The reason I like Tower of Fantasy over other open world gatcha are for two simple reasons. The sci fi setting and the customisable mc. The Gesthos Network is aesthetically one of my favourite locations in not just the gatcha genre, but open world games in general, and I love playing a personalised character. I am a free player so the struggle is real, but I see it lasting until NtE and Ananta/Mugen release.
Why I never spend on HSR anymore. Rampant power creep makes the stuff I get for my money not feel worth it when it's getting power crept in half a year anyway while in Genshin the units last for years. Hope WuWa follows same trajectory as Genshin and don't do too nasty a power creep but given Kuro's previous game was PGR with a nasty power creep, I'm skeptical.
@@zealgaming8161 one of the many downside in Genshin are the artifacts where it can take up to MONTHS if not years to get the best artifact set for your characters.
ToF feels like a game that if given more polish and budget, given to a dev team and publisher that are competent, and given a reasonable balancing team that could be decent.
Well too bad im already behind in latest content and will always be behind, i only play for story and some exploration, gacha system is so worse that i actually dont like it at all, exploration wise its alright its not that bad, some places are good for taking screenshots, story is mediocre at least not too bad not like very enjoyable. Auto exploring feature is good tho. The only good memory I have of this game is when I farmed the Horse vehicle parts with the people on the server. Even that was boring but talking to them while farming was fun.
Day one player here, behind on current content bc i used to travel for work Currently 100% every map for all its treasures and rn am doing Innars Most of what you stated is quite on point, and im glad you mentioned that the time gated treasure chest are gone. I dont remember any areas being level gated the thats prolly bc i hit level 100 b4 leaving aesperia, by collecting all of the treasures. I wish they would increase the level cap bc fighting monsters in the overworld is quite worthless. And the MMO aspect sucks when there arent any players in the same or past worlds as you. The story isnt that amazing admitedly, but the music imo is quite peak, My major problem with the combat is that the monsters spawn in a weird way and will fully heal themselves if they go back to that spawn point. this is most noteable in Innars where all of the fights are against underwater sea creatures that move around the map, making it hard to kill them and when they finish they travel cycle, they fully heal if you didnt kill them in time. I know this is a me problem, but another thing is one of the overworld challenges is killing a number of enemies in a limited amount of time. Not my favorite, especially when my gear is as strong as I can make it on my own (completely free to play btw) i dont have all of the most OP units but i do love the one I got, I saved hard for Roselyn. The game is janky and could use a face lift, not that I think that will happen. Thanks for the honest review! Gonna keep playing and very excited for Arknights Endfield and Azur Lane Promelia!

I would say very fair and on point. I would say that with what was shown for 4.6 and leaked of the gameplay and area, along with the release gameplay of Voidpiercer, and the trailer for 5.0 I think they are starting to change a little bit and want to start caring about their game (I wish the powercreep was the main focus). It's a little bit of cope but with what was shown it also looks promising. I would check out 4.6, voidpiercer, and 5.0!

I played ToF for about 6 months at launch and this really resonates. The game had some interesting ideas with the combat system and movement mechanics, but the aggressive powercreep and monetization just kept getting worse. The open world feels empty compared to similar games, and it's really hard to recommend to new players now. Such a shame because there was potential there at the beginning.
Agree with everything you said. The combat system was genuinely fun at first - especially the aerial combos and grappling hook mechanics. But man, the powercreep was just brutal. Every new banner basically made your previous characters feel like wet noodles, forcing you to either whale or fall behind. And that empty open world... it's crazy how they had this massive map but nothing meaningful to do in it. Just copy-pasted content and time-gated resources everywhere. After seeing how Hotta handled ToF, there's no way I'm touching NTE (Neverness to Everness). It's probably going to be the same cash grab slop with fancy marketing. Hotta has completely lost my trust as a developer.
you could do a review about reverse 1999 maybe in the future. it's still kind of new i believe and not too bad (from my perspective) but very different from the usual.
hey so i agree with most of what you said in the video but i'd like to correct one thing which is that ToF does have a guarantee system for limited characters besides flame gold. if you pull 2 standard characters in a row you are guaranteed to get a limited character and vice versa this does not reset between banners.
Wait, what? Like one of the CURRENT limited banner characters? Because I did over 400? 500? standard pulls and got no limited banner characters at all.
@@StixPlayx yeah so if you pull on the limited banner you are guaranteed to get the rate up character after getting 2 standard charcters in a row (losing two 50/50s) and vice versa however there is no guarantee with the standard banner and there is no way to get limited characters if you pull on the standard banner until they are added to standard
I understand why the original launch was rough - they were under the gun and had a hard release date. It was launch, or cancel the game. So of course it was buggy and needed work. But it was telling that many of the issues were still not resolved when it hit global. ToF had so much potential, but the devs never knew how to reach that potential. I think they reached too far, they tried for too much. They really needed to release something small to gain experience. I really REALLY hope they learned and NTE goes smoother.
I'm hoping they learned from their mistakes with ToF and NTE turns out to be a banger of a game! I had fun in the Beta, and with some improvements, it could be a really fun experience!

