I guarantee that just about EVERY 90's kid knows who Rockapella is without actually knowing who they are. Rockapella was the group that did the theme some from Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego (the live game show version)!!

That’s Debbie Allen with Spike Lee. The Do it Acapela documentary featured several artists/groups, including Take 6, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and The Persuasions (plus others).
I have both the cassette tape & CD of the documentary’s soundtrack. This and The Persuasions’ Street Corner Symphony & The Four Tops’ The Way Nature Planned it CDs were the music that my family traveled to when my husband was active duty military. Excellent singalong road-trip music!!!🎼 🎶

VoicePlay also cites Rockapella as an influence. Also, Geoff and Tim are both *HUGE* fans of this bass singer, Barry Carl.

This show (Spike Lee's "Do it A Cappella") marked the beginning of my own journey with a cappella groups back in the day (I'm a lot older than you, Dave :), starting with Rockapella, , the Persuasions, and Take 6 - I'm delighted to see you rediscover it! I second the previous recommendation by Daventunes for the Nylons and the Blenders as well.

For a while after 9/11, Rockapella wouldn't sing the lyrics about the High Wire Zombie 'tween the World Trades... It's kind of ironic that the camera pans to the other group giving a surly look during that World Trade line. Little did they know...

"Back to back, belly to belly,. I don't give a damn because I am stone dead already!" Yeah, gonna be singing or thinking this all day!!! What a great hook, and a great reaction! 😁😁😎

Love Rockapella! Check out their cover of Three Dog Night's "Shambala," too. Another of Home Free's acapella influences, particularly Tim's, is The Blenders. Another OG acapella group worthy of a deep dive is The Nylons. Notice that these are all prior to the advent of beatboxing.

Home Free's country music didn't start until Tim joined and later with Austin. The Sing Off show pushed them into being a country band because no other group was doing country songs. The Blenders were an influence to Home Free from the beginning because both groups were based in the Minneapolis area, and Rockapella was an influence to all acappella bands because of their appearance on television in the eighties on Carmen Sandiego.
Jeff Thatcher, the Rockapella vocal percusionist published Voiceplay's first album, and Jose Rosario Jr of Rockapella was featured on Voiceplay's "Hoist The Colors" and "My Mother Told Me".

NOPE DACE, Thats Wgy the guys here actually AGREED together choosing the NAME ROCKAPELLA, to incorporate ROCK music with Acapella style singing...THEY use ONLY their VOICES.... NOT ONLY THAT But the song Zombie Jamboree was a Hit for Harold "Harry Belafonte." The very talented Artist who made Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) pretty famous. Besides also being the Father of Shari Belafonte--Harper, only I think when She and her ex divorced, she started reusing her Belafonte last name again"

This is a cover of the original by The Kingston Trio from the early '60s off the album FROM THE HUNGRY EYE. DEFINITELY something that you should check out! MUCH better than this version !
