By the way, something I noticed with the 2023 G14 is that, for some reason, the battery life increased significantly recently. I guess ASUS did something with these products in the software department that helps battery life.
@@Многоканальныймир what are you even doing that can't handle a little wobble? It's not a touch screen so you really shouldn't be touching the screen anyway. i looked at this model at best buy and didn't even notice it because it doesn't interfere at all with my ability to use it
I’ve been watching your video religiously for the last few months because it’s been 10 plus years since I’ve bought a new laptop. I tried out so many laptops but in the end, I just ended up with a gaming PC because let’s be for real, my old laptop just sat on my desk for its entirety of its lifetime lol
Thanks Jarrod!! I purchased a Legion Slim 5 14" based on your review, and after seeing this review, I have no regrets! The Asus would be $800 more than I paid with no real benefit other than G-Sync. I am surprised that the Asus w/ 4070 was only slightly ahead of the Legion Slim with a 4060.
@@PividolThis is the exact model I had. I paid 200 AUD to upgrade. Performance is great but I spent quite a few hours tweaking the Lenovo to perform well and efficient
With igpu only after windows loads I go from 35w drain down to under 12w. Says 5 hrs with 80% battery. It's decent but if you aren't able to plug for a day of work I'd either stay with the g14 or buy a 65w portable USB c charger that can do 20v. That'll keep U going for an extra few hours
same, not base model but the one with the 2060. had some issues with the screen but that was my own fault not the laptops. (packed my backpack too tightly during a trip) still working great for me otherwise though!
@@EverythingWentSidewaysfor real, have the exact same one but I eventually put a 4tb nvme and 40gigs of ram. Been using it as a desktop replacement for 3 years now. Was thinking of finally upgrading but non upgradable ram is a dealbreaker for me.
@@charliekempf I plan on doing the same upgrades to mine except 2TB instead of 4TB. How did you transfer the data from your old SSD? I plan on using an SSD enclosure.
The 2023 base model in the US would usually go on a sale for $500 less than MSRP. It was 16gb RAM but wasn’t a problem since you could always upgrade it for just $40 more. Not with this you can’t.
@@jivewigNo, but the 2024 Zephyrus G14 2024 model isn't much cheaper than a 2023/2024 Razer Blade and is less powerful with less upgradability. The Blade 14 is just a better laptop imo.
@@cameronbosch1213it indeed is, but then how is it different from the 2023 G14. See all I wanted over the previous model was OLED, better speakers and better build quality, but Asus sacrificed a lot for the thin design. I got the 2022 model for $1000. The 2023 4060 version was going on sale for $1050. The Blade 14 doesn’t get anywhere near as much discount.
Jarrod ! I knew you’d be honest in your review as always. Other reviewers take note. It’s okay to like a laptop but still point out the negatives, concerns, compromises present. I knew you’d be balanced for the viewer Superb review as always 👑
@@TheOnlyName I’m glad he found the issues I stressed theoretically in my earlier video. Guess I wasn’t off base 😅 Now people will know what they are buying into. Doesn’t make it a “bad laptop” but rather an expensive laptop with major compromises. If that’s okay with the consumer, then have at it. But people need to know That’s why these videos are important. I bit the bullet to buy the g16, when it comes out I’ll have a review. Not confident but at least it is more realistically priced in Canada than the g14
I watched your review first and I don't know how you get higher performance in the CPU (Cinebench 24) compared to G14 from 2023 and Jarrod got slighly worse results. It seems like jarrod's G14 has underpowered CPU for some odd reason.
