Ascend H12 Kayak with Longtail Mudmotor

I picked up this used Ascend H12 kayak for duck hunting this season. I plan on using it for some of the longer treks when paddling is an option, or as a solo layout with the longtail for areas that allow motors.

Interesting video. I've hunted from an H12 for several years and always just paddled. I've wondered about motor power for a yak, if anyone had tried putting a long tail on an H12 before. I have also thought about trying to mount some kind of trolling motor to the back of mine but with duck season half over here in Iowa, I figure next year I may just upgrade to a sneak boat or 12 ft jon boat.

I put an electric motor on this mud motor kit and it worked pretty well. I have a video of that setup on the channel. It was a good proof of concept so I went ahead and made a diy mud motor setup with the electric motor and it cut a ton of weight. I have been using it this season on a nucanoe F10 and its been working pretty good. Much better than this gas setup.

Nucanoe Frontier is what you need. I have a couple vids of it with the same mud motor kit.

That does look pretty sweet. I have looked at those a little before but wasn't a fan of the price and the sit on top style. I have always preferred the sit in style for getting in and having a blind. How does that paddle without the motor?

I've used this out hunting with the motor once this season. It's functional and Im definitely interested in repositioning the motor mount to see if it rides any better. But it's not super fast and just a little bit sketchy as far as stability goes. My recommendation would be to try and different kayak (maybe a creek boat or the frontier) unless you already have the ascend.

@@azlongtales I have never used one but that would probably be a solid choice. I wouldn't be overly excited about loading that in and out of a truck bed though with the motor on, but check out jetski ramps for trucks. Might be something you would be interested in. You can make some diy versions reasonably enough too.

Yep, I hunted out of this setup with the motor once this year in some shallow marshes during early teal season. I don't mind pushing the limits a bit, but for me this setup is just a little too sketchy. I still used the kayak, but not with the mud motor on the back.

@@kayakguys I have a 1542 Jon boat with a 13 hp swamp runner and had a great season in Nebraska because of my long tail my buddies and I got over 200 ducks and 37 geese really happy with the setup

@@jeremybahm2163 I have a 1648 that I am working on. Going with the harbor freight 22hp and a longtail kit. Didnt finish it in time for last season but mabe this year. Sounds like y'all had a great season!
