I love this cartoon more than any other with the sentimental innocents and nostalgia. Thank You for the Post! I would love to hear Max Fleisher talk about this cartoon and what the other animators had to say about it. Absolutely Beautiful 💖
1:38 I love this part so much. The way the song “Sidewalks of New York” was played is perfect. Too bad I can’t find the whole song played exactly like this. Every time I think of this song, I hum it like this version.
It was the Depression and many people wanted to go back in their minds to an easier (or what they may have thought) was an easier time in history (in this case 1880s/90s)
Seeing as the couple were in their teens (Presumably 16-19) in 1883, I'd say they were born sometime during or after the Civil War. Since this cartoon came out in 1935 that would put them in their late 60s to early 70s.
It's kind of ironic that in this cartoon they are reliving the past when you wouldn't think you could go any further into the past than this cartoon itself!😁
Color Classic, no. Masterwork? Yes. Only Disney could match the Fleischer Brothers' works of the 1920's and 30's, concluding with "Mr. Bug Goes to Town" in 1941.

I think Mr. Fleisher did this one for his mom and dad
Maybe he did it for his mom and dad I don’t know but it’s just a reminder of the ones we had to love
This is the first memory I ever had, watching this. :) I remember feeling melancholic, happy yet sad. Been looking for this for 23 years, thank you.
Something innocent and nostalgic about vintage animation..good post.
I think the creator did this for his mom and dad for many years of being married it’s really adorable I guess
I wish modern cartoons had the same charm
FANTASTIC! BRAVO to Fleischer & Co.!
a real sweet cartoon thank you for the posting
🤗I'm thankful to be an 80s baby but still love these cute cartoons❤
A cartoon from an ancient time depicting an ever older time.

There's a 1928 record of the song that sounds quite similar