I just took note of the problems he mentioned without mentioning any positives so you can easily identify dealbreakers. 1. Some screen wobble 2. No more 180 degrees, 135 only hinge 3. Keycap lighting isn't perfect 4. Trackpad topside click pressure high 5. No fingerprint scanner on power button 6. Only 1 c port has USB 4.0 and charge support 7. Two screws covered by rubber bits so accessibility isn't as easy 8. RAM upgradability missing 9. Rear screen lift mechanism missing this year (might reduce airflow but temp check shows all good) 10. 8945HS CPU only has better NPU for AI compared to last year CPU 11. Minimal perf. hit on CPU compared to other ryzen laptops in exchange for higher portability 12. Minimal reflection even on glossy screen 13. OLED Burn in 14. 4070 gets beaten by 4060 laptops marginally due TGP - so the price of the 4070 might not be justified 15. No BIOS customization comparatively 16. Linux test gave speakers a hard time and some keyboard functions didn't work 17. Higher price compared to last year by a few hundred dollars
Personally I think if you value the improved screen, speakers, weight, extra ram, etc, the price increase is more than justified and the premium is worth it. 1. True, I don't like this. The old model didn't have any. At this price it shouldn't exist. 2. I think this was just a side effect of the ergo-lift hinge. I don't think anyone actually cares about being able to do that. 3. Par for course, all previous G14 models are like this, although I wish the would fix it! 4. Par for course, although a haptic touchpad would have been nice. 5. Par for course. Windows Hello is just better but it struggles in dark light. 6. Par for course. 7. Par for course. Old models had three rubber nibs covering three screws. Not like youre getting in their daily anyway. 8. A downside, but 32GB should be all 99% of people need. Someone needing more than 32GB of ram probably isn't shopping for a 14" laptop and wants the most performance anyway. 12. Minimal means not much so this is a good thing. Glossy on OLED is superior. 13. Par for course. All OLED screens have the potential for burn-in, but I think that fear is overblown. 14. Not always. It's disappointed to see it getting beat at all, but in some tests it's definitely slightly ahead. 17. I could see this as being a downside if the old models no longer existed, but they still do. The higher price is justified given the quality of life upgrades. All that said, the 4060 version for $1050 from Best Buy is the one 99% of people should buy. Add a 2TB hard drive for $100 and there is no better value for your money out there.
@@rickystafford7433 yep, its insane to see the video playback test almost reaching mbp levels without even ghelper. For #17 Cost is way higher for a 32 gb option compared to the ram slot from last year. I got a 2023 for $1200 vs the 32 gb version at $2200. I did not upgrade at that cost, but for high drive and ram it would be under $200.

Great in-depth review, as always 👍. Just got this new G14 with RTX 4060 and 32 GB of RAM. G14 2024 skews with RTX 4070 not available in Mainland China for some reason. Was considering between G14 and G16 a lot… Hope the review of this year’s G16 is coming soon also 😊.
This is the first time ive been interested in a 16 inch version of a 14 inch laptop more since i always favoured or considered portability as a key factor. Any chances of a G16 review coming anytime soon? Great work btw youre the only youtuber i trust when it comes to buying laptops🙌👏
Honestly despite initial high pricing, the performance tradeoff for a sleeker chassis and superior speakers is well worth it to me! As long as it can game more than decently I won't complain at all. Especially considering those temps.
That battery life, wow! And the temps are surprisingly good too. But then again, 12W at 2500MHz is a low wattage to run the CPU at. Seems to work decent in games though, maybe a better CPU bin like you said. Plus just AMD efficiency. Overall pretty impressive, and in the US it’s a similar price to last year’s model. Just a huge shame they didn’t make a slightly thicker 4080/4090 version.
I'm looking for a new laptop for this summer and the G14 is shaping up to be my choice. Not only is it powerful enough for what I want to do, but it also looks like a professional laptop (none of the cheap-looking, over-the-top RGB lights on the back or angular graphics you find on most gaming laptops). A great computer.
Got the g14, no screen wobble. Definitely get g-helper. Can run cpu at 8 watts, with dgpu disabled and 60hz, it can get 8-10 hours of casual use discharging at 6-10 watts per hour.
Hey, Spanish audio translation is really helpful. Although i can speak English it's very uncomfortable having to translate to my brother all the time Big blessings from Cuba. As always god content on this channel
Hey Jarrod, always good to see your reviews as they are so in depth and helpful. Thanks to your testing methodology, I see from one video more than I can find out in a week. I got my one of these a week or two ago and was curious to see that UK models only have white backlight but are £2400. But all US models (I think) have 1 zone rgb and are considerably less. Aside from that I think it is a great unit overall. Speakers are absolutely magical, the screen is beautiful, keyboard is really pleasant to type on and makes me want to have excuses to type more on it. Basically a long way of saying thanks for your hard work, but thank you for your hard work 😂🤦
Considering returning the 2024 G14 I just got because of fan issues. When one of the fans spins up a loud "clunk" noise is made. When doing productivity loads this is really annoying, as the fan will kick in every few minutes. I've seen several threads/comments discussing similar issues. Inexcusable for quality control on a premium product to be so lax.
