      @@rhokesh4391 the only way to do it would be to make a story as flat and disjoint as the Last Airbender movie was verse the show. 12 episodes, or six hours, is not enough to time fit 200 hours of game play. They need at least 2 or 3 (I'm leaning to 3) seasons to do that much content right.

      @@rhokesh4391 you're not overthinking. This arc definetely flew by super fast (still totally entertaining) but yeah I'm hoping they split it up. Since the first 10 episodes were crowdfunded, and the last two episodes Amazon funded (something like that, right?), I was hoping that the animation would be spot on for the whole of season 2 because Amazon is funding everything now (the last two episodes had super cool animation). Then that idea spread to the story telling aspect as well, now that Amazon is ensuring the show a season 2 and supporting it, I'm hoping that means they don't rush it, because NOW there isn't a time crunch anymore, they can breathe and do whatever the hell they want without stressing to make the deadline (If that ever even was a thing).

      I do wish they had kept closer to Matt’s in game description of the attack. Seeing them all four, from behind, just wasn’t as cool for me. I think I would have preferred a teaser, like having Thordak freed. Then end of S2 ep 1 have the attack.

    If you rewatch episode 2 when they are in Kriegs basement, there's a rug with 5 coloured dragons on it, Red, Green, White, Black and Blue. Krieg was a blue dragon, which leaves 4 unaccounted for. I love the way they foreshadowed it. Krieg also uses *We* as if he was working with others, and those strange orbs that broke when Keyleth touched them, 4 orbs, potentially representing the other 4 dragons.

    Taliesin was so mad when Scanlan threw Percy's gun into the acid on stream. I still love that moment, and it was translated so well to the show.

    • @ForeverDegenerate
      @ForeverDegenerate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think he was mad because, as far Taliesin was concerned, Sam had just thrown Taliesin's entire character into a vat of acid. Let's be honest, Percy is just a dude with a gun. Without the gun, Percy is nothing. I imagine, in Taliesin's head, he was like, "Well shit. NOW what am I going to with Percy? That was, literally, the ONLY gun in Exandria! And I'm not just going to pull Bad News on every fucking thief I want to kill! That's just OVERKILL!" Also, I'm assuming that, being a Sniper Rifle, Bad News has the same restrictions as Bows whereby if you use it at too close a range, you suffer disadvantage. So, literally, if Percy had to get in close, all he had was his sword. And he just had a normal sword, not the good one yet at that point. So when placed in close range, without The List, Percy was kinda fucked. If I were in that position, I'd be pissed too.

    • @damieneifer
      @damieneifer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ForeverDegenerate any ranged weapon attacks shot in melee range make you to suffer disadvantage, unless you have a special feat on your character. Bad News is very powerful weapon though, talking about damage and range, but there were some problems with that rifle: it has higher chance to misfire, you need to reload after every shot and the something else which is the most important. You see, the invention of the firearms happened in the special way for Percy, his gun is unique. But you can see Ripley's interest in the The List's mechanism and just before that, when Percy checks her bag in episode 10, there is a broken gun-prototype. In the campaign there is said she once traveled south of Whitestone and Percy took it as a chance to kill her with newly created The List, but failed and was imprisoned, where Vox Machina met him for the first time. Campaign-Ripley was impressed with The List and tried to create her own version from eye-witnessing, dunno if TLOVM-Ripley will have same reasons to frick around guns, or will she be portrayed as talented engineer with same ideas on her own. The point is Percy could spend lots of money and make another pepperbox, though he ended up fixing Ripley's gun The Retort (showed in her things in the bag in ep 10). Even if he decided to make another six barreled gun, it wasn't impossible, but expensive and time-consuming for sure.
      So even The List was cool, original and important, why he was so mad?
      The thing is in The List's enchantments! Percy had two enchantments on this gun - the fire one and the ice one - which allowed him not just deal extra fire/ice damage, but to shoot magical bullets. It is actually very important in D&D since most of the more high-level monsters have the resistance from nonmagical attacks (which means only half damage taken by them), and every other member of VM had the way around it (Vax has magical daggers, Vex - magical bowstring, Grog - magical warhammer/greatsword/greataxe, and Pike, Scanlan and Keyleth are just spellcasters). Enchanting The List was stupid expensive, and, if I recall right, even getting a second enchantment was a miracle, and probably not possible to do 3rd enchantment at all. Taliesin/Percy knew when Scanlan tossed The List in the acid, he was immediately nerfed by a lot, and down the acid pit go also all the spent time and money for enchantments (because no doubt he started the game as The List already, but I guess all the magical stuff was from the money they earned adventuring as Vox Machina). These were two facts that got Taliesin very upset in this scene.

