I always forget to plant my amaryllis in time for a Christmas bloom! This year, I planted them early and am excited to watch them grow!
Amaryllis are usually only talked about during the holidays but they can be kept from year to year. There are a few tips to make sure your amaryllis are well cared for and happy! I also wrote a post giving all the steps - it's up over my site (wyseguide.com)!
Maybe this is the year my bulbs will bloom around the actual day of Christmas?! Maybe not, but either way, they're fun to watch and enjoy!
    Here's the process:
    - Begin by placing good-quality potting soil in one-third of a container.
    - Set the bulb(s) on top of the soil with the roots pointing down into the soil.
    - Add soil around the bulb and roots, pressing around evenly to push out any air pockets. Leave one-third to one-half of the bulb exposed on top of the soil.
    - For aesthetics, moss or pea gravel can be placed over the soil.
    - Water the bulb well after planting. Do not water the bulb again until the flower stems emerge and begin to grow. Until the stems emerge, the roots are not growing and active.

I ❤amaryllis. My grandma's memory lives on to all the bulbs she gave us. I missed her. I prefer them planted in my front yard for show. Bold and beautiful flower. I got 5 different colors.

My mother grew these beautiful dramatic flowers. She could get anything to grow...literally...even mossy lichens on terracotta pots using buttermilk and yogurt somehow. And, as you advised, she staked her amaryllis using thin wooden dowels she stained with a mix of green paint and water. After watching your video it's making me think I might try planting a couple of amaryllis bulbs in separate pots to set in the family room near the large windows. ...Thank you for your time and work in bringing us another great video.

My neighbor brought me an amaryllis bulb Sunday, going to add a few more to the collection. Last year my amaryllis bloomed beautifully 🌺

When the flowers open remove the Yellow pollen stamens. They can stain so be careful. By removing those yellow pollen ends the flower will last much longer. Do the same on any lily! Easter included.

I’m so glad you posted this. Reminds me of a project we did with our preschool class years ago. We used a wide, shallow, clear vase to grow just one. As it grew, the children could witness the growth and measure it. Think I’ll go out tomorrow and get one for our 3 1/2 year old granddaughter. 👏 Well done and thank you for reminder!

Kaleb, it's been quite a while since I've had amaryllis growing indoors. Maybe it's time for me to buy some of those beautiful flowing bulbs again. Thanks for the reminder. I love the tip of topdressing the soil with sheet moss.

Thank you for this. I’m sure to sound this seems so simple but I did learn some things. I did not know that you could put them out in the spring and summer and then reuse them.

Hi - great video! Can you tell me what kind of white lights are on your greenery behind you or where you got them? I love how delicate and twinkly they look. Thanks!

Thanks for the great tips. I love the garland around the window. Are the greens real or faux? If they’re faux, would you mind sharing the source? Thanks!

Forcing bulbs usually means they never bloom again.
