Ed's gleeful face when he finally shuts Erin up with the $2M check and his *"Cuz you SUCK at it!!"* line at the end is one of my favorite scenes in movie history 😂😂😂 He was SO HAPPY he outsmartassed her!!
Erin was in town here locally to help an environmental lawyer get some pollution problem on people’s radar. She’s still fighting the good fight! About this portrayal she said Julia got her “so right.”
The real Erin Brockovich actually investigated the Flint, MI water crisis too! She came to The Late Show with Steven Colbert to give a talk on it -> you can find it youtube.
Recent events have proven again that the "justice" system and political class protect and defend the wealthy at the cost of the populace. The entire legal system is designed to keep you under control by punishing you for the smallest infraction, while allowing the political donors to murder with impunity as long as they show a profit. They will never serve the interests of the people until the corruption of corporate money in politics and law is stamped out.
ED MCMAHON was the celeb who hosted “publishers clearing house” sweepstakes around the US. Basically he’d arrive on your doorstep with a camera crew and give people money and prizes. It was like a legit “Mr beast” before TH-cam.
I feel like a lot of Americans don’t get the British humor and slang with this one though. It’s probably my favorite Julia film but I never recommend it for that reason. Even myself personally, I like it more and more with every watch because I discover new funny things with the situations and dialogue especially among Will (Hugh Grant’s) family and friends.
Back then there were no cell phones. We had no choice but to remember the numbers of anyone we wanted to contact. We had a greater capacity to remember those type things before the internet was big.
PG & E is the largest supplier of energy in California. You probably heard about them in the past several years when California had those terrible fires and PG & E needed to shut down the electrical grid in various areas because some of the electrical wires were sparking fires. So there were rolling blackouts. Also, Ed is played by Albert Finney, one of the greatest English actors from the 60s and 70s. His most famous role was in “Tom Jones”, but also was in The Dresser, Millers Crossing, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Skyfall-the James Bond movie with Daniel Craig. He was married to Anouk Aimee, a French actress who became world famous for the French movie, “A Man and a Woman.” He passed away a number of years ago in England.
I first saw this movie as a young girl and rewatch it at least once a year. This story was one of my inspirations to do something important with my life, something that helps people. I don't have the temperament for the legal field like Erin does, but I'm almost finished with my social work degree and I'm politically active. I'm going to work my ass off to help people who are being fucked over by various systems of oppression in our society
Just a comment on the phone number scene- I remember when people had phone numbers memorized- it was way more common than now because now you dont need to remember. 600 numbers is unquestionably a huge number, but rather than eidetic memory, I always took this scene's purpose was to illustrate just how many times she has called families to check in with them and how many hours she had put into the case. Rather than a photographic memory, I think it was more a testament to how much she cared about the people involved in the case.
This movie is so witty and funny. The comic chemistry between Julia Roberts and Albert FINNEY is EVERYTHING P.S. Despite all the acclaim and the eyes on this issue, the real life situation was featured in a recent report and it’s not exactly a happy ending.
This is one of those movies I come back to time and time again. I’m a paralegal and my favorite part has always been meeting with the clients, talking to them and walking them through the process, working together to put the case together. This film really resonated with me personally and I love the little cameo that the real Erin Brokovich had in the film. I don’t know if anyone has already said this but in the beginning of the film when Erin takes her kids to eat after she loses her personal injury case, the waitress taking their order is the real Erin Brokovich.
This is such a good movie!! I've seen it more times than I can recall, but I'm always riveted. There's no denying that Julia Roberts gave an outstanding performance, but Albert Finney (Ed), Aaron Eckhart (George), and Marg Helgenberger (Donna) also deserve praise and recognition. They were all so great in their roles.
Flint Water Crisis… Oct 2014: DEQ tells Governor about water issues Oct 2014: Flint’s manager appointment by Governor says it’s too expensive to switch water source Jan 2015: Governor staff told of Legionnaires outbreak & potential link to water July 2015: Internal EPA memo leaked discussing systemic lead concerns but Governor’s DEQ Director tells Flint residents to “relax” Aug 2015: DEQ Director announces that the water is “safe” Jan 2016: Governor FINALLY tells the public the water is NOT safe. …. No convictions. 39 charges files against 9 defendants - all ultimately dropped. I loathe them.
there is just something about julia roberts that is just so comforting to watch for me. probably because i grew up and watched her movies relentlessly. but, still. shes amazing. i consider one of my favorite "safe" actresses. even if the movie isnt the greatest, ill still watch it and probably like it because shes in it. some julia roberts movies to look into possibly: Hook, Runaway Bride, Sleeping With the Enemy, Closer, Mystic Pizza, Notting Hill, Stepmom, Steel Magnolias, My Best Friends Wedding..i mean the list goes on..
Ed McMahon is old school. Was the sidekick to Johnny Carson, long-time host of the Tonight Show. He used to arrive to people’s homes with a big sweepstakes award check.
@@tsefcikhe also hosted a talent show Star Search. Kind of like American Idol before American Idol. So many celebrities had an appearance, including Alanis Morrissette.
I live in northern California where a firestorm caused by faulty PG&E equipment destroyed 5000 homes and businesses, and we still are paying high rates for our utilities. Not the most responsible of corporations out there. On another note, another great Julia Roberts film is "Notting Hill".
I remember watching this movie in school because this case was similar to the ground water contamination that happened in Love Canal, which is literally about a mile from where I live.
27:10 Enter the greatest living stage actress of the 20th century. Cherry Jones is perfect in every role she has played. If you know anything about theater and Broadway, Jones is a legend.
Yes PG&E is still in business. They have a monopoly where if you live in certain areas you have to get your electricity or gas from them, it's the only option. I have them for gas but my electric is thru the city. PG&E recently got sued for fires caused by issues related to power lines they didn't maintain but of course they just charge customer higher rates now in order to avoid financial losses. We the customers pay for their mistakes.
I think you guys would really enjoy “My Best Friend’s Wedding” as next Julia film. It’s very funny and you will have fun recognizing all the actors in that movie, too.
Gotta watch The Pelican Brief with Julia and Denzel. Another great movie is Silkwood with Meryl Streep, Kurt Russell and Cher. Based on a true story related to safety concerns at a nuclear facility. 1983.
I was one of those who recommended this film. So glad you enjoyed it. For Julia Roberts it was the performance of her career. You may also like Julia in the movie "Ben is Back" staring Lucas Hedges.
It truly astonished me how many multi billionaire companies make choices just to cut corners when they can more than more than afford not to. Especially when the corners they're cutting hurt so many people. It happens every day, PG&E just got caught.
The real Erin Brockovich has a cameo in this movie. She plays the waitress at the restaurant when Erin takes her kids out to eat. After seeing the movie for the first time, the real Erin said that Julia Roberts could not have captured her better. Another movie you guys should watch is Steel Magnolias. Julia Roberts plus Sally Field, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, Shirley McClaine and - Dolly Parton!
You have to do Steel Magnolias. Julia Roberts is great in that but she’s part of an ensemble cast of wonderful actresses. She’s also in Sleeping with the Enemy and that’s an underrated gem.
I find Stepmom overlong, I don't know why. I can't imagine who much editing they had to do but it did drag 🫣. And after seeing the Ed Harris in The Abyss (and Truman Show tbh), he came across so timid in this movie like, how many lines did he even have? 😂😂
Pg&e is still a monopoly in CA for utilities, and they’re responsible for so many tragedies every year. People like Erin are heroes and should never be swayed by the tactics of truly evil corporations because they impact people’s lives in such profound ways. We stan Erin Brockovich!
Erin's foe, at the office, is the gray Conchatta Farrell, whom you know from Two & a Half Men. She was in everything for decades. She was also in Julia's breakout film, Mystic Pizza and, Julia brought her in specifically.
Love this movie. Julia is brilliant. I highly recommend Steel Magnolias (stellar cast alongside a very new Julia Roberts) and Sleeping With the Enemy is really good too, albeit a bit darker.
Erin's amazing. I contacted her a few years back about a concern I had heard about, and she not only responded but did something about it. Unfortunately, PG&E is still harming us out here in Cali. Lately it's been with wildfires, but I am sure there are loads of other things going on too. JULIA MOVIE RECS: Stepmom (1998), My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), Wonder (2017), Sleeping with the Enemy (1991).
I'm so glad you guys get to see and share your reactions on another great movie of Julia Roberts after seeing and enjoying her movie, Pretty Woman. She has some other good movies and if you have not seen them, here are some that I think worth seeing and will be nice to see your reactions as well. Steel Magnolias, Notting Hill, Dying Young, Sleeping with the Enemy, Something to talk about and Wonder. Always enjoy watching your reactions.
The "weird guy" was the late Tracey Walter. He was hilarious in "Repo Man" (1984), with a more expanded roll. It's a wild comedy, starring Harry Dean Stanton and Emilio Estevez. Great cast in an outrages film. Well worth reacting to. It doesn't disappoint!
Hey! I loved this movie and your reaction! You guys should react to Steel Magnolias. Its another movie with Julia Roberts. Its really good and funny too!
I saw this movie in the theater and to this day, it’s one of my favorites. It was the first movie I bought on DVD back when DVDs were a thing. Julia is in so many good movies - just a few recommendations are Sleeping With The Enemy, Steel Magnolias, Oceans 11, Notting Hill, Mystic Pizza, My Best Friend’s Wedding and Eat, Pray, Love
I loved the movie I Love Trouble (1994) with Nick Nolte growing up. Two competing Chicago newspaper reporters who join forces to unravel the mystery behind a train derailment.