    • @ForeverDegenerate
      @ForeverDegenerate 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@damieneifer Ah ok. I was unaware of the Enchantments. But, yeah, it still boils down to, "You just threw my entire character into that vat of acid, you asshole!!" Doesn't change what I said about Percy without The List is being kinda useless. At that point, anyway. Sounds like he should have been more mad at Matt for tying Orthax to a nearly irreplaceable weapon.

    • @JulianCommodus
      @JulianCommodus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@damieneifer To add to it, Percy did have a +1 enchanted rapier and the Dragonslayer long sword, but he's not a melee fighter; he's a speed-based distance fighter, and is VERY squishy in close combat. (Never understood why he never took the Crossbow Expert feat, though I'm willing to bet that it's because Mercer wouldn't allow the reload feature to work with Percy's firearms.)
      I do wish we saw Scanlan charming Percy, tossing the gun and in a panic "Whenthespellwearsoffhe'sgonnabesuperpissed, someoneprotectme!" along with Keyleth using Hold Person and Percy's petty response to Cassandra.
      And Ripley IS a talented engineer, but, if you recall, she gets... help. I've a feeling the same will hold true for LOVM's Ripley, especially since this Ripley had the same handicap, probably the result of the same mishap.
      (Vex's bow is magical, not just the string, as are all the weapons owned by Pike [Mace of Disruption and the Frostbrand sword], Scanlan [Aberration Bane longsword and the Singing Dawn blade, both of which he almost never used], and Keyleth [Her staff, which was never named]).

      @@codex_jinora I watched everything from C1 E1 all the way to C2 E141 in 4 and a half months and did none of those things. Speeding it up ruins the pace and is super annoying (To me). They're actors, they have a specific delivery and cadence to their speech on purpose. And skipping means you're depending on other people's opinion's about what's good and "Relevant" or not, which is almost always wrong or incomplete lol.
      People should just watch everything and suck it up when it comes to Tibs, It's relatively quick, and he only gets really bad towards the end anyway. In the beginning I actually kind of liked him.
      Also there's no rush to get caught up so why skip the fun or supposed "Fluff"? You probably missed so much cool stuff by doing that! Plus Matt is a sneaky SOB and hides super interesting and important hints and information in casual conversations that often goes over peoples heads, Including the Party, because he's not drawing any attention to it with a music cue or a facial expression like a movie would to baby an audience and do the intellectual detective work for them.

  • @JulianCommodus
    @JulianCommodus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    "He has to reload eventually... right?"
    I love that Vex was that optimistic, since he's already fired about 48 shots without reloading and knows by now that Percy only requires one of his three attacks a round to reload if that hinderance seemed to apply.

    • @Dead25m
      @Dead25m 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It stopped applying once Orthax took over in the show, that's what I gathered, rather than requiring physical ammunition, Orthax fired purely magic projectiles.

    • @ForeverDegenerate
      @ForeverDegenerate 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dead25m Yep. Whenever Orthax is firing The List, it erupts into flame and shoots Incendiary Rounds. Originally in the Campaign, The List had two Enchantments on it: Fire and Ice. This is a large reason why Taliesin Jaffe still hasn't forgiven Sam Riegel for dumping The List into a vat of acid. Those Enchantments alone were, probably, worth the entirety of Greyskull Keep in terms of Gold. For the Animated Series, they did away with the Enchantments and merged the Fire Enchantment with Orthax. That also, in universe, justifies the change in Orthax's Color Palette. In the Campaign, Orthax's Energy/Magic was Purple. But in the Animated Series, they made Delilah's and The Whispered One's Magic Purple (I don't know what color their magic was in the Campaign) so they didn't want people to think The Whispered One was also possessing Percy. So they merged the Fire Enchantment with Orthax, turning him into a Vengeance Demon of Fire, changing his Color Palette to Fire and Darkness. So when Orthax is the one firing The List, not only does it have the power of a Hand Cannon, but it also has Infinite Ammo. Think about how terrifying that would be. A Six-Shooter Incendiary Hand Cannon with Infinite Ammo.

