Important: Please understand that the following movements are based on my experience with weaponry and I am not formally trained in Tongan or any Polynesian martial arts. There currently aren't any video examples of Tongan martial arts being practiced and shown in public.

Right on... 20 years of TH-cam and we finally get a video on a 2 handed Tongan war club.
Thanks! Honestly, I'm rather surprised that there's currently no video examples out there on any Tongan warrior arts. Even Hawaiian martial arts have quite a few videos out now. But as long as there's interest, I'd be happy to make more tutorials like this. Thanks for your support! ^_^

That is a fierce looking weapon!
Looks like a Maori Taiaha with the bladed tongue at the end of the Pommel removed.
Could probably use it the same way, it will just bludgeon more than stab.
I guess so but I've never held a taiaha. I do know they're longer than these clubs.
I am a long time practitioner of kobudo okinawan/Japanese, over 4 decades, and I've always been impressed with the war club weapon platforms of Tonga and Hawaiian Lua. I am grateful i some how came across this channel.

@@1stSpear, please excuse my ignorance... I should have researched you a bit more. I am in Florida. Next time I am on the west coast I will definitely make the attempt to come see you. One of my Teachers Professor Feliciano ‘Kimo’ Ferreira, recently passed, was very instrumental in sharing his knowledge of Lua and the Island Arts. I wish I had been able to learn more from him. We worked mostly on Kempo and never seemed to have time for weapons. Thank you for communicating with me, i am sure you are quite busy. Best Regards Wes Brown

Have you used a taiaha before? Or a pouwhenua? Very awesome māori weapons from nz
No but brudda, I've been wanting to get my hands on one. Seems very difficult (and expensive) to get one over to the US. There are some non-Maori craftsmen that make it here but I'd rather have an authentic one from NZ. One day when I'm able to afford a trip to NZ I'm hoping to get one and bring it home. But I keep hearing it's difficult.
So if you know or hear of a source, where one like myself can purchase a proper Maori taiaha I would really appreciate it. ^_^

is there a reason why u use a Akau Tau? this is interesting because I'm Tongan n always wondered how my ancestors would've used it..
I was mainly interested on my friend's craftsmanship and was curious how one might wield such a weapon.
I initially asked him if he could make a polymer taiaha but he didn't have enough material for the proper length but he happens to have made one of these so I snagged one. ^_^
I thought it was a bit uncanny that I saw you posted a video with one after I asked Vulpes to make two for my brother and I. I was curious how to use it most effectively, and found PTK interesting. I’ve been training with Gary in FC off and on ever since. I’d love to train together someday since you have one.

It's just a look I fell into few years ago. That along with my mohawk became my trademark appearance.