I'm aware of the issues, but I'm hoping to get one for college in the next couple months especially if it goes on sale!! Just hoping for the black model to be sold in the US though.
Hopefully you can play music with lots of bass for the speaker for future reviews. 2025 version has me bass and 125 percent louder, definitely like to listen and hear the difference
The Razer Blade 14 actually isn't too much more expensive compared to the 2024 Asus Zephyrus G14 models while having the maximum (even with the voltage limit) GPU power limits, upgradable RAM, two USB4 ports, and a nicer design imo. And the keys are per key RGB on the Blade with dark colored keys, compared to the white keys with a single RGB zone on the G14. I honestly cant see myself recommending the G14 this year, especially when one of its major selling points last year, the ability to go past an RTX 4070 in a 14 inch laptop, is now gone.
The worst thing for Asus is it’s not like they’re saving money by giving worse performance. Nvidia/AMD aren’t going to discount chips for running them at a lower wattage. And they’re keeping the price same while giving us OLED and good speakers. So they made a product which many people won’t be happy about while also losing a bit of money. What a lose-lose situation. Unless obviously their plan is that everyone buys the 4070 model for 32gb RAM.
@@jivewig Exactly. I don't know what Asus or many OEMs this year are doing, but it looks to be a terrible year for laptops except for maybe Framework.
That sounds nice on paper for the Razer Blade, but on practice I think this G14 will outlast it. This is just anecdotal evidence, but I haven't heard (or read) one not ONE person saying "maan, this Razer laptop is so good, it's now 6 years old and still going strong" or something among these lines. While with the other big laptop manufacturers you do have that, though it's not guaranteed, not all models are good, and sadly, the price isn't a hint on its durability. Still, statistic wise, if durability is something I care about, I'd choose ASUS over Razer. Though, on that note, unless you have specific needs, if you caree about this, then Framework is miles ahead everyone else. With the Clevo-based laptops coming after.
@Winnetou17 Asus literally had issues with speakers popping on older Zephyrus G laptops. Razer had battery bloating issues. However, they've since moved to a 2 year warranty for it.
@@Winnetou17Here’s the one person saying it. I have an early 2019 Razer Blade 15 Advanced (2070 Max-Q). 5 years on, still going strong. My channel has a video of me running Assasin’s Creed Valhalla on it, in case you think I’m trolling.
If this ends up completely replacing the Zenbook Pro 14 2023 I hope next revision of the G14 has touchscreen, because that was my main interest when getting the ZP14
102W combined CPU and GPU? Where's the rest of 78W going? Can you unlock this limit? And can the CPU use more watts if you limit the GPU? Very important for competitive titles
While I agree the price is great, the Lenovo is missing some key features. The G14 is quite a bit smaller as the Lenovo 14 is much closer to a 15” chassis. The Lenovo doesn’t have G-sync or Advanced Optimus, the Vantage software is quite a bit more limited than Armoury Crate/G-Helper is on the G14. 7940HS/8945HS is better than the 7840HS and can be undervolted. The Lenovo has NO USB4/THUNDERBOLT! Which is absolutely crazy in 2024 to not have. The max fans were quieter on the G14, at least on the 2023 model. Seems like the 2024 is similar. RGB Keyboard on the G14, better speakers, and the Lenovo has really bad DPC latency for some reason.
Amazing video as usual, and I really I appreciate that you included the 2021 G14 info as well, been on the fence on upgrading from my 2021 to 2023 g14 (I don't think I need a 4070 nor is it worth it and the 2024 460 variant isn't worth the extra money when the 2023 one constantly goes on sale and is basically the same spec) but honestly I think I'll stick with my 2021, it still holds up pretty well and meets all my game and work needs on the go as well as I'm still getting 8+ hours of battery life 2yrs in, maybe in another year or so I'll shoot for the 2023 version
that screen REALLY wobbles - eek. Not sure I want to deal with that. They spent the time and money upgrading to milled aluminum - why didn't they tighten up the hinge? So weird. Great review, as always.