In case you missed it, the waitress in the restaurant IS Erin Brockovich.
Ed's gleeful face when he finally shuts Erin up with the $2M check and his *"Cuz you SUCK at it!!"* line at the end is one of my favorite scenes in movie history 😂😂😂 He was SO HAPPY he outsmartassed her!!
He earned that victory after too many losses against Erin. Amazing scene.
The real Erin played a waitress at the dinner with the name tag As Julie, and in the same scene the real Ed can be seen as a customer in the back.
at 4:50
Ok i knew about the Erin one but the Ed got me so giddy lmao
The judge who denied the demurrer was also the real judge from the case!
She really did bring those PG&E lawyers water from Hinkley.
Erin was in town here locally to help an environmental lawyer get some pollution problem on people’s radar. She’s still fighting the good fight! About this portrayal she said Julia got her “so right.”
This is one of the great legal movies. No real court scenes, but a great true story. And stuff like this still happens…*ahem, Flint MI.
The real Erin Brockovich actually investigated the Flint, MI water crisis too! She came to The Late Show with Steven Colbert to give a talk on it -> you can find it youtube.
What's sad is that even though they won this trial, that amount of money is like a proverbial slap on the wrist for PG&E.
It’s still ungoing …I follow Erin…she’s still a wealth of information
The restaurant scene, the waitress is Erin…