For me, it's not the best game, but it creates a lot of attachment. Even though I’ve quit many times, I always end up missing it and coming back, unlike other games that I forget once I stop playing. However, the main issue with this game is the power creep, which makes a lot of players feel bad. While it does have the benefit of letting new players catch up, I think it would be better if they added a system to upgrade older characters so they can become usable again.
I recently downloaded the game again for that new male character, took me HOURS to even get 30 pulls. I actually had a little fun but you can tell how unpolished it is, and the story is a big mess. having to grind as a new player is not a nice experience either. got bored and deleted it lmao

I play this game since release and A LOT has changed since then. The real reason why i Play it is the costumisation and the way how this game plays. I dont know any other gacha game that has all this. If you ignore the leaderboards then you can have a lot of fun. No one cares how good you are or how new you are just play how you want. The endless challange mode and the idea of getting better and better with a online world that is dynamically shared with others in real time is priceless. I dont like genshin i dont like other gacha games like genshin because they are simply to easy or just boring and playing with others is not really well made. Tof has its strengh and since 1 year they fully uses them and are trying to make tof to that what it should have been. Its obv stil not perfect because hotta was in the genshin killer move but since they stopped, the game goes in the right direction. There are so many other aspects that are ahead of other gacha games but that would be way to long to explain about the gacha system and daily play force (that nearly does not exist). Basically The way how the Game gives you full controll over what you can do is the best. And thats lacking in most gacha games
Actually tof is more newbie friendly than wuwa and genshin. New players can pull for the new banner, unlike genshin and wuwa you need to do so much story just to unlock upgrade mats for the latest character. You can easily 6 star a new character even if you are new and f2p in tof.

I think the only thing Genshin did poorly was their coop side of things. If you and a friend play together and you both have the same quest it should complete for both of you. It should've been a true coop, not just something you use to help a lower level friend.
ToF got hella money out of me. I'm finally at the point where I could help newcomers with the Master-Student program but this game can't keep those newcomers cause the beginning is SO BAD. I'm not playing it much these days cause I'm broke af now, the novelty of this game being my dothack replacement has worn off and the story, what bit of plot it has seems to just go in a circle. I like the lore of ToF but the overall story and the lack of consistent quality in cut scenes and if the scene has voice acting or not KILLS ME 7/10 it's a Dynasty Warriors game with anime waifus, I had fun
In tof the pity doesn't reset, while in wuwa or genshin the pity reset when ever you got a 5* character. Tof has really player friendly gotcha system compared to genshin or wuwa. Stix is miss understanding the gotcha system in TOF. I remember Stix knows this... I think Stix just forgot how the gotcha system works in tof. Also TOF give you so much premium currency for free compared to wuwa or genshin.
I did forget to mention it, yeah! That was my bad. They do give you a lot of free pulls as well which is great, but the power creep present makes those pulls necessary unfortunately.

Oh ToF... I really wanted this one to hit its stride one day, it's such a weird blend of legitimately inspired moments and ideas - like avatar customization, or the opening setpiece for their Evangelion crossover - and weirdly terrible decisions. It reminded me of an obscure PS2 game right down to the janky, poorly acted cutscenes.
I find that as long as you have a few semi active people to play with and don't grind heavy its way better then even star rail long term. Star rail is great at first then dead boring. You can play completely f2p and beat all content sure you will do roughly half as much damage as someone who spent 5,000 but who cares. People who fail at being good f2p are just bad at resource management and common sense.
The whole game feels like and ADHD fever dream. Something is always happening, popping, absurd animations are on the screen and so on. I've been playing it for three month during the spring of 2023 and initually dropped it because of two (and a half) things: powercreep and lack of progression. I was grinding nonstop but my fking 170 lvl weapons and endless equipment was made to be not good enough to compare to the people who had bought the c6 characters. The powercreep is atrocious. C0 Fiona became better that C6 Lin on the first day of release, and the average lifespan of a char is 3 month, not any longer. And a "half" thing for me was the fact that as a girl I feel like I was not acknowleged as a player at all. I mostly play as female characters bc I just like them better, but the whole design code (especially in 2024 lol) is just obviously targeted towards men. That would have not been a problem if we didn't get a huge genshin impact (like i mean literal impact 😭) during the release. There were many male characters and the designs were more... modest, i'd say. And as for now, these are the 2 main problems for me: the powercreep and the design. Like I'm sorry but 95% of the new characters are just booba girls in mecha swimsuits and I can't tell them apart. I'm ok with the fanservice but not when it just randomly starts out of nowhere and has zero personality. I even like some of the Nikke girls that have much bigger booba aspect that this just cause they have some real character design ideas.
LMAO I know how you feel. "Oh, another big booba white haired girl in 0 clothing, cool." It almost feels like they use the same base model for characters because they're all so similar these days.

