Icon Health and Fitness in Logan, Utah, and cheapened them to cash in. I stayed with zero drop but won't ever buy another pair of Altras.
That gear is sitting until my body recovers quite honestly.
So what are your favorite wide toe box shoes? Great video btw!! Gonna be getting some topos soon too.
