The European Beewolf is one of the largest solitary wasps in the UK. They hunt for honeybees to provide their young with sustenance.

I was blown away when she picked up the bee and flew with it to her nest, what power.
You should see the Cicada Killer Wasp, they have to really struggle to get their babies food to the nest!

I appreciate that this wasp doesn’t make a gruesome scene out of the bee’s death, unlike some other species…
Nature is cruel. Of course we can’t judge animals like humans. I can’t remember where but I read some animals eat other animals alive cause they can’t wait and if they wait some bigger animal takes their food. Another reason is that some predators don’t have the ability to take down prey the same way like a big cat can. I think other times they’re inexperience.

Well, at least the Beewolf wasp only kills a bee one at a time for food. Unlike the Giant Asian Hornets which can decimate a whole hive just for the hell of it.
They only do that in the fall when they need a lot of food. So they raid bee/wasp nests for the larvae.

These look merciful, compared to parasitoid wasps.
*Not* even social wasps are evil. It's is just nature and instinct. Without any kind of wasp, our ecosystem would be overrun by other insects and collapse. Social wasps (yellowjackets) are just attracted to sugary produce at the end of their productive cycle (late summer/early autumn) and are more aggressive and quick to defend themselves if they feel *in any way* provoked. The advance of theme parks/BBQ/fast food (especially in the UK) has made them more present to the general public as the food/drink on offer attracts them. Solitary wasps act the way they do to reproduce and continue their cycle, not matter how horrific and unfair it looks like to us or their victims.
Not evil. They gotta eat.

I think that the prey of wasps is not precisely dead, more like it is in suspended animation--alive enough to fee the wasp larvae. Generally the larvae eat the non-essential parts of their prey until they are mostly grown, and only finish off the prey when nearing becoming a pupae.

I love how I myself can get to around any sort of bee as soon as i reach less than 100m within their peripherical reach without them noticing me but when it's another bee, they're fucking stupid as heck.

The Bee is not dead, however is it paralyzed. Something like nature’s refrigerator. The wasp wants to keep it fresh as long it can.
no that bee is 100% dead. These ones don't paralyse they kill. They cover the dead bees in an anti-fungal agent that they produce to keep them fresh. We were going to do a whole thing about it but couldn't get the footage.
