High School Beats!??? Yes. This is what the DCI/WGI kids of the 80's, 90's and 00's have been doing with their adult lives. Teaching middle and high school kids how to play and march. This is part of the reason that DCI continues to shrink. HS bands are now very time intensive and good enough in training and programs that the summer DCI experience isn't really required or even wanted. The hardcore kids will still march but the difference between DCI and BOA/MFA is only the time of year and a few reeds.
BOA doesnt represent any band program, they only provide a venue for programs to represent themself. they also provide a ton of learning experiences for individual students and directors. heck they even let new directors attend some of them for free. the cost to compete in a regional is about the same as any other competition but the judging is a little more strict and the competition is much more fierce. i have seen plenty of bands that definitely do not have a big budget compete and do well in BOA events. i dont know if you have been to or competed in a BOA event but i would urge you to go to one or pay close attention at the next one you attend. EVERY band gets the same exposure and representation from BOA . im not griping at you i just wanted to clarify that
Uhhhhhhhh.... while I agree some percussion programs in BOA are becoming very competitive, there is still a colossal difference between MFA and the DCI/WGI activities. Especially if you’re looking at world class drum corps or world class independent groups, they are still pushing the envelope in terms of show design, visual, and musical achievement. Also, I’d like to see concrete numbers to your claim that DCI is shrinking, because last I checked there are more corps now between world and open class than ever before, and DCI has never been more well known even to those who haven’t marched it.
This is really good. It’s unfortunate that some schools have drum lines this good but their band is total complete shit or too small. I know kids from schools where they’re absolutely really good players and are already in world class corps but their band get scored like shit all the time cause their band eats shit every time. (clarifying that I’m not calling this school bad, I’m referring to other schools) Legit in my circuit I literally had our band score last in everything but we got 2nd in Percussion lmao
I got to see their show and it was my absolute favorite thing ever
Uniform's are sooooooooooooo lit whatttt
