    Hey Ben, been watching a lot of your videos because I'm developing a Corvair obsession. Also noticed you live nearby. If you're ever going to a Cars & Coffe or meetup or anything, let us know. I'd love to hear more about your experience getting this thing roadworthy.

      Been neglecting the channel lately, been really busy working on 2 Corvair's! I'll try to upload sometime soon. But my corvair is not currently drivable.

    Hi Ben, That square plug is actually the level check & fill plug for the differential.
    and I believe that take gear oil 80-90 weight.Drain plug another square cube near the bottom of the case. It's been awhile. Only way to drain transmission is by dropping the pan which you have already done.
    Only a couple things normally that produce heavy white smoke out the tailpipe 1) head gasket leaking coolant into the combustion chamber. 2) Automatic transmission being suck up into the intake system via a bad vacuum modulator. At 11: 52 the modulator hose appeared to be sucked in and made a hole in the rubber hose. If you replace that little piece of hose and the smoke returns you have a bad new vacuum modulator. The diaphragm has ruptured and suck auto trans fluid. Quick check to preform is to pull the rubber hose off at the vacuum modulator. If even the smallest amount of transmission is present you have defective part.
    Sorry for the long post.
    Glad your having fun and enjoying the looks. Mine were always fun to dive. Terrible under rated cars that seem to be coming into their own again'

    Well, I'd figured I would let you know I added another Corvair to my collection! A 64 Monza 4 door 110hp automatic with factory air! So now I may face some auto trans issues. It has 46500 miles though & has been babied so we shall see. If you have a way I can share pictures please let me know!

    Nicely done. Old pcv pipe was nothing but a huge vacuum leak. I've had early and late model coupes and convertibles in my younger years and now I want an early 4dr. I am on the hunt. I live 2hrs north of Seattle or can point a gal in the right direction of an active Corvair group. I check back here to see if I missed anything from time to time. Melanie

    Yikes!!! You now need to take that PCV valve out, and just run a hose from the balance tube to the new vent tube! That tiny hole you showed at 2:19 is actually a metered orifice. They don't use PCV valves. Otherwise, nice car!!!

    Sounds good I've always have done mine cold way easier & that was in the book how keep your Corvair alive & I've done a 350 V8 that way & a inline 4 never had any issues & that looked liked the differential fill plug &It might have been from the valve adjustment where you got a little oil on the exhaust manifold? Any way I'm happy for You getting it legal & that You can start having some fun with her & enjoy her &thanks for the video BB

    I think I mentioned in one of your video how that home carpet pad was a very bad idea and I guess you found that out the hard way and floor pans starting to rust again. Young people sometimes have to learn the hard way. But have fun anyway!

      I really appreciate that man, honestly I've just been working more which I don't like, phone is old so I have no storage to film and edit, time has also been scarce. But I plan on making changes soon. Corvair currently has Rear suspension fully rebuild and needs transmission rebuilt.

    I’m concerned that there is not much oil being circulated around your rocker arms, should be very messy running without the valve covers.

    • @benbencorvair9071
      @benbencorvair9071  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it was very messy, might have been hard to see on camera with it sped up, lost about 2 quarts of oil.

    Going to register my ‘63 next week. What do you use to block off the port on the left carb (the one used on the right carb that goes to the vacuum advance)? Thanks Ben!

      My apologies for such a late reply. It should have a little vacuume port cap on.