I love this movie and she won the Oscar for this performance
She got flack from it because she didn’t thank the real Erin when she won the Oscar.
Steel Magnolias (1989) is another must-see Julia Roberts movie with a stellar ensemble cast 💖
Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley Maclaine, Olympia Dukakis, and Daryl Hannah killed it in this movie.
Oh for sure
ED MCMAHON was the celeb who hosted “publishers clearing house” sweepstakes around the US. Basically he’d arrive on your doorstep with a camera crew and give people money and prizes. It was like a legit “Mr beast” before TH-cam.
Glad to see this here. The name drop was a bit outdated and I knew this crew wouldn’t know who he was and why she said it 😂
Sleeping With the Enemy was a favorite of my mom's along with Steel Magnolias and The Pelican Brief with Denzel..
I second all of these. Fantastic movies.
All great!!
I’m with your mum on all of those!!
And Mystic Pizza is my fave. Anyone else too?
@JoC-l2h O, I forgot about that one! Yup, she owned even that treasure on VHS. She loved ANYTHING Jullia Roberts. I always forget about Mystic Pizza.
Julia with Hugh Grant in “Notting Hill”. A charming rom-com.
A top tier romcom for sure! If you like British humor you’ll enjoy this. Hugh Grant super self deprecating charm dialed way up.
Yes! A great feel good movie, and one of her best roles.
@@Sara01977same but these guys are very Brit oriented so I think we could be on to a winner with Notting Hill 😊
Erin Brockovich and The Pursuit of Happiness exemplify how it costs more money to be poor.
Once you're down, the system wants you to stay down. 💔
PG&E still exists
Pacific Gas & Electric. Main energy company in the west coast
Back then there were no cell phones. We had no choice but to remember the numbers of anyone we wanted to contact. We had a greater capacity to remember those type things before the internet was big.
Exactly right! As a teenager 20 years ago I could pull 20+ numbers from my mind in an instant. Now I can barely hold on to 3, lol.
"They're called ✨ boobs ✨ Ed" I still quote that all the time. Amazing movie! Still at the start so really excited for your reaction!!
Merry Christmas
Wow!! Thank you so much, that is very generous of you and very much appreciated! Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!

