Thanks for the memories!! Just finished watching your Rt. 66 videos and they were great. My husband and I took that trip we think in 1965, trying to remember. We had a 1959 Chevy Impala convertible and drove from Illinois where we lived to California. We had a 8mm movie camera🤦♀️ and thank goodness we had the movies transferred to VHS tapes many years ago! Who has a VHS player anymore 🤷♀️ Anyway thank you so much and will watch the rest of your trips soon! We are celebrating our 60th anniversary in Aug. with a Montana,Idaho, Utah and Colorado road trip and are so looking forward to that for sure! 🙏 and safe travels to you
I love road trips and want to do Route 66 one day. I live in CA so thought it might be a good couple day road trip out and back. Thanks for your post. I’m more inspired than ever
Thank you for the nice comments and for watching! It was definitely a terrific experience and one I recommend highly! I especially enoyed the eastern half of of California and most of Arizona!
I took the trip back in 1968 from St. Louis to California. I think they closed 66 the following year. When we went through Route 66 all the way, it was very much alive with thousands of souvenir places all along the way. What an amazing memory!
Love it that you're making these Route 66 videos! You replied to me once before when you were in Eastern Oklahoma and I told you I live in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. I was born 2 miles south of 66 in Springfield, Missouri. I remember riding on old 66 many times as a kid and even up until my early teens. My best friend and I took the trip from Springfield to Carthage, Missouri this May in his SS Camaro after watching your video. He grew up here but has lived in Dallas for decades. His Dad took him on a special 66 trip he never told me about until I sent him your video. We are going to do Joplin to Tulsa this year. I'm in the middle of writing a new song about 66 right now and took a break and saw this video. I've done 66 to Santa Monica but my friend and I will have to finish later as he just took a new IT job with the Bank of America. In the meantime we will enjoy your videos. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you for watching and I’m glad you’re exploring more and more of RT66! What kind of music do you play? I’d love to hear your song when it’s done!
Hello from Puerto Rico , last year I made part of the Route 66 from Kingman, Arizona to Holbrook , it’s amazing, when this pandemia finish I planned to made the complete route , thanks for your excellent videos.
Amazing route 66 series, I also watched your route 89, both are incredible and very interesting. I really love the scenery, and all the various interesting cool places along the way. I'm going to take those drives one day! If you haven't already done it, the drive from Reno NV to Las Vegas is fantastic. The scenery is magnificent and gorgeous. I can't wait to make that drive again!
Thank you! This was the first “road trip” I tried to document, so I felt like I started figuring it out by the end haha. Route 66 is great fun! I’m very curious about Nevada, it had a few trips I’ve heard about. I’ll definitely add that one to my list!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I think you've done a great job with your first documentary! I truly can't wait to be able to make the Route 66 journey. Nevada is beautiful, I really believe you'll enjoy it whenever you can make that trip!!
I finally watched the last segment of this trip. I watched all of the others, but somehow I missed this one. I really enjoyed the whole series. It brought back a lot of memories. When I was about 10 years old, I traveled down route 66 from Texas to California to visit family. That was before the interstate highway. The road was a 2 lane deathtrap in a lot of spots. However, the tourist traps were absolutely the neatest places for a kid. I think we went that way twice. Great memories. Thanks again.
Thank you very much for watching the entire series! It was definitely a great trip and I’ll remember it forever. I can imagine how much fun it would’ve been as a kid - jealous of your experience!
I sincerely enjoyed your videos of this trip. I have seen loads of route 66 videos but I liked the fact that you shared every town with us and also showed several places that the standard travelers and guides do not even mention. Great job!
Thank you! I have also seen a lot of terrific RT66 videos and wanted mine to be different. And I love finding the old downtown areas from small towns because I grew up near places like that. Thanks for watching!
Agreed. You covered several places that are not usually covered. I was searching for Goffs a few months ago and never found it. There is a ghost town called Cadiz somewhere out there in the Mojave, as well.
Thanks for the great video's of your Route 66 trip, I really enjoyed it! We drove the full Route 66 on Harley's in 2015 and 2019, but I have seen some places in your video we have not yet seen, so YES I want to go back :) Thanks from the Netherlands!!!
We've just watched the whole trip from beginning to end. Really enjoyed watching. It was so nice to sit back, watch and remember our trip. We did Route 66 back in 2015 and planned to do it last year but a certain pandemic put paid to that. Ah well, one day we'll go back. We have to, we didn't do Oatman and the Sitgreave Pass!