    Tbh fitting the whole Chroma Conclave arc in one season would be a challenge. For one, it is around 45 episodes of around 4 hours each. That's A LOT of content to fit in. 🤯
    But honestly what I think they'll do is either to split the arc into two seasons or have a 24 episode season. It's just impossible to fit everything in 12 episodes.
    In addition, the Chroma Conclave arc pretty much explores the other members outside of Percy. Grog in particular has an AMAZING mini-arc (the Kevdak arc).

    I'm gonna add another change from C1 to the animated series.
    Spoilers Ahead, Campaign 1
    In the campaign, Vox Machina actually had to fight the smoke demon, whose name is Orthax. It wasn't until after taking him down that Scanlan was able to "sleight of hand" the Pepperbox away from Percy, and throw it into the acid.

    • @m.jasondoty9062
      @m.jasondoty9062 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Scanlan didn't sleight of hand it; he cast friends, convinced Percy to give him the List, tossed it into the acid, turned to the group with a panicked look and said, Whenthespellwearsoffhe'sgonnabesuperpissed; someoneprotectme!"

      These changes through make sense, what happened in the campaign 100% great for DnD even when you focus on one chars backstory never make the other chars feel pointless... and yet for TV 100% the right choice, I love it because it shows once again they understand the mediums are different and this change makes more sense

      @@andyme3541 : Agreed. While I am an adaptation purist, if you will, I do understand that they had to take almost 500 hours of streaming content and condense it down to 30 minute episodes. It does make it hard to include everything of value or worth, story-wise. I mean, they left Trinket in Greyskull Keep back in Emon, yet in the campaign, Trinket went everywhere that Vex did, because pardon the pun, she couldn't bear to leave Trinket behind.
      Which is why Scanlon tried to kill Trinket so often, and why that became a running joke.
      Point is, there was, even with all of the condensing down, way too much material to include for only one season. They even left out the original Vasselheim arc after Kraghammer, where Mary Elizabeth McGlynn's character Zahra killed a white dragon, and Vax killed Hotus, the rakshasa.

    • @ForeverDegenerate
      @ForeverDegenerate 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@isaiahwelch8066 I think the plot decisions had less to do with too much material and more to do with they didn't want to have to deal with adapting plot around Tiberius Stormwind because there's absolutely no way they would have included him in any adaptation and there's no way they could have any arc prior to the Briarwood Arc justice without him. Also, let's be honest, if you're going to use any Arc in Vox Machina to introduce the Non-Critters of the World to Critical Role, it has to be The Briarwood Arc. No question. And they knew that.

