here's several things for curing kp
Make sure you eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
Make sure you have enough vitamin C
make use of herbs which cleanse the body such as dandelion
Use herbs with infection fighting properties eg dandelion root and burdock and others including huang qi
(I discovered these and the reasons they work on Keelee remedy system site )

I'm a big fan of Paula's Choice as my skin changed after pregnancy. They're changing the name of the Weightless Body Treatment 2% BHA into 2% Body Smoothing Spot Exfoliant if anyone is struggling to find it.

Ms .ReneS I tried like that for 2 days and then realised this is after shower treatment as It says apply to clean skin. So I guess that’s mean after shower. And no need to wash it off. It’s a creamy texture but turns to water when applying.

As always, thank you so much for doing these videos. This is a godsend for people of color. I would really appreciate if you would do a video on the proper way of layering products (especially acids, serums, etc.) and what not to layer together. Also, as a person of color (specifically a black male), I would also appreciate if you would do a video for men who suffer with ingrown hairs, razor bumps and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation from shaving. Thanks!

I actually used a diluted form of apple cider vinegar that helped quite a bit on the KP on my upper arms!! I applied it with a cottom ball and left it for a few minutes and then put cerave moisturizer on top to keep my skin from drying :)

  • @jasminem3902
    @jasminem3902 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I've had KP since I can remember. Only over the last month have I gotten serious about trying to improve my skin because I have it on my legs , arms, and it also appears to be signs of it on my stomach. Non of it itches for me. It's just an eye sore. I've been working on it for about a month and omg 😱 my skin feels sooooo much better. I'm even a little excited for my man to touch my legs now ...before I really didn't want him to.
Some of what I do goes against Dr. Vs recommendations
BUT This is what I personally am doing and will adjust if necessary.
    - I use cerave salicylic acid bar soap ( it does have physical exfoliants) if you decide to put the bar directly on the skin . I wash with this about twice a week . ( There's a liquid version of the S.A. soap as well but I haven't tried that one). The other days I used cerave moisturizing bar soap as to not dry out my skin.
    - I mosturize EVERYDAY with CeraVe moisturizer that's in the tub ...applying to damp skin. I often seal that in with a little jojoba oil ...
Plus I also like a little shine on my dark skin.
-Most recently I've decided to add Amlactin cream moisturizer in the tub to my routine. (The one with 15% lactic acid) . Which is a leave on moisturizing exfoliant.
I've been using that 2-3 times a week. Heads up this stuff can kinda stink ...but the reviews justified me trying it ...so the verdict is still out on this one. But so far it hasn't irritated my skin.
Lastly I have STOPPED shaving my legs and have gone completely to cream hair removers because I've found that shaving only irritated and knicked my KP making it waaaaay worse.
So far these things have made an incredible difference! My skin feels soooo smooth . Still needs work but I swear it's like night and day .
You can still see the little dots and what not but you definitely can not really feel them much any more.
Good luck with your skin journey beautiful people 💖
And thanks Dr. V for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us.

Using 'cling wrap' on my arms after a thick layer of cerave SA overnight has helped my KP drastically. Lazy to create a YT video. But want to help people who have suffered with KP like me. Asian-Indian, female, 30s, light brown dry sensitive skin, lives in a city with low humidity. This is what I do:
Step 1: Wash with Cerave SA wash.
Step 2: The ordinary lactic acid 10% + HA
    Step 3: Inkey list BHA
Step 4: Cerave SA cream (thick layer)
Step 5: E45 cream (pat over) as I find Cerave SA cream isn't moisturising enough for my skin
Step 6: Wrap arm in cling film
Step 7: Use humidifier (I don't often as I'm lazy)
Took around 3 weeks to see good results.
    Hope this helps.

I am in my late 30's and I have had this condition for 25 years. I find it interesting that it is supposed to get better with age because it keeps getting worse for me. I only had it on my arms as a teen. Now, I have it on my thighs, all over my legs and now half of my back is covered in it too. Over the years, I have tried numerous diets and even done some elimination diet for possible intolerances. Never taken long showers. I don't use strong exfoliators or fragrances. I live a healthy lifestyle of dietary choices and I have always avoided bad and harmful habits so I have no idea how it got so bad. I'm not aware of any relative having it. I have suffered with this for years and over the last 2 years it has considerably been reduced to the point where I am comfortable showing my arms again. What has worked for me is using organic neem soap as it is antibacterial, also I do use a green south korean cloth which takes away a lot of dead skin, similar to ones you use in a turkish bath. I moisturise with childs farm lotion. My skin is so soft and has made a dramatic difference.

I was about to say the same.. Korean green dead skin cell removing cloth is a life saver. I use it once/ twice a week and apply aloe vera gel everyday. My skin has never looked better. Take it from someone who has suffered years of kp. No more strawberry arms.

I have been using Ameliorate's Smoothing Body Exfoliant for about a year or so, and removing my body hair with laser treatments and my skin is getting smoother and smoother over time as long as I do both at the needed time. I really recommend trying this exfoliator. It is very gentle and you just put it on dry skin and wash after about 5 minutes. In the beginning I needed to do my whole arms and legs about 2-3 times a week. Now I use it 1-2 times a week, and only where the skin is still bumpy, mostly on a part of my arm and behind my thighs. Love it.

Thank you so much for doing this video on Keratosis Polaris. I actually did put a comment up I think yday about my skin concerns and I think you have given the correct name for it, I’m in my mid-30’s never had to deal with any skin concerns in my teenage or in my 20’s it’s all happening now. 😂 it looks like blackheads / or tiny hair coming through and the skin around it is green, I’m so worried because I don’t want to use the wrong thing and make it worse.

Now I also have fibromyalgia so am extra sensitive. I have to use a hair mitt to get rid of hair and the dry skin. I use a homemade scrub with coconut oil, lemon, honey and sugar in the shower. The only body cream that has ever been suitable is jergens ultra healing to which I sometimes add drops of vitamin e oil.

My son is going through puberty and I believe he has Keratosis pilaris on his nose and cheeks. He has acne prone skin and last summer had a bad bout of acne. I use CeraVe normal to oily skin was and rotate 5% benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid washes with a day of rest in between. I follow up by using the Elf Gel moisturizer (purple jar)after each wash. When he stays on top of it, this regimen goes a long way to smooth the keratosis pilaris on his nose and cheeks.

I was informed that this is caused by a genetic skin condition or when your hair hair follicles become blocked by a build-up of Keratin. I did some research on it after my doctor informed me that it’s what I have found out. I would advise everyone to get diagnosed with it and not assume it’s what they have. This is because you have other skin conditions which look similar to it.

This is so helpful! I've received the diagnosis for KP finally this year and a dermat referred chemical peels as a general recommendation. Although it's taken me years to become accepting of how my skin appears, the chemical peel treatment did seem very promising. However, I'm going to follow your suggestion and avoid chemical peels (it'll save me lots of money). Could you recommend body washes/facewash for KP from the Indian market which is student friendly?