Thank you so much for watching the videos! Since doing the route and sharing these videos, I have definitely felt a kinship with a lot of new "friends" online. Oatman and Sitgreave Pass were definitely highlights - excited for your trip whenever it can happen!
After seeing your video on the Route 66 Facebook group I decided to watch the entire series. I really enjoyed seeing all the towns again and I loved your drone shots. I finished last year and did the whole route in parts and all by myself so your trip was a good reference and especially comments about being organized. I am from Kansas also and have done some side trips on 66 to explore a little more that a typical trip. Fun videos, nice job!
Thank you! What part of KS are you from? I am definitely excited to get back out there again and do some of those side trips you are talking about too!
A lot of the fiberglass statues placed along Route 66 were made by Dad Bill Swan at international fiberglass along with many other iconic fiberglass statues which are in a short Amazon ebook for only 14.99 on Amazon called "The man behind the mufflerman ".
Thanks! It was a lot of fun to do the entire Route 66! I really didn't have a plan when I started filming, so I think my videos got better as they went. And I really enjoyed the western half from Oklahoma to the eastern part of Cali the best.
Just watched your whole route 66 series in preparation for my own trip and it was so helpful! It's been overwhelming planning where I want to stop but I've gotten so many great recommendations from your videos. Thanks for sharing and happy travels :)
Thank you very much! That was such a memorable trip, I’m excited for yours! Prepare a little and be ready for things to change. Hang in there and by the end you’ll have an epic adventure!
Beautiful driving scenery. WigWam was really nice unique lodging for the night. The beach/sunset was beyond description. Really impressive part of Route 66. City's just city's what can you say? 🙂🤔
100%! The eastern part of Cali is so different from the western half through LA. You can tell which part I liked the most haha. But the beach was a wonderful way to end 😊
Love this!! From the age of 10 to my late 20s I lived in the Mojave desert. I miss it! You should watch the 1986 film the hitchhiker. The end of the movie takes place in Amboy. Just some fun info. Thanks for sharing all of your travels.
A NICE COVERAGE OF THE LAST 10 MILES OF 66! ALL MY ROUTE 66 VENTURES HAVE BEEN, BITS AND PIECES, NUMEROUS TRIPS, TAKEN OVER A 22 YEAR PERIOD! AS A ROUGH GUESS , MAYBE 95 % OF IT!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy NOT MUCH BETWEEN NEEDLES AND LUDLOW ON EITHER 1-40 OR 66! TOO BAD SO MANY PLACES WENT BUST AFTER 40 BUILT!! DID YOU COME OVER OATMAN PASS IN ARIZONA??
Thank you very much for these awesome series of videos. They inspired me to do the trip myself on My own. I will start in Texas and go west. East bound will be for another time. I am from Belgium, Europe, so I will be renting a car. I also have a drone. Is it easy to buy gas in the small towns ? Thanks again for the wonderful videos.
Haha! No worries, thank you for watching til the end :) Amboy is definitely an interesting place. Would love to go back and spend some more time there and explore every inch of the place!
@@TravelwithaWiseguyyou should! Back in the 90s my parents and I went through there. We stopped in Roy's town at the diner. The bathroom was just a creepy as the movie 😰😂
A couple of comments on California .. you missed the communities of South Pasadena and Alhambra (which 66 just barely touches on its original alignment) and Hollywood is a part of Los Angeles, not a separate city. Unfortunately, there is just SOOOO much to see along 66 in Los Angeles County that it can become daunting. With 100 or so National Register Landmarks within the Route 66 corridor in Los Angeles County, finding sights like the Flying A Station in Monrovia, Old Town Pasadena, Gus's Bar-B-Q, Chicken Boy in Highland Park, the Southwest and Heritage Square Museums, and even the original terminus at Broadway and 7th Street in Downtown Los Angeles can just be overwhelming. Hopefully your viewers will have a bit more time to explore that stretch of California's Mother Road, as there is something for everyone in that area regardless of what it is that you are interested in seeing and experiencing!
Thank you for your comments! You are definitely correct about those areas - I did my best to show as many as I could, that's why I put (almost) in the title. Some of them I realized I missed after the trip was over and L.A. has so many stacked on top of each other. I got to L.A. just a few hours before a shutdown went into affect as well - definitely excited to get back and explore more when things are more regular! Thanks for watching and appreciate the comments!
