  • This new version of Renderman is pretty good and blazing fast with the new XPU Render and Denoiser!
I don't really know it, but I wanted to show it to you ;)
So, this isn't a good tutorial, more a preview.

Thanks so much for testing this out! I've been wondering if I'm missing out, but from what I can see, it's not worth reverting back to Blender 3.0 missing out on all the new Blender updates just for a bit nicer and faster renders compared to cycles. Not to mention the learning curve. Thanks for diving in!

Renderman makes the renders look perfectly detailed, great work!

Here's a quick tip not many people know about setting the DOF distance. It will save you from having to add an empty and snap it to an object to get a precise value. Press 0 to Look through your camera and go into the camera settings. Hover your mouse over the "distance" slider in the Depth of field panel and press "E" You'll see that your cursor changes to an eyedropper tool. Now you can click and hold the left mouse down and drag your cursor over any object you can see in your view. As you drag your cursor around you'll see a little tooltip under the eyedropper that gives you a precise numerical distance to that particular surface. Let go of the mouse and your distance value gets set for you.
Make sure you are looking through your camera though, or it won't work.
This is much faster than having to mess around with snapping empties to a particular surface. No idea if it works in Renderman but it definitely works in Blender. Have fun.

Perhaps you can help me good sir. I’m messing around with Blender and Renderman 25 on a CPU since I don’t have a GPU. I can’t get the denoiser to work. I did the same thing like in this video by sending it to IT and enabling denoising but at the end it comes back with an error like “no CUDA detected.” Does the Renderman require a GPU for denoising? Or am I doing something wrong?

@@garymcderp1146 I can't help with that one I'm afraid. That was a Blender specific tip for setting an exact focus point. I've never actuallty used Renderman myself.

Thanks, interesting. Not many videos about this renderer. Unfortunately it's not available for Max, which is what I use, so I'm considering studying Blender a bit more, to give it a try. Are you still using it? And do you still like it? Would love to see a follow up video as like I said, nobody has uploaded any new recent video about it (afaik) so we're out in the dark about it.

How can I modify the exposure on each camera in Renderman? “Shutter speed” and “Fstop” only affect the depth of field and motion blur, but do not modify the lighting. I need to have each camera with its own exposure settings

This is a bit misleading. The denoiser available in Renderman's IT (render window) is just Nvidia OptiX and it's meant for previews. The new AI Denoiser (Disney) is available only when rendering to disk or by using "denoiser" application (via command line or using its UI version) later on rendered EXR files.

@@mazashayeri1411 As I said in the video, it's Pixar Renderman, better shaders and actually everything.
But, only on blender 3.0 and some freezes when editing views.
Maybe too complicated for beginners because there are many parameters.
Cycles is perfect for blender IMO, fast and easy to use.
So it depends on what you want to achieve with your renders.
I will keep playing with renderman to see what I can do with it.
It's a great addition to blender IMO!
