    Hi Bob and Jenny, my wife and myself were at the Culloden caravan site about 3 years ago, we didn't go to the battle site as it was tipping down nearly every day however, i wish we had now after watching your video. Well done and an excellent job.

    I went in the 60s and found it very moving, so much so that I've not been back and was a bit hesitant about watching but thank you very much for this - a good job of getting over to others the complexities of the crown, religious differences and clan loyalties. My family are Frasers.

    Thank you so much for the walk-through and reading of what is left of the writing on the faded memorial stones of the various clans that fought here. You made the battlefield up close and personal for me. Great job!

    Just wanted to say you did a lovely job of this, I am from Inverness and so many folk don't realise it's a battle for the crown and religion. I think the only thing you missed was the devastating effect this battle had because the UK government took the opportunity to destroy the Highland way of life by making tartan and bagpipes illegal - after the battle Highlanders were persecuted regardless of which side they supported

      Thanks, we have a follow up video on Fort George, which shows the length the government went to suppressing the Highland and uprising. The guide in the visitors centre was very good, talking about the causes and effects of the uprising.

      Yes we did, pity we couldn't film anything in the centre, but I understand. A great day out.

    I found your Chanel thru travel trolls and have sure been enjoying these Scotland videos. I’m from Wisconsin and have vacationed in Scotland for the last five years. Had one planned for this year as well, but COVID happened. So far I have been to most of the places you are visiting, I am enjoying the revisit.

    Well worth a visit, I was there with my sister and friends last yr. It’s very atmospheric especially if you visit on a dull day with the weather much as it would have been at the time. By the way the Loch Ness visitors centre is also worth a visit, it used to be very touristy and trashy. Now it has an excellent scientifically based exhibition about some of the underwater scientific surveys and finding of the Loch leaving you to make up your own mind about Nessie’s existence - or not😏 It was nice to catch up with you yesterday, all the best to Jenny.

    It's a very sobering experience when you have walked round the museum then you come to the cinema battle and it gives you a sense of how it must have felt for the clans on that day . The after events were even more horrendous for the people in the Highlands.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the cinema experience was quite frightening, especially when a lot of people were in there (not this time though)

    Unfortunately we couldn't go into the information centre last year as it was a really hot day and we had the dog with us, also the queue was so long. So we went around the battle field. We hope to go back one day as we sadly no longer have our dog but we will be able to go inside. Very informative video thank you

    Bob , if you get a chance to watch some of the battles in the Series Outlander , with Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe if give. You an excellent feel for how deverstating the battle of Cullodean was for the Scots and the Jacobites x

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we watched the first few series, I lost interest when they ended up in the US, but that's where a lot of the Highlanders ended up I guess.

    Did you find Prince Charlies stone and Cumberlands stones i was there in the 70s we could never find Charlies back then there was forestry covering much of the site and by the cottage, there was a burn with a sign which told of the burn running with the blood of the fallen absolutely fascinating site we do still have a lilliput lane model of the original cottage we bought there from the cottage museum as was thank you for sharing this many memories for me take you both an area I know very well since my parents had caravans in Nairn where the Jacobites marched from

    Apparently the money on the headstones is left by people related to the fallen, it's not a donation as such but the denomination of the coins denotes how close the person placing it there is to the soldiers. I discovered this after visiting the chinook crash site memorial on the Mull of Kintyre.