Not sure who bought a G14 and was like "wish it was smaller..." - thing was small in the first place. Seems like a pointless set of compromises this year. That plus the rather poor performance vs last year's model and, tbh, ASUS has made the 2023 model look like a fantastic deal lol
You're really putting the effort into your latest videos!!! It must be pretty hard to find something to be angry about 2024's best laptop to justify a clickbait title :P
Dunno. Price of the 4060 version is exactly the same as the OG price of the 2023 one. The battery life is unparalleled though which is huge for it's class. If Lenovo can update their CPUs and get better battery life for the Slim 5 14 then it might become a good budget alternative. 😊
This was a contender for my next computer, but the legion series has PHENOMENAL build quality, better specs for the same or less, better io layout, etc. I got the legion yesterday. Maybe this thing is more because of the slightly higher res screen and compact design, but I still think the legion series is better than this specific asus line
got my 2023 g14 today. it just seems to have more of its own personality and unique aesthetic than the 2024, which kinda seems to be a bit more bland like most laptops nowadays
19:29 For linux support test, i think arch would be better candidate because it's bleeding edge so maybe arch have drivers for unsupported things from Ubuntu.
For the same price you can get a Lenovo Legion 7i with the 4080, go for that. (you can get it on sale for $2100 often). Just ordered mine, waiting for it to arrive.
It's a fine laptop, if you don't look at the retail price. Those wanting these specs should wait for a sale, or look for last year's option or the legion 14" OLED if you have to buy now
The new chasis chasing an early generation MacBook Air is insane. They should have launched a new product line instead of ruining the G14 and it’s airflow centric design.
Something I hate is that LTT or someone else popularized "one hand openable" like it's a premium feature. But I will always prefer the lid to be less wobbly than be able to open the laptop with one hand. The metal vivo books these days are pretty much perfect in regard to hinge design.
Well it's looking better in performance than the 2021 model which I had before. That's all that matters to me lol. Especially with the new display and speakers.
Would love to see you do a review of G16 as well, perhaps with a 32 GB RAM? Also, can you also include a view/perspective on these from an advanced productivity kind of work? Say as compared to Dell's XPS for that kind of use case?
Hi Jarrod! Great review as always. In the Linux section, I would suggest you to also test sleep/wake functionality on laptops since on some laptops its broken and you have to restart the whole pc to fix it
Just bought this. Not the best value for the money, but I just love everything about it. The design, oled, gsync, weight, keyboard, battery life, portability, noise level. The performance is good enough :)
Agreed man 😔😔 honestly temps are so good I don't see why they didn't just let the 4070 hit 100 watts. And give abit more to the CPU I understand they wanted it to be less hot unlike 2023s but I think 2024s cooling solution would of been enough. But ig by the end of the day the Asus team probably did lots of tests.
for the linux support part of the video, the lack of audio option probably has to do with being a live image and not actually installed and for the shortcuts installing asusctl would most likely fix it
Regarding what you said in the video about the 2024 G14 - as a hardware pro it's hard to recommend this laptop for gaming or creative work. For usual tasks? maybe, but then again you don't need to splash on a laptop that costs between 2-3k USD for office or light work, much cheaper laptops achieve that goal. For creative or gaming? a big no no. Why? The design is nice and the OLED display is great but that's where it ends 1. The CPU is basically a rebranded 7940HS - this is basically last year's CPU in a "new" packaging. If the 2023 G14 is already running very hot imagine what would happen with this year's thinner chassis and inadequate cooling while gaming or doing a high res video editing - it's going to thermal throttle and run super hot a lot more. 2. the 4070 GPU is slightly slower than last year's model, not by much but still slower meaning it would perform worse at an extra cost for this year's pricing. The 4050/4060/4070 are capped (voltage wise) by Nvidia to 100W-110W, anything above it is lost and you wouldn't feel any difference, and with the thinner chassis and bad heat handling it would become an issue very fast for gamers and creative/content creators related tasks. 3.The RAM is soldered! 32 GB soldered is alright but they sell a 16GB soldered RAM! this is not enough for a 2024 gaming or creative laptop, it's arguably borderline ok for current gaming but won't stay that for long, and really? stuck with a 16GB soldered ram and 1 SSD slot for an over $2000-$2500 "gaming' laptop? if you're after 32GB then you're getting closer to $3000 which is sick pricing wise! In the G14 2023 version the RAM wasn't soldered so you could add in more memory if needed. So what this year's g14 gets you? you're paying 2K-3K USD for last year's hardware with degraded performance at extra cost when you have better alternatives out there. Sure the display is great but what you end up buying is a screen and a sleek design - paying a premium for design and an OLED screen.