Albert Finney also portrayed Daddy Warbucks in the 1982 film Annie!
Steel Magnolias, Sleeping With The Enemy, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Stepmom, The Pelican Brief, Notting Hill, and many more.
Sleeping With The Enemy was so traumatising 😭😭🫣🫣🤣
My Best Friend's Wedding is THE Julia Roberts movie! Smart, funny and all the cast shines!

I also vote for Sleeping with the Enemy

Steel Magnolias for Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Sally Fields, Tom Skerrit, Shirley MacLaine, and more in a truly great movie.
Great movie!

"THE PELICAN BRIEF" Is another one with Julia's gr8 acting...a must watch. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hahaha one of my favourite reaction videos to date. Watching blue dude fight to stay awake 😂😂😂 you’re a crack up mate

Watch Steel Magnolias it’s one of Julia Robert’s best performances
Tear-jerker! 😢😢😢
I think you guys would really enjoy “My Best Friend’s Wedding” as next Julia film. It’s very funny and you will have fun recognizing all the actors in that movie, too.
+1 for 'Notting Hill' -- I'm not too big on rom-coms, but that's a damned good one.

20:29 Flint, Michigan is in the same situation. My parent’s friends in Ohio have severe disabilities bc the water was contaminated from factories

she good in My best friends wedding too. good movie you should watch comedy
Oh this is a CLASSIC 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
You all not knowing who Ed McMahon is makes me feel so old 😭
You’d love “ Mystic Pizza” with Julia !!!

My favorite movies of all time, in no particular order:
• Challengers
• Erin Brockovich
• 27 Dresses
• The Devil Wears Prada
Runaway Bride and Stepmom are two other movies of hers that are GREAT
I find Stepmom overlong, I don't know why. I can't imagine who much editing they had to do but it did drag 🫣. And after seeing the Ed Harris in The Abyss (and Truman Show tbh), he came across so timid in this movie like, how many lines did he even have? 😂😂

Julia Robert's movies: Sleeping with the Enemy, Conspiracy Theory, Pelican Brief, Flatliners

Yes to more Julia Roberts movies! ❤ My Best Friends Wedding, Notting Hill, Steel Magnolias and Sleeping with the Enemy are all great.
Steel magnolias! Julia Roberts is so good in it.
4:50..The real Erin B. is the server in the cafe, also,in that big town meeting, most of those people there are the original complainants.
I was going to comment the same thing 😅. I saw her talk live once, in London. Inspiring woman.
One of my all time favorite films. So glad y'all Reacted to and liked it.

Sleeping With the Enemy is a fantastic Julia Robert’s movie
Notting Hill is also a great Julia Roberts movie 😊 it’s very wholesome and very English

Hey! I loved this movie and your reaction! You guys should react to Steel Magnolias. Its another movie with Julia Roberts. Its really good and funny too!
I love this film. Top 5.
