Never would have thought you can bank fish for pike on Tenkara. Looks like the lake goes from shallow to deep quickly. What depth do you think you were casting toward? Were you using your usual rod length of line?
Yea I was fishing the rod length. I think it’s 12’ deep but I can’t be certain. I actually learned to wade there from a previous attempt when I was on the actual bank dry, I would spook them and most were hanging in inches of water so I made a game plan to wade deeper than them and cast up towards them. It may be a different situation anywhere else.
Big pike are fun on Tenkara too, but you gotta be careful. Once just exploded my Hellbender rod because he hit the perfect angle after eating my streamer and I set the hook too hard. Broke 5 sections of the rod!
I bet that startled the crap out of ya lol! Yea that first one was at least 20” and I think straight braid would have landed it but I would have had to two hand the rod too based on how that felt.
@@skiddyfishing It was definitely surprising - is the most recent upload on my channel. Sounded like a dang gun shot. I'm trying to catch pike in the 30-40 inch range, but I don't think I will attempt with the Hellbender again lol - gotta use my Rodzilla
you You should have used the Pheonix rising in a pike lake, pike will grow to eat the little fish that broke your line. its not about the pole you like .its about the body of water, the species of fish, the line matched with the power curve of the pole. Also, it may have been bad technique that broke your line. A deep Pike lake allows for a fish to dive deep on you. I don't know if I can do better, I'm fishing where Ohio State record pike are confirmed to live. I'm going to focus on Ohio's world class trout and steelhead fisheries for awhile with my Siyco.
I think I was using 3x tippet on this with a knot connection to the braid. I chocked it down to a bad knot. We don’t have many pike lakes here in Utah but I think you have some great points here.
Siyco is my favorite big game tenkara rod! Be sure to checkout the link to the product in the bio!

@@skiddyfishing I would like you to go to Ohio with Wasatch Tenkara Rods, get some Ohio steelhead from Lake Erie tributaries.
@CastorFamily-i6c maybe they will fund it! I wouldn’t say no 😂😅
@@skiddyfishing i got a 23.5 inch steelhead on the Siyco.
@CastorFamily-i6c I bet that was fun! 🤩