    If, by any chance, you are into checking out the original campaign, here is a more or less "completionist" set of videos to binge in your spare time (when you are not busy with creating your amazing content or your other responsibilities) - you might need to bookmark those or copy somewhere into your notes:
    th-cam.com/video/DYBM3myR914/w-d-xo.html
    "Exandria: An Intimate History" is a short 10-minute video that serves as the definitive chronological reference for the in-game universe of Critical Role campaigns and the works of fiction associated with it. It also provides a glimpse of the Exandrian cosmology, theology, history, geography and political structure of the world in which the characters go on their adventures.
    th-cam.com/play/PLQRE5geahRYYCgnbidlk-XVIPaob7P2-x.html
    Campaign 1 (Vox Machina), with the obligatory inclusion of chronologically relevant one-shot game sessions featuring familiar characters, discussion panels from various conventions etc. (the Briarwoods arc starts at ep. 24, if you want that specific section).
    Be advised on the following issues:
    - the first episodes of the show have blurred character intros (fair use technicalities). In the first episodes they didn't have their own official illustrator, so used reference pictures off the internet. Unfortunately, the Geek & Sundry overlay covered the names of the artists, and it appeared as if CR didn't give them credit where credit was due, so those artists threatened to sue CR for copyright infringement. While the issue resolved itself later, with both the onboarding of Kit Buss and tons of fan art pouring in, in these earlier episodes the intro artwork is blurred out. A version of character intros with visuals is available at: th-cam.com/video/_b1oZmPrpDg/w-d-xo.html
    - audio issues in the first 4 episodes. Viewers are strongly advised against using headphones to prevent eardrum damage. Closed captions provided with the video can help alleviate the problem.
    - one member of the original cast left the show after ep. 26 of the campaign and is no longer involved in anything related to Critical Role. For this reason, his character never appears in the animated series (as it's his, not CR's, intellectual property). While most of the drama regarding said player happened behind the scenes, it still hurt the community. The details about the incident are googleable, however, proceed with caution.
    th-cam.com/play/PLX5UqtXlg76n7cwlGrJsQNAI9oU_6g7ej.html
    Campaign 2 (The Mighty Nein) - same world, about 20 years later, new adventuring party.
    th-cam.com/play/PL1tiwbzkOjQzSnYHVT8X4pyMIbSX3i4gz.html
    Exandria Unlimited - a "filler" mini-campaign between C2 and C3, featuring Aabria Iyengar as the DM and Matt Mercer as one of the players.
    th-cam.com/play/PL1tiwbzkOjQydg3QOkBLG9OYqWJ0dwlxF.html
    Campaign 3 - current; ongoing; updated weekly; includes lots of spoilers for and cross-references with C1.

When new reactors hear Ghost Love Score for the first time, a member of the "Nightwish Army" does something similar to what you did for The Legend of Vox Machina -- giving every new reactor and listener a "Must Watch" list of live performances, and how to find those performances by linking them in a comment similar to yours. Sadly, the original "Den Mother" of the Nightwish Army, whose knowledge was encyclopedic about Nightwish, died a few years ago, and it was thought fit someone carry on in her honor and memory. In essence, I see what you've done is similar in nature, and since you did the hard work of linking all of the various videos, I find it fitting to dub you, Steel Angel, the "Den Mother" of new Critters everywhere, when they join the Critter family.

      Don't they only have one more season confirmed? I'm sure they are hoping for more seasons but I'd imagine they'd have to write S2 to conclude somehow that would be satisfying in case they don't get more. While the conclave could easily provide for multiple seasons I'm expecting the arc to be heavily abridged.

    • @Fsudryden
      @Fsudryden 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@troikas3353 With the critical and fan response to the first season I do not see why Amazon would not do a multiple season order very soon. Once the first season of animation is over the price drops afterward. Therefore they are getting a very popular show for less money. The initial money they normally would have had to spend to get the project off the ground was paid for by the fans. Not to mention the sheer amount of content already created and ready to go. For all three reasons I think they will pick up the show for a lot more seasons.

    • @troikas3353
      @troikas3353 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fsudryden That initial chunk came from the crowd funding sure but there's no way that was the bulk of season 1's cost. I'd wager it was probably 1/3rd or less of the shows actual final budget. Then there's also the fact that streaming services only really make these shows to garner subs; after a season or two anyone that might have subbed for a specific show likely already has, and research has shown a lot of people tend to not cancel their subs once subscribed, so these streamers will then just cancel the show that won't get them many more subs and move on to new ones that will.
      This is why even critically lauded shows will suddenly get the axe. As things stand streamers just aren't generally incentivized to prolong the longevity of their shows. Unless it's some big flagship show like the LotR project, there's no guarantee this thing will continue regardless of the fan response. Honestly while I'd love a whole seven season run complete with a big budget increases because of tons of unexpected fan love; I kinda think they'll be lucky to get three full seasons.

There's actually more than one major spoiler in there, obviously the one I mentioned before, but they also go to the library at some point for the 27th time in C2E88: Unwanted Reunions (4:07:52) and find out some info about a certain former member of the Assembly who was also in C1 and a Dr and there are some big spoilers in there as well about future events. They mention a certain list and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put pieces together.
      In just cross talk around the table I'm almost certain they spoil a certain tragedy at the end of the campaign as well involving Ravens, though I cannot remember when. And actually they spoil the fate of another beloved NPC who's favorite color is purple several times while just chatting to each other lol. And a few other things. Like Liam's trust forever being broken by the old switcharoo Matt pulled in the tower.
