Awesome video! Great little tip around the 10 min mark to compensate for shaft runout.......will definitely be doing this on my reels going forward. Keep the content coming Trent !!!!
@angry_gopher3128 Thank you! The reason we started the channel is to share tips like this to hopefully help others in the industry we love so much.
Great video
I reference my reel mounts on my type of grinder too . Also find I have to adjust it when it’s near the end spec of reel.( 4.5 instead
Thank you! I completely agree! Whatever works for your course, your operation is the right way.
Loved the 388's
LOL
Its interesting watching the different setup and process between manufacturers. I run Bernhard grinders and it's a much faster setup process part of that due to the fact we don't grind based off the center shaft. Id be curious to see the differance in quality of cut between reels ground on each grinder on the same mower to see if there's a noticeable difference. Bernhard also don't come standard with relief grinders equipped.
This would be an interesting comparison.
Foley for precision, Bernhard for speed, SIP if you have all day.
With more of the Baroness machines in the field, Foley will sell more grinders because Baroness requires maintaining their relief to ensure the long-term cut quality.
@@michaelhenderson6975 I tried the orange machine back in 2002....I liked and now REALLY like Foley 652B, with electric lift table and rear loading for walkers.
Cats meow!!
Using a 652 (with crane) now.
@0Somerandomguy01 agreed
I have such fun with the 14 blade toro reels probing The hub (reel shaft)
Using a 652
@@paulchace2391 it can be trying at times.
My father had a set of gang mower like that we had a large property, it was one he bought from a golf course, let me use the sharpen the blades with a file and it came out pretty good
That's a great story. Thanks for sharing!
well done sir
Great video! I have been grinding reels on a foley for 13 years and had no idea on the barber pole effect great tip. I was wondering if you have a tip to get the correct traverse speed also. Thanks.
@@JonDomning I'm at 12 on spin grinding and 20 on relief.
How do you manage dust when grinding reels??
@@danieldelgado5469 The Foley 653 Reel grinder has a vacuum built into the machine to collect dust.
Do you ever have clearance problems when grinding relief?
@timtownsend7927 I have had clearance issues if I'm in a hurry or not paying attention. It gets tight on 14 blades reels when the diameter gets close to 4.5". If I am grind relief for the first time on a new to me reel, I set up for relief first. Sometimes, the reel may need to move forward or back to get enough clearance for relief.
@reelturftechs might make a good video to show some of the "tricks" you use when clearance is extremely tight or not straightforward when setting the reel up for a spin and relief grind. Anyways, thanks for the response. (BTW, I enjoyed your seminar at the TETAC conference in Myrtle Beach. Very informative. )
Thank you sir!
Im running some early 90's Jacobsen PGM 22's at home. I have been honing them for a year but i will need to spin grind them. How are the fixed head walk behind greens mowers reels ground? Do you mount the whole mower on something? Dont break my heart and tell me I need to disassemble something major.
@hobogolf Yes! You put the whole mower in the machine. You still have to remove the bedbar. It's basically the same as the one in this video, just 200 lbs heavier. 🤣
