I really thought that August series was the nail in the coffin on the division, but while the Mets were playing trumpets, practicing world series celebrations after defensive drills, and popping champagne for clinching a playoff berth, the Braves kept their heads down, kept working, and showed up when it mattered. Won the last 6 out of 7 vs the Mets to take the season series. Olson and Riley coming out of their slumps too. Championship DNA.

The Mets have no one to blame but themselves. They had such an easy schedule over the last two to three weeks. Starting with Washington, they lost 2 out of 3 to the worst team in the sport, they lost 1 to Pittsburgh, 1 to Miami, got swept in New York at the hands of the Cubs, lost 1 to Oakland, and another one to Miami. The Braves had a tougher schedule and lost 2 to St. Louis, 2 to San Fran, they even lost 1 to Colorado in Atlanta! That's a bad job by the Mets!

Mets had a poor game-plan with their starters almost as if they punted it. Notice how the scouting report has that the Braves are an excellent fastball/slider hitting team and what did Scherzer and deGrom do? Throw fastballs and sliders often. Scherzer mixed in a little more than deGrom but the end result was the same. If the teams meet again in the NLCS,Mets CANT use the same failed game plan they deployed this series. Mets could have easily taken 2 of 3 with a better starter pitcher gameplan
