There are two thermal performance values to look at when selecting windows & doors, U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient! Different markets have different threshold requirements and the Phoenix area, for example, require a 0.40 or lower U-factor AND a 0.25 or lower SHGC. Kristen's average values for her windows & doors are below! As long as you’re working with a reputable window supplier they will take these requirements into account when helping you select a window type & glazing options (e.g., dual vs triple glaze, argon fill, low-e coatings, etc.) Average window values - 0.31 U-factor - 0.21 SHGC Average door values - 0.30 U-factor - 0.15 SHGC SHGC is the more important number where your energy load is primarily cooling the home and U-factor is more important where the energy load is primarily heating the home. If you live in an area where there’s an even mix, you’ll see a balanced requirement between the two!

You mention your windows are Sierra Pacific Urban Casement but most of your windows are picture windows. What is the model of the picture windows? Are they the Sierra Pacific Direct Set/Glaze model?
We too used Sierra Pacific…they are such a quality product. Worth any wait time! I will say, after watching this video and hearing your advice, I may have done things a little differently. Great tips!
These windows truly are, hands down, THE best. I prefer them over all other makers of wood clad, even steel windows. There are fiberglass options that will allow similar appearance proportions etc. and are more budget friendly but windows are a big deal. Once you've examined these up close it's hard to settle for less. Windows & flooring; top two items to not cheap out on. Awesome video Kristen!

Your house is coming out so beautifully! I can’t wait for our custom home to be finished. We decided on all black Anderson doors and sliders, and went with black Marvin windows. I had to show my husband your video to back me up that we’re on the right track lol. He thought I was going with too many large windows or windows in general, and I keep reminding him it’s not a tract home! Lol. He also thinks the restrooms should all look the same. I’ll definitely be controlling the interior design elements lol. Thank you for such amazing videos! Please let us know the white paint color you chose for your walls 😍.