Yup. And it’s only gotten worse. Every week there are new threads that pop up regarding the powercreep but the devs just don’t care. Whales continue to spend money on it because they want to remain relevant.
I think ToF is a jack of all trades (master of none) so there is something for everyone: mmo fans, gacha fans, anime fans, sci fi fans, eastern fantasy fans, mecha fans, casual players, meta players, cultured players, waifu collectors, oc creators. Features other players only dream of for their game, most likely it's in ToF. This is what probably makes ToF survive. Personally, I like the surprise features and areas they come up with even if it looks like "all over the place" for others
I had a lot of fun in its early days, i had a maxed out samir and was dominating in my group. The power creep is MASSIVE to the point where it's unfair. The game now actively tries to milk money out of you every second (still not as bad as one punch man and devil may cry). I'm sad that it became like this after i stopped because of work and stuff, i was hoping to go back to it with my friends but now... I really don't feel bad of leaving it. I'm gonna miss my samir build but all things must come to an end i guess...
@@StixPlayx gacha games should focus on balancing instead of power creeping their stuff. In genshin it doesn't matter because you can literally use any unit and solo everything, it's that easy. If a game includes even a little bit of pvp content then they 100% not powercreep and focus on balancing.
They could make ToF be one of the first GTA gacha but it's just a big empty lifeless open world. I'll give it a fair 6/10. I like Shirley and Zeke story and ToFs soundtrack tho.

This game had a worst gacha system of all other gacha games. I just immediately quit after saving 1.5 years gacha material and got rate off 4 times . FOUR FCKING TIMES . Like what the f ..? and one more thing they slightly changes the character design without telling the player ... I mean if we gacha the character if its not for the meta its will be for the design .Its a bit rude to change design what s u like and u already got it , without telling the player... at least look at Genshin they change character design, telling us and still give an option to choose the older design. And the specification note is all lie...my device is above the recommendation spec , but still had a crash, frame drop even in lowest graphic setting. They said will keep this game up to ten years .But u know the developer is Net- they famous for closing their own game, even that game still had some amount player online. So i think there s no point to keep hoping they do something better in the future 😅. But its up to you if u still want to play it. Sometime u need experience to understand why ill warn you right now.

I'll definitely take a look at them! Unfortunately it's unlikely they'll ever improve the powercreep. It's what keeps the whales whaling.

I dont like genshin i dont like other gacha games like genshin because they are simply to easy or just boring and playing with others is not really well made. Tof has its strengh and since 1 year they fully uses them and are trying to make tof to that what it should have been. Its obv stil not perfect because hotta was in the genshin killer move but since they stopped, the game goes in the right direction. There are so many other aspects that are ahead of other gacha games but that would be way to long to explain about the gacha system and daily play force (that nearly does not exist). Basically The way how the Game gives you full controll over what you can do is the best. And thats lacking in most gacha games
Actually tof is more newbie friendly than wuwa and genshin. New players can pull for the new banner, unlike genshin and wuwa you need to do so much story just to unlock upgrade mats for the latest character. You can easily 6 star a new character even if you are new and f2p in tof.
None of them are friendly for new players honestly, including ToF.
Agree 100%. I did nothing and got to level 62 and 98 pulls. I experimented on my alt account. Auto exploration is insane!

I think the only thing Genshin did poorly was their coop side of things. If you and a friend play together and you both have the same quest it should complete for both of you. It should've been a true coop, not just something you use to help a lower level friend.

ToF got hella money out of me. I'm finally at the point where I could help newcomers with the Master-Student program but this game can't keep those newcomers cause the beginning is SO BAD. I'm not playing it much these days cause I'm broke af now, the novelty of this game being my dothack replacement has worn off and the story, what bit of plot it has seems to just go in a circle. I like the lore of ToF but the overall story and the lack of consistent quality in cut scenes and if the scene has voice acting or not KILLS ME

In tof the pity doesn't reset, while in wuwa or genshin the pity reset when ever you got a 5* character. Tof has really player friendly gotcha system compared to genshin or wuwa.
Stix is miss understanding the gotcha system in TOF.
I remember Stix knows this... I think Stix just forgot how the gotcha system works in tof.
Also TOF give you so much premium currency for free compared to wuwa or genshin.
I did forget to mention it, yeah! That was my bad. They do give you a lot of free pulls as well which is great, but the power creep present makes those pulls necessary unfortunately.

