    When Orthax (the demon) is in control the gun becomes magical and Orthax manifests bullets in the gun that is why it didn't need to be reloaded or ever misfires in that mode.
    Also just as a heads up Brimsythe (the blue dragon from ep 1-2) was just a young adult, the 4 approaching Imon are all ancient dragons meaning they are the biggest and most powerful.
    While many of the characters have a crush on vex, the moment between Keyleth and vex at the end was was more "wow the person I want to be like and admire most is being cool to me for the first time" (confirmed by marisha during the cast watch along)

    All of the characters will be given their moments to grow, including Scanlan and Grog. That is one of the great things about Matt Mercer as a Game Master is that he lets the characters and their backstories drive a lot of the narrative. Every piece of the story he wants to tell incorporates his players' characters so that they can tell the story with him. As far as what to expect for season 2, the next arc of the campaign is the Chroma Conclave arc (aka the Dragons). They could easily stretch that for two or three seasons, if Amazon is willing, without feeling it is dragging. After that, the original D&D campaign circles back to deal with a lingering thread that needs to be pulled. I won't say more so that I don't spoil anything. I'm glad we have new Critters in the community. It is an incredible journey ahead.

      Maybe they can just make next season more episodes though doubtful they do that but would be cool to have them add more if it’s what the story needs instead of stretching it to two seasons. Maybe they could do it in 18 episodes next season. Not conventional, but there’s no rule against it 🙂🤗

      @Fairburne69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 It's my understanding that the 2nd season is already assigned 12 episodes. Not sure they can change it but I do like your thinking.
      The original Vox Machina campaign if you only count what was streamed was 115 episodes. The Briarwood Arc was 15 of those episodes. The TV show essentially cut it to 10 since the first 2 episodes were pre streamed. The Chroma Conclave arc was 46 episodes. If they use a similar ratio you could easily get 3 seasons of 12 episodes each for that arc.
      Makes me wonder if Critical Role and Amazon might be in negotiations. If they can get seasons 3 and 4 approved ahead of time it my impact how they tell the story. If they only get 1 more season they may have to condense the story a LOT. I suppose they could also run another Kickstarter if they needed more money and amazon wasn't willing.

The Chrima Conclave arc was 45-50 episodes long. So the content of this arc could last multiple seasons. If someone else were to kill Delilah before Percy broke free, it wouldn't end the curse because Anna Ripley is still alive. It would have just made Vox Machina enemies that stole his kill and add their names to his list (because it would interpret that as them "betraying" his trust) It was important that Percy break away by his own will.

But IIRC, they weren't as powerful as The List was. So he was permanently... shot in the foot power-wise so to speak when Scanlan threw The List into acid.

    Fun facts, last time!;
    The demons name is Orthax. In the campaign it was split from Percy and fought alone against the group.
    On Percy's gun, The List; his original weapon had 6 barrels, with 5 names. He scratches two of them off earlier, and Casandra's name also appeared on it. There was much speculation on who the 6th, unnamed barrel was for, until it was revealed post campaign by Matt that had Percy killed 1 more person, his soul would have been consumed by the demon entirely and if he'd removed all the names on the gun, then 6 more names would have appeared in their place, repeating the endless cycle of vengeance. Taliesin, Percys actor, didn't know this beforehand, but came to the same conclusion on what would happen independently of Matt. The gun was also enchanted and two of its barrels could do fire and ice damage respectively. And yes, Scanlan threw it in the acid almost on a whim. Percy was still annoyed about the expense even after Orthax bubbled up to the surface afterwards.
    We saw during the prison break when Percy confronted his first target that The List could be fired without reloading, when he made that first kill he actually fired 7 rounds. The assumption is that Orthax conjures more bullets, but only when he's going after names on The List, otherwise Percy has to reload normally.
    Keyleths teleport spell, Transport Via Plants, is a 6th level druid spell, and after losing the character of Tiberius earlier in the campaign, becomes the groups only means of long distance teleportation. Keyleth is herby the groups designated driver, and you'll probably be seeing this spell a lot. It's an absolutely vital ability.

    • @DefinitelyNotDefinitive2

    What I love about the inner world Percy sees has the demons eyes in the sky, one looks to me has a slight redder tint to it. The world they live in Exandria has two moons, Catha and Ruidus. With the latter being known as the red moon. Which is actually the subject of campaign 3.

