    Can't believe dashcams don't come installed as standard even in 2024!

    Spot on. Easy to follow video. For anyone else following this, I used the Nextbase hardwire kit on a W176 (2017) model and found that fuse 65 (Glovebox) worked for me (although you'll need to manipulate the wire on the Nextbase kit to make it fit properly).

    Great video thanks. Just swapped my NextBase dash cam over to the 2017 Mercedes A-Class I’ve just bought. Everything went perfectly and it was useful to know which panels to remove and where to find the fuse box. Done in half an hour 👍🏼😁

      Try the fuse for central locking, that will be a constant live.

    Thanks to sharing mate very thorough. I’ll be doing this with a “TOGUARD” one which will be using parking mode which will require a constant power source and I’ll order a hardwire kit. Do you have any advice on which fuse to select? I’ll be looking at the fuse diagram but any advice would be appreciated (I do gather you advise against ABS or any of the really important stuff). Advice on a suitable constant fuse which would be the least risky would be much appreciated.
    Thanks and all the best 👏👏

      Try the one for central locking as that's live all the time.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of these have power adjust seats,this is a constant live fuse and ideal for the constant live needed on a parking mode camera.
      Refer to owners manual for which one is relevant to your car model.

    Can you show best way to route the cable when using 12V adapter thing? I’d rather not hardwire it to fuse box.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your best bet would be to follow the guide as far down as the fuse box and then carry on under the dashboard with maybe using some small cable ties to hold the cable up and out of the way until you get to the center console. At this point the cable could be tucked under the edge where the center console meets the carpet and them just leave enough cable to still come up to the 12v socket in your car.

    Last question.... how did you get the 13mm bolt out of the dashboard? Mine’s stuck right!

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they can be a pain,the bonding glue from the trim can get on the threads when the car is built and so makes them stick,try a ratchet spanner with angle head adjustment.

    Hi. What wire did you use for the fuse connector? I have a mini one but that doesn't go into the fuse slot you used because the fuse is bigger? Do u have an Amazon link or smin?

      Fuse spurs come in a few sizes,if your fuses have the blades close together then it's a micro fuse spur you need. EG - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10a-amp-MICRO-Piggy-Fuse-Tap-Car-Audio-Quick-Ignition-Live-Splice-Add-Circuit/183460151898?epid=26024342424&hash=item2ab713c25a:g:myUAAOSwa5lbr5c2

    The 70mai PRO camera have the parking option that records any movement after 20min, for this it must be powered always to the battery?
    I have a A Class 2017 with stock rear camera, it's easier?
    Also, on left handed steer, it's all in the left site?
    Thank you!

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you camera has a red power wire and a yellow power wire? If so one will be for ignition switched and the other will be for constant power (to the battery).
      You should also have a black wire for the earth connection.

    Cabling for dash cam should be installed as a standard in each car by manufacturers. Dash cams are with us what 20-30 years already? It is just lazy ignorance from car makers.

      its not lazy, its supply demand. not every person wants one. don't be stupid.

    Why did you change to a ring terminal instead of the original?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The original terminals can be a bit flimsy so I change every one I do just to be sure.

    Great video and useful tips, but where I am struggling on my installation is trying to find a switchable fuse on my E220 (2017) I have tried with a meter but they all seem to be live in the passenger footwell. I have looked at the fuse box cover and in the manual but no help on which one to use. I'm hoping someone can give me a pointer on a fuse I could try otherwise it's either the cigar lighter option or look at trying to get to the engine fuse box. Thanks in advance.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neil Bennett A lot of them are sadly like that. You should find another fuse box at the side of the boot(depending on region) the secondary fusebox will have a switched live but it also means running a power cable the length of the car.

    • @1ninjatiger
      @1ninjatiger 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just went with the 20 in the dashboard fuses. It worked in two previous cars and works in this one. Only issue I have is I have a battery pack for parking mode - this switches on and off if eco mode (engine start stop) is on. I therefore always have to remember to hit the button and turn this off every journey. Other than that all good.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The headliner is just a sort of card/fiber trim and so with care it can be gently eased down from the edge at the top of the windowscreen,just enough to pop the cable under it.

  • @iSmileFX
    @iSmileFX 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    can you tell me how to go behind the centre console? I want to wire something from drivers footwell to the fusebox but can get the wire through? any assistance. A class

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best way I have found is to go behind the center console flash with the carpet. I use fiber glass flex rod with the cable taped to the end and push it through but you could use something like thick solder to do the same trick.

    • @iSmileFX
      @iSmileFX 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      so you reccomend i just go in passenger footwell? And lift the carpet and use a flex rod up near the plastic kick casing and push it through? is there even a gap you can see would be available