Oh ToF... I really wanted this one to hit its stride one day, it's such a weird blend of legitimately inspired moments and ideas - like avatar customization, or the opening setpiece for their Evangelion crossover - and weirdly terrible decisions. It reminded me of an obscure PS2 game right down to the janky, poorly acted cutscenes.

I find that as long as you have a few semi active people to play with and don't grind heavy its way better then even star rail long term. Star rail is great at first then dead boring.
You can play completely f2p and beat all content sure you will do roughly half as much damage as someone who spent 5,000 but who cares. People who fail at being good f2p are just bad at resource management and common sense.

Yup definitely. It looks great on the surface but it’s just lacking depth.
The whole game feels like and ADHD fever dream. Something is always happening, popping, absurd animations are on the screen and so on. I've been playing it for three month during the spring of 2023 and initually dropped it because of two (and a half) things: powercreep and lack of progression. I was grinding nonstop but my fking 170 lvl weapons and endless equipment was made to be not good enough to compare to the people who had bought the c6 characters. The powercreep is atrocious. C0 Fiona became better that C6 Lin on the first day of release, and the average lifespan of a char is 3 month, not any longer. And a "half" thing for me was the fact that as a girl I feel like I was not acknowleged as a player at all. I mostly play as female characters bc I just like them better, but the whole design code (especially in 2024 lol) is just obviously targeted towards men. That would have not been a problem if we didn't get a huge genshin impact (like i mean literal impact 😭) during the release. There were many male characters and the designs were more... modest, i'd say. And as for now, these are the 2 main problems for me: the powercreep and the design. Like I'm sorry but 95% of the new characters are just booba girls in mecha swimsuits and I can't tell them apart. I'm ok with the fanservice but not when it just randomly starts out of nowhere and has zero personality. I even like some of the Nikke girls that have much bigger booba aspect that this just cause they have some real character design ideas.

Man, I remember being so hyped for ToF when it launched as the 'Genshin killer' but it really went downhill fast. The power creep is insane now - my old maxed characters feel completely useless compared to the new ones. At least the combat system was fun while it lasted, but I can't justify spending money just to keep up anymore. Dropped it after 4 months and sounds like I made the right call.
Yup. And it’s only gotten worse. Every week there are new threads that pop up regarding the powercreep but the devs just don’t care. Whales continue to spend money on it because they want to remain relevant.

I think ToF is a jack of all trades (master of none) so there is something for everyone: mmo fans, gacha fans, anime fans, sci fi fans, eastern fantasy fans, mecha fans, casual players, meta players, cultured players, waifu collectors, oc creators. Features other players only dream of for their game, most likely it's in ToF. This is what probably makes ToF survive. Personally, I like the surprise features and areas they come up with even if it looks like "all over the place" for others
Tof is truely Something Else and IT makes fun to Play because IT does so many Things that other Games dont do

I had a lot of fun in its early days, i had a maxed out samir and was dominating in my group. The power creep is MASSIVE to the point where it's unfair. The game now actively tries to milk money out of you every second (still not as bad as one punch man and devil may cry). I'm sad that it became like this after i stopped because of work and stuff, i was hoping to go back to it with my friends but now... I really don't feel bad of leaving it. I'm gonna miss my samir build but all things must come to an end i guess...
If it makes you feel any better tof devs hate volt so whatever gear you had for volt is worthless compared to if you just played frost
DMC Peak of Combat is an abomination of a game, but yeah, powercreep is a hard negative that should dissuade absolutely anyone from playing, sadly.

@@StixPlayx gacha games should focus on balancing instead of power creeping their stuff. In genshin it doesn't matter because you can literally use any unit and solo everything, it's that easy. If a game includes even a little bit of pvp content then they 100% not powercreep and focus on balancing.
They could make ToF be one of the first GTA gacha but it's just a big empty lifeless open world. I'll give it a fair 6/10.
I like Shirley and Zeke story and ToFs soundtrack tho.

This game had a worst gacha system of all other gacha games. I just immediately quit after saving 1.5 years gacha material and got rate off 4 times . FOUR FCKING TIMES . Like what the f ..?
and one more thing they slightly changes the character design without telling the player ... I mean if we gacha the character if its not for the meta its will be for the design .Its a bit rude to change design what s u like and u already got it , without telling the player... at least look at Genshin they change character design, telling us and still give an option to choose the older design. And the specification note is all lie...my device is above the recommendation spec , but still had a crash, frame drop even in lowest graphic setting. They said will keep this game up to ten years .But u know the developer is Net- they famous for closing their own game, even that game still had some amount player online. So i think there s no point to keep hoping they do something better in the future 😅. But its up to you if u still want to play it. Sometime u need experience to understand why ill warn you right now.