    THAT CLIFFHANGER IS OFFENSIVE
    Orthax's design was so cool and I am so happy with it!
    The actual moment in-game when Scanlan threw the gun into the acid was somehow even funnier, because Percy's player was genuinely angry since it was so expensive and he would never be able to remake a gun as good as that one (he gets others tho). Also it was even more of a guess, because in the show we see Orthax getting back inside the gun, but in the campaign Scanlan's player could have been completely wrong about that and still went through with destroying it.
    In the cartoon, my favorite might be Keyleth, I think she was really well written and was super charming as a character to me.

    There's a lot to unpack with this episode starting with the massive glow up the Orthax (Percy's demon) fight got. They took full advantage of the medium and made the fight much more memorable in the animated series.
    Now for some fun tidbits: Percy is left handed so whenever he was shooting right handed Orthax was in control and whenever Orthax was in control the gun magically created bullets (this is hinted early but you'd have to have been counting bullets throughout the show to catch it).
    Next up Grey Griffin, Delilha's voice actor, explained that she approached the character in the finale as just wanting to die so Delilha was saying the worse things she could think of just to force Vox Machina to "put her out of her misery".
    And with the orb of death scene that almost happened to Keyleth in the campaign. She got curious about it while everyone was resting after the fight and almost got sucked into it. She barely got away and it would have been the end of her character if she hadn't. It would have led to some interesting ramifications later on but that'll come up much later down the line.
    Loved both of your reactions to this series. As a Criter for the last 5 years it was wonderful to see a reaction from people that didn't know anything about the source material. I dont know if it is going to be “canon” in the animated series but in the actual campaign one of the things that happened in a private home game before they started streaming was they fought a demon that had enslaved children. It had Literally chained the child slaves to himself and during the fight Keyleth made a mistake that killed one of the kids. Its why her self doubt is so strong in the briarwood arc where she second guesses her choices a lot.
    They may retcon that for the series and just have her be struggling with general self doubt on its own. Dont know yet. But it was a pretty important event in her original character arc.

      In campaign Percy got the magic-initiate: warlock feat to supplement his otherwise non-magical gunslinger (homebrewed fighter) with some low level spells as a sign of his growing dark powers under the demonic influence - similar to how warlocks, who have pacts with fiends, work.
      Since you can't really lose feats in tabletop (unless the DM homebrews it somehow), he could use that magic even after being freed from Orthax (the demon). I assume that's what the residuum's purpose will be in the series.

    If you try to track the rules for The Pepperbox, you find inconsistencies in how functions. Not because of sloppy writing. But because Percy's gun is a lie.
    The Pepperbox isn't just a mechanical wonder. It is a magic item forged through the combined efforts of Percy's engineering and the Demon Orthax's guidance (see Ripley for what happens when you get designs wrong). The gun is a totem of an unwritten pact between Percy and Orthax. And it is a lie. It functions according to serve Orthax's goals. The gun is used to harvest souls. But it also serves to corrupt Percy's soul - something that Fiends like Demons and Devils take delight in. Ammunition is a trifling concern. The List is a lie and subject to change at whim.
    When Orthax is exposed, it makes an attempt at finalizing Percy's corruption. It goads him in to turning his gun on his friends. But when Percy resists, Orthax switches back to the one target that would be most easy - the one individual Percy would be most justified and most desire killing. And when Percy chooses self-harm rather than even that kill, Orthax knows it has over-extended. So it feigns defeat. Because Orthax is a deceiver.
    The Pepperbox is a lie. With a "defeated" Orthax lying in wait... use of it would have put Percy back on the path of corruption. Where Orthax would begin anew. Except an agent of chaos scoops up that totem and tosses it in acid; destroying the lie and severing the link between Orthax and Percy.

    Don’t get too used to Pikes power level.

    • @ForeverDegenerate
      @ForeverDegenerate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Guardian of the Gameshop Actually it IS said outright. The Priestess helping Pike at the Temple tells her that the Chamber that she's attempting to commune with Sarenrae in is a Focusing Chamber that "channels more power than a single person can handle." Since Pike is in that Chamber when she makes her choice, Sarenrae uses that Chamber to initiate Astral Projection, sending Pike's Astral Form to Whitestone and amplifying her power. This is also why, while she's Astral Projecting, Pike never runs out of Spell Slots. Basically, due to the Focusing Chamber, Pike becomes, temporarily, an Avatar of Sarenrae. It's interesting how many people don't realize that Pike is in a Focusing Chamber at a Temple of Sarenrae despite it being said outright.