What should I buy? - Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 GA403UI - Apple MacBook Pro (2023) Apple M2 Max Chip 32GB Both device has close pricing here in Bangladesh. Currently I am using i7 Nitro 5 from 2018.
g14 i found it very amazing and good for gaming and work VERY good laptop and in my opinion i don’t really like apples laptops since most things are compatible with windows
@@QuoteService Can you give me your review of the G14 2024 after using it for four months? I'm currently using a MacBook Pro 14-inch 2021, and I'm undecided whether to switch to the G14 or upgrade to the MacBook Pro 16-inch M3 Pro. Thanks
Thanks for the video! I think this is good for people who want a low profile and smooth experience for some graphic design and video editing. Maybe some gaming too. Nonetheless, 2023's model looks way more attractive now. Hopefully they'll be cheaper now that this one's out.
I'm just amazed how close are the G14 and G16 2024 to the title of "MacBook Pro on Windows". The battery life is great, the screen is too, so are the speakers. The GPUs although power limited are performing okay and still better than any AMD or Apple M offerings. A really great all-rounder for anyone working on their laptop first and gaming second. But in my opinion they should just keep the 2023 chassis and sell it to the ones who like it - by all means G14/G16 24 are not the laptops of the model lines that were sold before. They are completely different and have a different target audience.
i dont know how you get basically 10-11 hours on youtube with the g14 2022, currently with this i only get estimated 2hrs 30 minutes from a 90% charged battery, with the device on silent and eco mode on
Saw the price in my country and it's about 2.150 USD for 4060 model and 16GB soldered RAM. Definitely liking the sleek look, but the price is just.... (waiting for OMEN 14 price here)
I do love that you test linux quickly. Anyone out here know what the OLED longevity when running Linux instead? I want to primary drive Manjaro Gnome on my next laptop and worried that not having the ASUS tools would damage the screen faster.
unpopular hot take here: the soldered ram on its own isnt bad, you get faster ram for cheaper and its the only way to really get faster memory speeds until CAMM slots start coming out. that said, 32 gb of ram locked to the 4070 model is just absurd, 16 gb is becoming obsolete and you really need 64 gb at the top end for future proofing or any studio/ workstation type stuff.
6:27 I know it’s impossible to put the holy 9000 Upgrade Score for the Framework 16, but please don’t disrespect it by giving it a measly 6.5, maybe remove it from the graph for the time being (I’m coping for Framework supremacy)
no giant vapor chamber, no screen lift mechanism, no extra vents, GPU doesn't have liquid metal anymore... they've gotten rid of everything that made the G14 such an interesting and hyper-optimized design 😢 it's still a great gaming laptop but it's just like all the others now.
They noticed their previous G14s were a huge success because it was a premium build with excellent price value, so they decided to max other unnecessary specs to increase the price destroying the value reason for the success. Looks beautiful but I believe it won't work as intended. For premium laptops we want 16" so it's not hard to see/use.
Now this would be a perfect laptop for me but not having a 2nd ssd slot is a bit of a deal breaker for me but damn that battery life has got me second guessing
Is it possible for you to publish the entire list of battery life that includes all the reviews you've done. I have a razer blade 14 (2022), so it's hard to figure out if my laptop is lower than the 2023 placement and if so, how low.
One thought on your gaming benchmarks. In addition to comparing performance to laptops with the same or similar GPU models, compare with laptops having the same GPU power limit. The 4070 laptops that beat the G14 by more than 1 or 2 FPS are all running the GPU at 140W+ vs 90W for the G14. So there's a trade-off of power/battery life/heat vs. performance there. The data is already visible on your current charts when I pause, so I don't think it would require additional testing. A great review of an interesting product.
Wifi performance depends not only on antenna design and shielding but also the quality of the analogue components (manufacturing accuracy, resistence for coils, etc) so mediatek might have upgraded their wifi card quality or maybe asus is testing or demanding more from mediatek - ex-qualcomm engineer.
