    That dry humor about the visual aids cracked me up.
    It's certainly a neat touch to have BT branded paints, even though it's a bit gimmicky. But I certainly appreciate it and the BT-themed names. Also, never a bad thing to get a brush, a few paints and a basic guide for someone who wants to start out. Makes for a neat gift if a few people pitch in. A starter Lance and a pack of paints like that, I'd be happy.

    Great stuff. I remember that Army Painter stated they were going to be re-working their paint pigment density. Hopefully the agitators help as well. Speed Paints work great on Battlemechs.

      So far I'm seeing that speedpaints are easier to get a smooth application and end result over contrast paints and for half the price per bottle. The reactivation concerns as well as durability are solved with varnish but I understand the extra steps are a deterrent to some.

    6:32 the blue as it says on the tin, is intended to paint the barrels of the PPCs and I think the yellow might be to paint the front of the base to show facing.

      You’re correct in their potential/intended uses, but for a beginner set they aren’t the best colors to include, nor is the army painter yellow much fun to work with.

    if you want to bring speedpaints to the next level you need to try underpainting and zenithal highlights.
    spray them from below with a dark brown or black and use a grey from 45° on the top with a tiny dusting of white directly from above.
    for even more pop use a drybrush and get yourself an artist grade heavy body acrylic titanium white.drybrush over the previous zenithal to bring out the edges.
    then do the regular speedpaints to get the colors you desire and finish with a pinwash to deepen the shadows in the recesses.

    I painted an old plastic ‘Mech using the Factory Primer and Davion Green. It REALLY came out dark green and not so much olive green per se. Also, it reminded me of a contrast style paint that I saw you using on your Gray Death Legion tutorial. Maybe it was just me but being used to actual paints these were a little different. No worries though and in looking at the dried result it gave the old sucker a camouflaged look! With some proper dry brushing and highlighting it should look pretty cool. And if not, well I’ll just reactivate the paint and wash it off to begin again! Thanks for the review and all your tutorials. I'm brush only guy so the two speed paints I tried (the orc skin and slaughter red) did NOT work for me for my Capellans. I mostly rely on Vallejo Mecha Colors and Army Painter air primer and a few warpaints.
    I did find that by using the Orc skin speed paint with just a touch of AP Metallic Bright Gold mixed in you can make a neat color for Warrior House Dai Da Chi "gold tinged green"
    Their trim is black so reactivation wasn't as big of a problem.

    • @CamoSpecsOnline
      @CamoSpecsOnline  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That tip about using metallic gold will be included in the House Hiritsu tutorial so folks can just swap out the metallic color and get another scheme out of nearly the same paints. Glad to hear you got a good result with them on it!

    Sadly, brush on or airbrush are the only means I have to apply primer or varnish. I live in an apartment building and I don't have a basement or patio to spray on - and spraying enamels in this small apartment is not feasible (no, I really don't have space for a spray booth with a ventilator).
    That said, I'm happy to wait until they get this reactivation issue under control. I'm surprised the speedpaints made it to market with that kind of issue. They've got a lot going for them, but unless you're just slathering it over a mini and leaving it at that, there are times when you'll be painting over previous work. I guess I'll stick to contrast paints for the time being.

    • @CamoSpecsOnline
      @CamoSpecsOnline  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely understand, we all have different setups and locations to hobby. Hopefully when AP gets their 2 hour cure speedpaint to market you'll be set with your style of painting and it won't be an issue.

    • @ShimmeringSword
      @ShimmeringSword ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I've never had it be a detriment. Definitely a case where I say try it before you knock it, because I've seen a lot of people preaching how bad speed paints are that have never even used it. On the flip side there are good uses for the reactivation. Great for blending, cockpit jeweling, and battle damage.

    • @HeadHunterSix
      @HeadHunterSix ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShimmeringSword perhaps - but I've already got hundreds of paints and I know my preferred techniques. It's no longer a case of "try it, you may like it" but instead "does it suit the purpose for which I would use it?"
      And for my own purposes, paint which reactivates as this does is not what I'm looking for.

    • @ShimmeringSword
      @ShimmeringSword ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HeadHunterSix yeah if you're doing extensive coats over a speed/contrast paint you're not really using them as intended regardless, so that's a legitimate reason to not use them.
      Personally I wouldn't make them my main technique either, but sometimes there's a certain color/scheme I have in mind that they'll do well.

    • @HeadHunterSix
      @HeadHunterSix ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShimmeringSword not so much "extensive coats" but things like details, trim, and parts that don't need/use speed paints. I'm sure the "intent" is to speed up painting, not slow it down.
      Even in this set, for example: Does the average painter apply the metallics first and then try to carefully work around them with the speed paint, or is it easier, faster and more sensible to speed-paint the whole thing and then paint the joints/weapons etc?
      That's the reason I'd prefer to wait until the reactivation problem is eliminated.

  • @elijahelizalde4308
    @elijahelizalde4308 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm pretty sure, not 100% that the thing that causes the SpeedPaints reactivation is water, I've noticed that any water based medium varnish interacts with it, but oils and enamel medium doesn't seem to cause the reaction even when brushed on, I think it's also why heavier gel medium acrylics are more forgiving than more water heavy formulas when it comes to touch up work

    • @CamoSpecsOnline
      @CamoSpecsOnline  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I definitely haven't had any issues with enamel varnish so I'm thinking you're probably correct about water based mediums being the culprit. The new formula for the future speedpaint line that cures after 2 hours will hopefully make this reactivation concern a non-issue for folks. When people say "it's not speedy anymore if I have to varnish..." I just shrug because it's not like contrast paint doesn't take 1-2 hours to completely dry as well so a quick shot of enamel and 30-60 minutes later you're back to painting isn't much difference.