      Not so much spoilers as it is just background info from the stream, the roles of some of the townspeople like Archie were changed a lot, there were some small arcs between the Briarwoods and the 4 dragons at the end, and originally Vex was actually hit with Delilah's spell without someone getting in the way, which still caused Vax to freak out, but it was a little easier to fix than Keyleth getting hit. I think this was also a slight hint to what the original bargain was, the one alluded to when Scanlan asked about the 6th barrel. Especially since it's during Orthax's speech talking about feasting on souls. I still imagine the original deal was to kill the Briarwoods and their associates. And completing "The List" would lead to one of two outcomes, either through grief Percy takes his own life at the monster he's become and feed his soul to Orthax with him needing to call to a new pawn to continue the cycle, or Percy would continue on giving souls to Orthax by adding name after name onto the gun to stave off his own end. Although Orthax stopping Percy to kill himself a second ago I can't explain, the only thing I can think of is it being a "state of mind" thing. Plus the list technically wasn't completed at that point. Could also just him playing coy thinking Percy could have an "escape" making him THINK the demon was gone but then continue to use the gun considering that's almost what happens if it wasn't for Scanlan.

    Well, if you cannot wait for the continuation, it's all out as Vox Machina, Campaign 1! th-cam.com/play/PL1tiwbzkOjQz7D0l_eLJGAISVtcL7oRu_.html
    Season 1 jumps over the initial 2 "Chapters" of the Campaign, and starts it's story in around episode 24 and continues on to episode 39 (Referred to as the Briarwood Arc after the fact by the Critters)
    To shorten down the vast story of events in those 15 episodes, totaling about 52 odd hours of playtime down to 10 episodes of about 4 hours total is a daunting task but Critical Role and Amazon has succeeded in keeping it very faithful! (I say 10 episodes and not 12 since the 2 first ones are based on events that took place before the streaming began)
    Personally however, I would not skip those earlier episodes, as they contain so much more than the Cartoon provided, glorious more details and Character interactions!

    I'll gave it a rewatch + your reactions and thoughts, so that i am ready for season 2
    The power of forgivness comes from within. And anyone who is not of of their minds, would not grant Delilah mercy because she does not deserve it.
    But it is in the nature of mercy that it is undeserved... = "undeserved favor" by definition, just as you can only be brave when you do something you are afraid of. "Forgiveness" is completely wrongly defined by many, regardless of their own moral compass. I don't like what she did, but i respect it.
    Just like Percy, Lady Briarwood is in league with a dark force beyond Exandria's mortal realm in The Legend of Vox Machina season 1. Unlike Percy, she's fully conscious of the deal she made - in exchange for resurrecting her husband, Delilah has promised to help bring forth the Whispered One from wherever he currently dwells. This ritual apparently should've coincided with the solstice, but Vox Machina's heroics force Delilah to begin ahead of schedule. The Whispered One appears very briefly, but all that's left behind after the summoning is what Scanlan calls a "spinning orb of death," which negates magic within a certain radius, obliterates whatever it touches, and mystifies everyone.
    Though getting close certainly isn't advisable, the orb just sits there happily vacuuming up magical energy, so is unlikely to be a weapon or enemy in its own right. The Spinning Orb of Death only appeared after the Whispered One flickered into existence, and we know this fabled spirit instructed Delilah and Sylas to seize Whitestone for both the Ziggurat, and the magical-amplifying stone known as residuum which surrounds it. Perhaps if Delilah's ritual had been completed at the appointed time, the Ziggurat could've returned the Whispered One there and then. Because the summoning took place too early, the Spinning Orb of Death might've been left as some kind of doorway to be activated in the future. Keeper Yennen certainly thinks so, telling Scanlan she believes the artifact is connected to "something beyond the veil."

    It might have been Percy's intent to off himself after his vengeance was over, but that was never Orthax' intent. The cycle of vengeance would continue, The List passing from person to person, wrong to wrong, feeding the demon for eternity.
    Percy has shot more than 6 times before (in the prison and fighting Professor Anders) - this isn't a continuity error: it's a manifestation that Orthax doesn't need bullets ... SPOILER
    ... The List is only a focus of the demon's connection to the wielder.