Wow, fair review and some basic * Linux testing. I knew I loved this channel. Great work! (whoa, also, I have an idea for you - I could build you custom ISOs with latest kernels that boot into some benchmark / auto-demo - I have done this sort of thing lots of times)
So slimmer, lighter and more portable but less powerful. I think people who got last year's model shouldn't upgrade unless you need those builds and super portability. The 2023 models at least got upgradeable RAM. Not a worthy upgrade but still cool looking considering how slim it is.
Thank you, Jarrod, for this useful video! I think in 2024 OLED is still a big scary issue with the possible pixel burn-in as a result of a static image being left on a display for a prolonged period...
I ordered the G16 and i have no screen wobble at all, even when i ping it, it acts like any other laptop. I dont know if these review units maybe had flaws. I can defo confirm my G16 screen does not wobble at all during gaming, typing etc
@@Ben.N yes G16 2024, only issue i found is fan noise is a little loud, you can tweak it in armoury crate. Screen wobble is a non issue on my unit. Even if i ping it it moves for a split second a stops
having soldered RAM on both the G14 and G16 is the exact opposite of what other companies are doing. even Razer have slotted RAM on their 14" since last year. huge L for Asus
To be fair, Dell is doing the same thing on their XPS 16, although they are doing it worse by intentionally bringing a worse chassis with known usability issues to the entire XPS lineup. Imo, the XPS lineup is dead. As for the Asus ROG Zephyrus G series, I'm leaning towards the Blade 14 from 2023 or 2024, because they have two RAM slots. Literally the only benefits to the G14 are the microSD card slot (not huge) and the OLED screen. Otherwise, the Blade 14 wins.
@@cameronbosch1213 I don't consider Dell a company worth mentioning. their Precision and XPS lines are marketed towards business individuals and some professionals, but are awful laptops. The G14 is a gaming laptop and is catered toward gamers and enthusiasts which are for sure at some point going to want to upgrade their current machine when in need.
@ideoidiom You are only half right. You can't have SO-DIMM sticks of LPDDR5x RAM, but you _can_ have CAMM sticks of LPDDR5x RAM. So it's not like they _had_ to solder on the RAM, but they chose to force users to upgrade to the more expensive RTX 4070 config just to get 32 GB of RAM, which puts it way to close to the far superior Razer Blade 14.
Just a question What do you do with all these laptops after you're done making a video?🤔

Amazing device but I am honestly a bit disapointed regarding the missing features and the massive price. For that money, I would have expected usb 4 on aboth sides, per key lighting and at least 1 sodimm slot. Spending so much money on laptops yet being limited in pre defined ram is terrible. Or the ssd could be bigger. I don't see the value in it.
I really prefer so much the 2023 G14 design. Also, it is still very portable and has better performance. G14 4070 2023 has going on sale in Best Buy for 1400. I thin 600 dolars is not worth it for an OLED display.

The newer AMD chipset drivers fixed sleep issues that a lot of G14s were having, I wonder if it is related.
My 2022 battery life has been really bad lately, half what I used to get
That screen wobble though; noticed it every time Jarrod touched the desk or laptop.

Jared, you should recommend ghelper in these videos, as it makes these laptops so much better than stock.
omg thank you
Thanks Jarrod!!

The 2023 base model in the US would usually go on a sale for $500 less than MSRP. It was 16gb RAM but wasn’t a problem since you could always upgrade it for just $40 more. Not with this you can’t.
You’re also forced to buy the more expensive 4070 version if you want to get 32gb RAM.
@jivewig I'd just get the Blade 14 at that price, as it has two RAM slots and a higher GPU power limit, even considering the voltage limit.

You too!!! :))
Thanks!
1. Some screen wobble
2. No more 180 degrees, 135 only hinge
3. Keycap lighting isn't perfect
4. Trackpad topside click pressure high
5. No fingerprint scanner on power button
6. Only 1 c port has USB 4.0 and charge support
7. Two screws covered by rubber bits so accessibility isn't as easy
8. RAM upgradability missing
9. Rear screen lift mechanism missing this year (might reduce airflow but temp check shows all good)
10. 8945HS CPU only has better NPU for AI compared to last year CPU
11. Minimal perf. hit on CPU compared to other ryzen laptops in exchange for higher portability
12. Minimal reflection even on glossy screen
13. OLED Burn in
14. 4070 gets beaten by 4060 laptops marginally due TGP - so the price of the 4070 might not be justified
15. No BIOS customization comparatively
16. Linux test gave speakers a hard time and some keyboard functions didn't work
Also its thinner, looks more subtle, feels more premium with the aluminum cnc, better thermals, better keyboard, smaller brick etc..

