played this in 2007, this is pretty much close to the end of arcade releases for Neo Geo having been launched in 2001, my local arcades died out around 2011, all the arcade machines now are ticket/prize games with a few classics sprinkled in.
I imagine that would be due to the general lack of motivation and morale felt by SNK employees around the time this game was made. SNK filed for bankruptcy shortly before the release of this game. How inspired can you be to make a great game with something like that hanging over your head?
I wonder if that lack of inspiration has anything to do with the fact that you can't change into different characters that had different fighting styles and abilities like in the first two installments. This is just a regular beat em up game.
i had this opne and played it to the end. the ending, damn. It's a decent game, it playes golden tough. But it most certainly lack something that could have given it that special sauce it needed.
Sengoku along with World héroes is the forgotten, underrated series from SNK. I mean, there isn't a team representing this games in KOF. I wonder why?...
I get what you mean the atmosphere of the 1st and 2nd game is quite phenomenal, the third one while it has a better gameplay doesn't capture much the essence of the previous games of the series and that makes me really disappointed.

Hmm, and I though this was the best one in the series by far. That being even if it seemed to drag on for a bit too long at the same time though.

If they could incorporate the same combat system of this into SOR 4 that would be beast.
Try Fight 'N Rage. It's marketed as a FF/SoR tribute, but it's really a Sengoku 3 tribute above all.

An entertaining, yet demanding game. You need to learn your moves and combos. Always played as Kurenai. It can be frustrating at times, though.