For #17 Cost is way higher for a 32 gb option compared to the ram slot from last year. I got a 2023 for $1200 vs the 32 gb version at $2200. I did not upgrade at that cost, but for high drive and ram it would be under $200.

Basically a long way of saying thanks for your hard work, but thank you for your hard work 😂🤦
Glad you're enjoying yours, hopefully it's available soon in the US!
How magical is the speakers compete to Mac?
I think Asus nailed it in overall experience instead of pushing raw fps numbers, which is what Mac focuses
It will cost another 2000. G14 2025.
thanks for checking the linux distro on the laptop, it is the major thing I concern
I'm aware of the issues, but I'm hoping to get one for college in the next couple months especially if it goes on sale!! Just hoping for the black model to be sold in the US though.
There’s a lot of work into making those review videos. Very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
I'm going for framework on my next laptop purchase.
Modularity and upgradability matters more that form factor at this point.

102W combined CPU and GPU? Where's the rest of 78W going? Can you unlock this limit? And can the CPU use more watts if you limit the GPU? Very important for competitive titles
Powering components and charging your battery. But yeah 80w is overkill. Should’ve gone with 150w type c instead.
screen maybe
According to notebookcheck review, it can consume upto 161W in short bursts, 110W sustained.
Given the fact that Lenovo 14 is only 1050 regularly, it's a much better deal as the only reason to choose the g14 was the expandable ram slot

Hope the Legion gets a design overhaul. I have it and it just feels clumsy and cheap sometimes.
@DailyShit. The 2022 Legions were the peak Legion design. The 2022 Legion 7i was possibly their best looking laptop Lenovo ever made.
Ew Lenovo
ROGs are overpriced
Very cool, cleared your doubts. should we wait for a review on the 16 inch version with 4080 - 4090?
got my 2023 g14 today. it just seems to have more of its own personality and unique aesthetic than the 2024, which kinda seems to be a bit more bland like most laptops nowadays
The Legion 7i highest GPU is a 4070 in 2024..
It's a fine laptop, if you don't look at the retail price. Those wanting these specs should wait for a sale, or look for last year's option or the legion 14" OLED if you have to buy now
Great update to the chassis/design; shame about the lower performance from last year.
Superb vid, waiting for the g16 review with a rtx 4080 or 4090
The new chasis chasing an early generation MacBook Air is insane. They should have launched a new product line instead of ruining the G14 and it’s airflow centric design.
Amazing and thorough test, thanks!
Something I hate is that LTT or someone else popularized "one hand openable" like it's a premium feature. But I will always prefer the lid to be less wobbly than be able to open the laptop with one hand. The metal vivo books these days are pretty much perfect in regard to hinge design.
A well engineered hinge will open with one end and yet won't wobble during use. Those are not mutually exclusive.
Well it's looking better in performance than the 2021 model which I had before. That's all that matters to me lol. Especially with the new display and speakers.
Watching on my new 2024 G14, audio from these speakers sounds 🔥
Video looks amazing too on this OLED screen
Would love to see you do a review of G16 as well, perhaps with a 32 GB RAM? Also, can you also include a view/perspective on these from an advanced productivity kind of work? Say as compared to Dell's XPS for that kind of use case?
Hi Jarrod! Great review as always. In the Linux section, I would suggest you to also test sleep/wake functionality on laptops since on some laptops its broken and you have to restart the whole pc to fix it
Will that work with a live CD? We are not looking to spend additional time installing the OS to test things
Just bought this. Not the best value for the money, but I just love everything about it. The design, oled, gsync, weight, keyboard, battery life, portability, noise level. The performance is good enough :)
Agreed! :D
I probably would forgive the price if the screen didn't wobble so hilariously bad
It's good to make a choice. I have decided to go with Legion 14.5 at a good on sale price
@@Psi-du2lw I got one this week and I personally experience no screen wobble when the lid is completely open.
As always, excellent and comprehensive review! Thank you!
for the linux support part of the video, the lack of audio option probably has to do with being a live image and not actually installed and for the shortcuts installing asusctl would most likely fix it
Regarding what you said in the video about the 2024 G14 - as a hardware pro it's hard to recommend this laptop for gaming or creative work.

- Apple MacBook Pro (2023) Apple M2 Max Chip 32GB
Both device has close pricing here in Bangladesh. Currently I am using i7 Nitro 5 from 2018.

Thanks for the video! I think this is good for people who want a low profile and smooth experience for some graphic design and video editing. Maybe some gaming too.
Nonetheless, 2023's model looks way more attractive now. Hopefully they'll be cheaper now that this one's out.
I'm not a fan of the diagonal stripe. I would rather not have it to look even more discrete.

Still leaning more in to OMEN Transcend 14
no giant vapor chamber, no screen lift mechanism, no extra vents, GPU doesn't have liquid metal anymore... they've gotten rid of everything that made the G14 such an interesting and hyper-optimized design 😢 it's still a great gaming laptop but it's just like all the others now.
I have that Acer helios 300 from 2021 (11th gen) and i can confirm it have highest Total System Latency ever existed on a laptop xD 45ms+
Thankyou your work, especially linux test. I always need it but nomaly nobody do that.
In my country, the base model with 4050 cost $2000 alone. Overpriced? Yes
Nice, now it's time to hunt for 2023 model deal, which is the true offspring of Zephyrus G14! 🎉
best buy has the 2023 G14 with 4070 on sale for $1399 right now. Looks like a good buy to me.
I've got the 32g 4070 for 1400 soooo, I'm super happy with it.
Even the 2022 model is stronger lmao
So basically equal performance but better at everything else. When on sale, its a banger
Thank you, Jarrod, for this useful video! I think in 2024 OLED is still a big scary issue with the possible pixel burn-in as a result of a static image being left on a display for a prolonged period...
...the screen is wobbling even with jarrod just sitting next to it talking. Thats really, really bad.
I ordered the G16 and i have no screen wobble at all, even when i ping it, it acts like any other laptop. I dont know if these review units maybe had flaws. I can defo confirm my G16 screen does not wobble at all during gaming, typing etc
@@Corko112024?
@@Ben.N yes G16 2024, only issue i found is fan noise is a little loud, you can tweak it in armoury crate. Screen wobble is a non issue on my unit. Even if i ping it it moves for a split second a stops
🤨 Asus Employee spotted 👀 @@Corko11
I am a audio producer, I want a silent laptop, should I consider this ? I doesn't play games at all but I also do 4k video editing@@Corko11
Can you do an in-depth review for the 2024 Asus G16?
Waiting on ASUS to lend us one
looking forward for high tier new G16 with 4090 gpu review
It just feels a bit sad they removed vapor chamber, otherwise we may get lower temp with less fan noise
having soldered RAM on both the G14 and G16 is the exact opposite of what other companies are doing. even Razer have slotted RAM on their 14" since last year.
huge L for Asus
It's 6400 Mt/s memory, what do you expect?
LPDDR5X is better for battery and has to be soldered on.
@ideoidiom You are only half right. You can't have SO-DIMM sticks of LPDDR5x RAM, but you _can_ have CAMM sticks of LPDDR5x RAM. So it's not like they _had_ to solder on the RAM, but they chose to force users to upgrade to the more expensive RTX 4070 config just to get 32 GB of RAM, which puts it way to close to the far superior Razer Blade 14.
i just got 2023 g14 for 845$ from best buy really amazing deal
Just a question
What do you do with all these laptops after you're done making a video?🤔
Amazing device but I am honestly a bit disapointed regarding the missing features and the massive price.
For that money, I would have expected usb 4 on aboth sides, per key lighting and at least 1 sodimm slot.
Spending so much money on laptops yet being limited in pre defined ram is terrible.
Or the ssd could be bigger.
I don't see the value in it.
The best laptop YT channel !
I really prefer so much the 2023 G14 design. Also, it is still very portable and has better performance. G14 4070 2023 has going on sale in Best Buy for 1400. I thin 600 dolars is not worth it for an OLED display.
